It has been five years since Jay left the Philippines.
In those years, I buried myself in work—projects, missions, and endless meetings at the Watson Company. But no amount of achievement ever filled the empty space Jay left behind. Some nights, I still whisper into the quiet, I miss you, Jay. I love you until the very moment scientists find the end of the universe—until the stars stop burning.
"Sir, don't forget you have a meeting today at ten," Anna reminded me gently from the doorway.
"Yes, Anna. Please make breakfast for me and Keiren, okay?" I said, smiling faintly. It wasn't a real smile—just a habit I'd learned to wear like my suit.
I stood under the shower, letting the water hit my face. I couldn't tell where the water ended and my tears began. When I was done, I put on a black suit, slipped a matching mask into my pocket, and headed downstairs. I took a slice, barely tasting it, and stepped outside.
The driver and Keigan were already waiting in the car.
"Good morning, Kuya," Keigan said politely.
"Good morning," I answered flatly. My voice lacked life, like everything else lately.
As the engine started, Keigan glanced at me through the rear-view mirror. "Don't forget, you're meeting one of the most dangerous and powerful gangs today—the Night Shadows. Their leader, the Golden Sparrow, will be there in person."
"Yes, Keigan, I know," I replied as the car slowed to a stop. I pulled the black mask over my face, the familiar weight grounding me back into the role I now lived every day.
Behind me, Section E followed—my team, my family, my best friends . Ever since Jay left, we became more than just a group of friends. We became a gang—one forged by pain, purpose, and loyalty. C-in is now a pilot. Calix and Mica got married last spring. Edrix and Freya were engaged last summer, and Aries and Ella followed soon after. Even Grazel is now in her third year at school.
I wonder, sometimes, what Jay would think if they could see us now—how far we've come, how far I've fallen.
The car door opened. I took a breath, set my mask in place, and stepped out into the cold morning.
