Chapter 6 - 6: principal’s office

Varney

 I blinked once, then twice.

For some reason, I assumed I'd already be dead at this point from the death stare he had pointed my way. It had me rattled all the way to my feet, making me wish the ground would open up and swallow me.

"You." He echoed slowly after briefly raking his eyes over my form still on the ground and I swallowed a terrified gasp as I struggled to my feet.

His eyes were a bright blue, but instead of a beautiful calm ocean, it was more like a raging storm. His black hair strands framed his face, while most of it was in a bun behind his head. His facial features were sharp, jutting and lethal, and all of that made him even more scary.

"I- I'm truly sorry." I breathed out, hands clasps before me nervously. I could feel a thousand eyes on me at the same time but I didn't think any of that mattered right now. Even my ruined outfits didn't matter. Surviving this moment is what matters right now.

The male lead began to walk towards me and I felt myself almost crumble to the ground again.

"Couldn't you watch where you were fucking going?" He barked and I flinched as he towered in front of me, his face a mask of fury.

"I- I was, but you also walked right into me—" I abruptly trailed off at the sounds of startled gasps echoing in the air, a clear indication that I just made a mistake.

I shouldn't have blamed him, clearly.

"What is he? Stupid?" A girl asked loudly.

'Clearly, I am.' I answered quietly.

My hands were sweaty and my legs were weak. I opened my mouth to apologize again when he suddenly began to unbutton his ruined blue shirt, mouth still in a thin line.

Was he really gonna undress here… in front of everyone?

Is that appropriate?

Even as those questions crossed my mind, he completely unbuttoned his shirt and shrugged out of it, revealing a chest full of strong, powerful looking muscles that had my jaw dropping. Gasps rang through the room at once and I bet everyone was presently ogling him, and I wouldn't blame them, cause he was certainly a sight.

His abs looked so defined and I bet they were firm to touch. His biceps looked so large, it made sense why his arm felt strong as hell when I mistakenly grabbed it a minute ago.

Wait… why am I thinking all these thoughts about his muscles?

It's definitely because I wished I had reincarnated into a body that looked just like this. Yup.

He flung the ruined shirt into my chest the next moment and I managed to grab it before it hit the ground.

I expected him to say something else, but he just wordlessly walked past him, and I stood stiffly, watching as he exited the large hall, and no one dared to stop him.

Somehow, the fact that he just left like that left me more terrified.

I didn't start breathing again until everyone began to talk at the same time.

"You've just landed yourself in big trouble, human." One warlock drawled as he walked past me and his friends laughed.

"Such a clumsy mess!" Another one muttered in irritation.

"Did you come to this school in nothing but rags?" A red haired boy asked after stopping in front of me, pointing at my ruined clothes littered over the ground. He laughed and regarded me in disgust. "And when I didn't think humans could be more pathetic."

I scowled at him, feeling too angry right now. "Why don't you mind your own business?" I demanded angrily, my face hot as I quickly bent to gather the wet clothes together. The box was cracked and couldn't zip up anymore, leaving me no choice but to support them with my hands.

"This is truly pathetic. This school keeps losing its value at this point if they keep letting losers like this in here. It's actually so annoying." The red haired continued in a loud voice and I noticed two other people had joined him.

"Do you know him?" One of them asked. Just like the red hair, I didn't know what class of supernatural he also belongs to.

"What? Of course not." The red haired spat in disgust. "How would I know someone this pathetic?"

As the two other guys laughed, the red haired guy continued. "Besides, you know I hate humans. Those disgusting lots are way beneath us and I hope they all get banned from this school soon."

I regarded the red haired, wondering what his deal was and why he was so mad. One would assume he owns this school from how he's speaking.

I didn't even get to respond to him cause a loud booming voice ordered everyone to go sit at once.

I dragged myself over to one empty seat. It wasn't a hassle cause most people made sure to stay far away from me, like I had a plague.

I didn't let that get to me as I sat alone, cold, tired and hungry as hell.

Three guys ended up taking the seat beside me. One of them had scales on their arms and I assumed he was a merman. The other two, I wasn't sure of what they were, if they were humans or not.

The principal, who I recognised from that message in the clouds which directed us all here, got on the stage and everyone clapped and quietened down.

"Before I began… Varney Montclair, please stop by my office right after this." He announced, his eyes pinned right on me through the room.

I stiffened, a fresh wave of cold washing over me just as everyone glanced at me.

Oh god. On my first day?!

What did he want to see me for?

I was so nervous that I didn't end up listening to everything the principal ended up speaking about, and by the time he got off the stage and everyone began to file out of the hall, my stomach twisted sharply in nervous knots.

As I got up and dragged my broken box along with me, I felt a lot of eyes on me which made me want to disappear again.

In the crowd of students filing out, I caught sight of Eric, the dude back from our kingdom who I was supposed to ride here with, but he ended up leaving without me.

A wave of relief crashed over me at the sight of someone new and familiar, and I held my hand up, calling out to him loudly.

"Eric!!!"

Everyone turned at once and I wondered why they were constantly looking at me. Eric looked back as well, and even after our eyes locked, he turned away fast and resumed walking.

That made me frown in confusion as he left, and a heavy feeling settled in my chest.

Didn't he recognize me anymore? Or was he… ashamed?

With a sigh, I dragged myself out of the hall, briefly wondering if my brother is fairing better than I am right now. But I was certain he definitely is, after all he didn't have to stress and suffer throughout the whole ride here.

When I got to the principal office, he stared me down with a scowl so cold, it sent chills down my spine.

"Mr. Montclair, did you realize the crime you committed today? Clashing with a prince and bringing his danger? What were you thinking and did you think his parents would be pleased to hear of something like that?" He demanded sharply and I flinched.

"But it was a mistake and he wasn't in danger—"

"Silence! How dare a human talk while I'm speaking?" He demanded sharply and as his eyes flashed with anger, making me grow paler.

Alright, he clearly also hates humans.

He walked around his desk and sat; then he resumed speaking, seeming a little calmer. "Aren't you aware that an opportunity like this is rare for a human like you?"

"Everyone would kill to get your spot. You shouldn't be involved in any kind of problems here— especially with a royal, Mr Montclair, because you can lose your scholarship as easily as you got it, if you weren't aware."

Another wave of coldness washed over me.

"I'm so sorry, sir." I whispered desperately, my heart pounding fast. This scholarship is my ticket to a new life. The thought of losing it after all I went through made me feel sick.

"Note that if you get involved in any other trouble, you might lose your scholarship. So be careful on moving forward. You're dismissed."

I exhaled shakily, trembling in fear as I turned around and headed for the door. I was by the door when his voice filled the room again.

"And note, Mr. Montclair, find a way to appease the royal you angered today before he chooses to teach you a lesson himself. This is a new session and I'd rather not start by recording deaths."

I felt chills all the way to my bones as the door was slammed in my face, having no idea of what to make of those parting words meant.

Does that mean the male lead could try to kill me for ruining his shirt?

The fuck?

And the school would be aware but… they'd do nothing about it and just let it happen?

Oh god. What kind of school is this?
