BWDC:SDDK Chapter 6: Shinichi Kudo, Before Me, You Have No Secrets!

"A six-slot utility belt..."

A classic Batman-style belt appeared in Ren Ichimonji's hands out of thin air.

This was the mission reward.

He lifted the belt, and immediately, a panel of information surfaced before his eyes.

[Item Name: Batman's Six-Slot Utility Belt]

[Note 1: No one ever knows what Batman keeps in his utility belt, except for Batman himself.]

[Note 2: No one ever knows how much Batman's utility belt can hold, except for Batman himself.]

After staring at the storage belt for a moment, Ren Ichimonji decided that practice was the only way to find the truth.

He buckled the belt around his waist and fumbled for the hidden catch. With a click, the concealed compartments of the six-slot belt popped open.

Ren Ichimonji froze, feeling a twinge of disappointment.

Are you serious? Is this 'six-slot utility belt' literally just a belt with six small hidden pockets?

He tentatively pulled a lighter out of his pocket and moved it toward one of the slots.

...Nothing happened.

Ren Ichimonji frowned. Refusing to believe it was this mundane, he moved his coffee cup toward the compartment.

In the next instant, the coffee cup—which was far too large for the slot—vanished from his hand.

He looked closely.

Inside one of the six compartments of the utility belt, a miniature model of the coffee cup had appeared.

"Can it only store system items?"

Ren Ichimonji's eyebrows shot up.

He reached out and tapped the compartment again. A strange sensation surfaced in his mind; instinctively, he reached out, and that special cup of coffee reappeared in his hand as if it had never left, just as it had vanished moments ago.

--- It's a pity this thing can't store other items. Otherwise, it would have been perfect for hauling gear.

Tap, tap, tap.

The sound of footsteps echoed once more from the stairwell.

Ren Ichimonji glanced over, then took another sip of his coffee.

Then, he looked back at the stairs.

Wait... something feels wrong.

He looked at the Black Star pearl in his pocket, then glanced at the white hang glider folded neatly beside him. Finally, he looked down at his own clothes.

Suddenly, a thought screamed in Ren Ichimonji's mind.

Crap! I've become the body double!

Before he could process it further, the sound of wind tearing through the air erupted.

He saw it clearly.

An ordinary-looking soccer ball, trailing sparks and lightning, streaked from the direction of the stairs.

With the speed of a thunderbolt, the ball struck, and Kaito Kid's hang glider instantly disintegrated into [Item Shards].

The most bizarre part was that the soccer ball سپس hit the nearby railing at a mysterious angle and bounced back in a way that defied the laws of physics—

Actually, it didn't bounce back.

Because Ren Ichimonji was quick. He reached out and snatched it out of the air, catching it dead in its tracks.

He wasn't about to let that ball bounce back.

No joke—considering the "Superpowered Soccer Hero" currently seemed to be in a frenzy, the ball probably would have been kicked right back at his head the moment it returned!

He had already used his one minute of Batman status for the day.

Facing Conan's superpowered soccer ball, Kaito Kid might not become a legendary thief, but Ren Ichimonji, this makeshift Batman, would likely become a legendary detective—

Mainly because those thieves and detectives usually only become famous after they die.

"Hmph, kicking balls now?"

Ren Ichimonji loosened his grip and casually tossed the soccer ball behind him.

He then reached into his pocket, preparing to take out the Black Star that Kaito Kid had tossed him earlier. That was when he saw Conan's hand rest on his own belt.

Ren Ichimonji: ?

The next moment, Conan pressed the button on his belt.

A soccer ball instantly shot out, inflating from flat to full in less than a second.

He stepped onto the newly formed ball.

His red sneakers were visibly crackling with electricity; it was hard to imagine the sheer wattage behind that kick.

"Kaito Kid, is this your true face?"

"No matter. Now that I've destroyed your hang glider, you have no way of escaping this place. Now, return the Black Star."

The "God of Death" schoolboy pushed up his glasses.

A light source appeared out of nowhere, causing the lenses to flash white, making his image appear exceptionally grim.

"Otherwise, Mr. Kaito Kid, I'm afraid I'll really have to make you a 'legendary' thief!"

Earlier, because of a note he found in the banquet hall, Conan had realized that Ran Mouri was Kaito Kid in disguise.

Subsequently, he had intentionally lured the Kid to a deserted area, intending to use his gadgets to subdue him, reclaim the Black Star, and find out where Ran was.

However, upon arrival, the Kid had mentioned that the clothes he was wearing belonged to Ran.

Then, a voice came from the stern saying a girl had been found unconscious.

His attention was momentarily diverted.

This allowed Kaito Kid to drop a flash-smoke bomb and a pile of clothes before making a run for it.

By the time he had confirmed Ran's safety and tracked the Kid down, it had come to this.

"A detective following a thief is more than just 'nitpicking,' as you put it."

"Underestimating a detective will cost a thief dearly, you know?"

Conan pressed down slightly on the soccer ball, looking as if he were about to unleash a "Meteor Shoot" at any second.

In response, Ren Ichimonji simply shook his head and sighed.

Then, he tossed the Black Star directly toward Conan.

A bewildered Conan caught the pearl and slid it into his pocket, his brow furrowing as he asked, "What's this? Mr. Kaito Kid, are you preparing to surrender at a time like this?"

Ren Ichimonji took a sip of his coffee and said calmly, "I am not Kaito Kid."

The little Reaper followed up, "If you aren't Kaito Kid, then who are you?"

Ren Ichimonji's voice instantly became deep and solemn.

He said:

"I'm Batman!"

Conan: ?

Great, has this guy who mimics Arsène Lupin finally lost his mind?

But... Batman? That note in the banquet hall earlier...

Before the schoolboy detective could think further, Ren Ichimonji dropped a bombshell.

He said:

"I know your true identity."

"Shinichi Kudo, before me, you have no secrets."

"Even the secret of you trying heroin in Hawaii is the same!"

--- WHAT?!

You actually know I tried heroin in Hawai—wait, no! You actually know my true identity?!

A look of pure shock surfaced in Conan's eyes.

He believed he had been incredibly careful about hiding his identity since shrinking; there was no way he should have been exposed.

And yet, the man in front of him had just called him out by name...

"You... who exactly are you?!"

"I'm Batman!"

Conan: ?
