Chapter 48 - Lukas Galewind

Whether it is through inheritance and legacy of one's bloodline, through questionable techniques and rituals, or through divine level of luck that allows one to be blessed by a good kind of mutation at birth or at some point in one's life, there are some people who became blessed by a unique ability that is not present to almost anyone else.

Some of them are just above normal born human with abilities like thinking a little bit faster than others, recovering just a bit faster than normal, having greater strength than average, having better flexibility than usual and the likes.

For some others though, those mutation, inheritance and techniques pushes said ability to a higher level and produces something completely off a normal human's grid, the ability to hear the truths of the firmament, the ability to feel other's true emotions and know their genuine thoughts through touch alone, even the ability to influence others around them through simple words and gestures without effort in their part.

The youngest member of the Spear Mercenary, a famed mercenary group not only to the Kyrios Empire but also to the nations and sovereignties adjacent to said empire, Lukas Galewind, is born as such individual.

His eyes, that of pure silver in color matching his lustrous hair, that stares sharply into his surrounding are both blessed and cursed, a blessing in the form of the vision he is gifted with, a gaze that is capable of seeing through the flow of energy within his surrounding, a power capable of disrupting the flow and circulation of mana around one's body and surrounding so long as he can pinpoint a 'discontinuity' to one's circulation, an ability that is perhaps also one of the biggest the reason as to why he is wielding the spear.

Those eyes, at the same time as being a blessing, is a curse as well, a curse in the fact that gone in his minds were the possibilities of seeing things are they normally are, the beauty of his surrounding always hindered by those bright 'discontinuities' that shines as if they're begging him to pierce through them.

That is exactly the reason as to why this blessed and cursed young man couldn't help but find the peer standing in front of him as an enigma, neither because of his bloodline nor because of the figure that towers even over him, but rather, because of what those eyes of him can, or rather, cannot see.

'Amazing…'

Relishing in the experience of seeing a living being in their entirety, without the obstruction of the 'discontinuities' blocking his view of them, the silver-haired young man mutters to himself as he struggles to contain the smile forming on his face as he reaches his hand out waiting for a handshake with the peer in front of him.

'This one never change it seems…'

Staring at the individual in front of him, Argus thought to himself as he returns the smile in such a natural manner, all while reaching out to shake hands with the silver-haired young man, the sight of those two seemingly going along well making observers, both peer-competitors during the trials and said peers' guardians and elders feeling like they are about to become a problem.

Well, in this mind, the majority of this problem is going to be the silver-haired young man, as most, if not all of the truly talented and well-informed competitors among these young men and women knows exactly what sort of threat this seemingly unassuming young man poses.

"Argus"

"Lukas"

Without any shed of pretense or care about each other's backgrounds, the two young men merely states their name and nothing else, both feeling like they found the same kind of person as themselves, making them nod at each other in acknowledgement.

The handshake didn't last long as not only it, but the encounter between the two was cut off just a moment later, both these two talents, one of them the empire already know of, and the other one just about to shock the entire continent completely, deciding to part ways for now as words came out of the silver-haired young man's mouth.

"I'll see you on the trials then, Argus, I hope we can have a light spar then…"

The silver-haired spearman, Lukas, said with the same near monotonous tone to his voice, something that the ashen-haired swordsman, Argus, doesn't take any offense from, his reply a mere nod of agreement as he keeps the amiable smile on his face.

"I'm looking forward to it"

The once greatest sage replies with a tone of anticipation in his voice, knowing full well that among young geniuses of the same generation as himself, this future master of the spear possessing a unique gift might very well be one of, if not the sole actual existence that is the closest to him in terms of combat prowess, despite the still overwhelming gap between the two of them, that is.

Watching how natural the interaction is between these two prominent figures, as if the two of them had already known each other for a long while before this meeting, the onlookers couldn't help but speculate what is going on, some of the assumptions going from normal ones all the way to other particularly odd speculations of involvement between the two of them, those being whipped up by some questionable ladies among the crowd.

While those crowd starts relishing on these speculations however, the eventual time for the entrance trial to start dawns upon everyone, the plaza, once filled with both aspiring Lumencia Academy students and their elders and guardians now starting to feel a bit more spacious than before.

The reason for that being the workers and staff of the academy now starting to guide said elders and guardians towards another place, leaving only the young aspirants in the plaza as each one of them starts waiting, wondering how the trials will go this year.

Of course, knowing how important this event would be for their life, to the point that this might very well be one of their major turning points in life, most, if not all of the aspirants couldn't help but feel more than just a bit nervous as they await for any update, the nerves of those who are already feeling quite concerned for themselves in the trial finally snapping to the point that they couldn't help but yelp as someone pulls their attention with a loud, sharp shout.

"Aspiring students of the Lumencia Academy, the trials will start in five minutes, prepare yourselves during that amount of time!!"

With those words being said, the aspiring students of this prestigious academy, no matter if they're young prodigies who hail from aristocratic powers or gifted talents who came from the common people, couldn't help but clench their fists in anticipation as mixture of both excitement and anxiety hits them the highest, each of these young people knowing full well that if they want to shine during this trial, then they would need to put effort the hardest no matter what.

Moments passes both fast and slow as each of these young potential awaits for the start, unaware of the waves that will ensue for the duration of this event.
