Chapter 7 - 7: finding Sky

Knox.

I let out an annoyed sigh, wondering for the hundredth time why my wolf loved to separate from me and sneak off when I'm asleep.

Since I woke up and realized he was out, I had instantly set off to find him, following the bond I shared with him, but it felt weaker than usual, and that wasn't a good sign at all, so I was worried as fuck.

It wasn't normal for werewolves to be able to separate from their wolves counterparts, but then there was nothing normal about me since I could remember.

I was still shirtless, so I had to stop at my dorm first for a change of shirt before resuming my search. My mind instantly returned to that boy who ran into me and ruined my shirt and annoyance shot through me at once.

He was the same person I ran into outside the school this morning when I had begun to search for my wolf after realizing he was missing.

What was his deal?

He has a face one rarely forgets easily because it resembles that of a doll. He was certainly as clumsy as one, cause he also ran into me outside the school gates.

Humans.

I loathed them.

But if I remembered correctly, humans didn't have a scent and that boy… he definitely had a scent. After he ran into me the second time and ruined my shirt, I managed to get a good whiff while I was simmering in so much rage.

He had smelt like wildflowers and wild berries.

But he was a human regardless and my mouth turned down at the sides in a sneer.

After getting another shirt, I was leaving the school building when I ran into Craig, one of my buddies. He was grinning like a cat who just got the milk, his eyes glowing bright yellow.

"Bro, guess what?" He asked and I arched a brow.

Craig was a lycan. I guess we weren't supposed to get along because of that but I didn't care about that.

"I don't have time for games right now, Craig." I told him urgently, attempting to sidestep him when he blocked my pathway.

"Isn't this about your wolf?" He asked and I paused.

He was a part of the few people that knew I could separate from my wolf. That was a secret which mustn't be made public. Not only would I be more targeted, my wolf would be left vulnerable, and should he get killed, I'd die as well cause we shared one heart.

"I and Patrick saw him while we were running a while ago, he was lazily wandering through the western woods, and he seemed to have been injured in the foot…" he revealed and I stiffened, my eyes widening in panic.

"What?!"

"Yes, but he seemed fine though. Anyone who sees him would definitely think it's you who's now shifted into your wolf form. And you know everyone's terrified of you so they'd all stay far away." Craig explained but that didn't make me feel any better.

He offered to come with me but I declined, telling him I'd be fine by myself.

My wolf was a cocky bastard, he hates when I search for him with the assistance of someone else or whenever I send someone to go find him.

When I set my eyes on him, a relieved sigh left my mouth. He was lazing underneath a large tree, looking fine, safe for the wrapped piece of clothing tied around his calf, which was stained with some of his blood. He was on his feet instantly noticing me, panting excitedly and wagging his tail, making me snort.

"You that happy to see me and yet you keep wandering off?" I channeled the question to him through our mind link.

He looked almost offended.

'Of course not. I'm excited because I've been waiting for you to get here so that I can tell you what I found.'

I rolled my eyes. 'Whatever it is you found is unimportant, Sky. You're not supposed to keep separating from me.' I reminded him as I crouched beside him, then my eyes zeroed on his injured foot.

"How did you get hurt?" I asked aloud, sighing as I unbuttoned my shirt so he could get back inside of me where he belonged.

He made no move to make contact with my chest with his paw, which would automatically make him get transported into my chest.

'That's not important right now. What's important is that I think I found our mate.' He revealed and I was certain I'd have spat out anything in my mouth if I was eating right now.

'The fuck? This isn't time for jokes.' I bit out, scowling.

He stomped his paw down, and if he could, I knew he'd be glaring at me right now. 'I'm not joking! I felt it.'

'You're ridiculous. And this is why I keep telling you to stop running off whenever I fall asleep.' I pointed out and he growled at me, making me roll my eyes.

'I think he's our mate. He's the one who helped me last night while I was hurt.' He revealed and my brows furrowed as he continued. 'He helped us, Knox. You know not a lot of people would do that because they're too terrified of us, thanks to you.'

I let out a scoff while rolling my eyes. While that was definitely unusual, he couldn't seriously be insisting that he found our mate because of someone who helped him out.

'Aren't you a little curious about him?' He demanded when I still remained silent.

'He's very pretty, and he's human, but—'

I barked out a laugh, completely losing interested in this conversation at this point cause I knew damn well that he was wrong.

'Our mate isn't a human, sky. Remember the prophecy?'

He ignored me.

'He smelt very edible, Knox. He looked very pretty too. You need to see him."

I rolled my eyes, already over this conversation. "Sky, first of all… the heavens won't mate me to a boy. I'm straight, remember? And our mate can't be a human either, so stop this nonsense.'

'But…' he began and I shot him a sharp look which didn't make him cower at all. The fucker.

'How are you so sure he's our mate?' I asked tiredly.

'I just had a feeling.' He responded sheepishly and I rolled my eyes.

See? Ridiculous.

I tugged the rest of my shirt open as I spoke. 'Forget everything about whoever that person is, Sky. The person is definitely not our mate. Act like you don't know they exist.'

'I can't just do that. I have to watch out for him, he saved me last night.' Sky revealed and I almost tore my hair out from frustration.

'So what now? You're gonna start tailing him?'

'I'm gonna start watching out for him. I need to protect him. He's mine." A sound of disbelief left my mouth as I stared at my wolf who was glaring at me stubbornly.

This was ridiculous. Sky has never gotten this possessive over anything aside from me when I was younger and weaker than him, making him the protector between the two of us back then.

'You must forget whoever this human is, Sky.' I ordered.

'Take a look at him.' He said instead and a white light flashed through my insides before a face appeared over my mind. Of a boy soaked by heavy downpour, his white hair framing his face and his small, huddled body shivering.

My eyes widened instantly on realizing that was the same boy who ran into me a while ago. The one who smelt like wildflowers. The clumsy legs.

What the fuck?

'See? You're speechless.' Sky snickered.

I focused on him again. 'This is more reason why you should stay away from him and forget he exists, cause you know since he's in this school, it means he'll die in due time.' I pointed out, my mind zeroing on the image of that boy still across my mind again.

He looked really weak and fragile, like prey. I felt surprised that he helped my wolf out in that state.

It surprised me immensely, I never knew a human could be that fearless.

Too bad he'd end up dying along with all the other humans by the time the school uses them for their main reasons for allowing humans access into this school in the first place.

'He doesn't have to die if we protect him though.' Sky pressed and I shot him a sharp look. He was out of his mind.

Me? Help a… human?!

'I'll be doing no such thing and neither will you, Sky. He'll die before graduation. It's his fate and we won't intervene. Do you understand? Now, get in here right now." I pointed at my chest, impatient.

But Sky took a step back, starting to trot away to my utmost disbelief.

'You're forgetting that you don't control me, Knox. I can do whatever I want.' He informed me corkily and I resisted the urge to swear. This was the downside of getting a wolf that's too powerful than regular wolves.

Not only would they be able to separate from you when you fall asleep, they'd also refuse to get back inside of you until when they've gotten what they wanted. I could forcefully shove him inside me right now, cause with my mind, I could control his body when we were in the same spot, but that only means he'll sneak off once I fall asleep tonight, then it would take me even longer to find him again.

That's why it's best that he comes back into me of his own free will. I figured this out many years ago. It prevents us from butting heads too much.

'C'mon Sky, we have enough problems on our plate, stay away from that human.' I tried one last time but he ignored me and walked off.
