Chapter 54 - CHAPTER FIFTY FOUR

In his first life, he had practically desensitised himself to everything related to mechas because he wanted to remain by Si Tian's side at all times. He had spent so much time studying, practising, and improving his knowledge of mechas that even the most complicated mechanisms had eventually become familiar to him.

After all, Si Tian had later become second only to Supreme General Evander, and Yu Weiwei had wanted to be someone who could stand beside him without becoming a burden.

Unfortunately, all that effort had amounted to nothing in the end.

Now that he had been reborn, he had absolutely no intention of repeating the same exhausting routine. He had already worked hard enough in his first life, and if he could help it, he would rather spend this life sleeping peacefully than wasting his time trying to prove himself to people who didn't matter.

His current results were already good enough. There was no need to make things difficult for himself.

"You know, I heard some really interesting news!" Lisa suddenly exclaimed, her eyes lighting up as though she had just remembered something extremely important. She leaned towards Yu Weiwei, who was already on the verge of falling asleep, and shook his shoulder excitedly.

"The person leading our empire's team this time is His Royal Highness Evander. Ha~!"

Lisa's voice was filled with excitement, and she even dragged out the last syllable of her sentence, clearly expecting a reaction from the person beside her.

"Really?!"

Yu Weiwei's sleepiness vanished instantly.

He lifted his head from the table so quickly that anyone watching would have thought he had just received a life-saving announcement. His previously blank eyes suddenly lit up, and the laziness that had practically become his trademark disappeared as though it had never existed.

"Really, really!" Lisa nodded enthusiastically, unable to contain her excitement. "I'm absolutely certain! He'll be leading the team himself this time. Hehe!"

She giggled like a fool, completely unaware that the person beside her was experiencing an even greater degree of excitement than she was.

Yu Weiwei couldn't help smiling happily when he heard the news. His lips curved upwards, and the expression on his face became so bright and genuine that for a moment, he seemed to have forgotten that he was sitting in the middle of a classroom filled with people.

He didn't even notice the way his friends had suddenly gone quiet.

Nor did he notice how several of his classmates, who had been sneakily peeking in his direction, seemed to have entered a trance the moment they caught sight of his smile.

The classroom fell into an unusual silence for a few seconds, with several people staring at Yu Weiwei as though they had just witnessed something extraordinary.

After all, Yu Weiwei was already exceptionally handsome, but he usually wore an expression of indifference that made him seem distant and difficult to approach. Seeing him smile so naturally was a rare sight, and the contrast was enough to catch everyone off guard.

Unfortunately for those watching, the person responsible for their momentary distraction was completely oblivious to their reactions.

Yu Weiwei was simply too happy.

It had already been half a year since his rebirth, yet he hadn't even met Evander once. He had been waiting for an opportunity to see the man again, but between his attempts to maintain a peaceful life and the various things that had happened since his rebirth, he hadn't managed to do so.

Now, however, Evander was finally coming!

Just the thought of seeing him again was enough to put Yu Weiwei in an excellent mood.

He was so caught up in his daydreaming that he failed to notice the faint flashes of light coming from different corners of the classroom.

It was only when the sharp sound of a camera shutter broke through his thoughts that Yu Weiwei finally returned to his senses.

He blinked, momentarily confused, before turning his head towards the source of the sound.

The culprit was one of his classmates, a boy who seemed to have disliked him in the past.

Yu Weiwei still had some impression of him because he had been among the leading students who came forward to apologise after the murder case. Although Yu Weiwei hadn't paid much attention to him at the time, he could vaguely remember his face.

Now, however, the boy was holding his device with an expression that suggested he had just been caught doing something he shouldn't have done.

Yu Weiwei frowned slightly.

Before he could even open his mouth to ask what the boy was doing, the latter immediately began to stutter.

"I-I deleted it! I'm so sorry! You were just too beautiful... Ah, no! I mean, handsome!"

The boy's face turned red as soon as the words left his mouth.

He looked as though he wanted the ground to open up and swallow him whole. Unfortunately, there was no convenient hole beneath his feet, so he could only stand there awkwardly while waiting for Yu Weiwei's reaction.

Yu Weiwei stared at him for a moment before deciding not to pursue the matter.

However, he was well aware that the boy wasn't the only person who had taken pictures of him.

With his SSS-level mental power, he had already noticed the movements of several people around the classroom. He simply hadn't bothered to react because he hadn't considered it worth his time.

Still, he couldn't help sighing inwardly.

Was it really necessary to make such a fuss over a smile?

He had only smiled because he had heard that Evander would be coming. It wasn't as though he had done anything particularly special.

After giving the boy one last glance, Yu Weiwei turned back towards Lisa and continued asking her questions about the inter-orbit tournaments and Evander.

He was far more interested in finding out when Evander would arrive, what his responsibilities would be during the tournament, and whether there would be an opportunity for them to meet than in worrying about a few photographs.

Seeing that Yu Weiwei had no intention of pursuing the matter, the other students who had secretly taken pictures of him finally breathed a sigh of relief.

After all, Yu Weiwei was an SSS-level powerhouse. Even if he appeared lazy and harmless, nobody in their right mind would assume that he was incapable of noticing what was happening around him.

In fact, they were almost certain that he had noticed them taking pictures.

They had simply hoped that he wouldn't bother confronting them about it.

And since Yu Weiwei had chosen to ignore the matter, they had no intention of bringing it up themselves.

However, while they were relieved that they hadn't been caught, they couldn't help glaring resentfully at the boy who had apologised.

If he hadn't suddenly panicked and drawn Yu Weiwei's attention to himself, they could have taken several more pictures!

Some of them had even been preparing to capture a few different angles, hoping to get the perfect shot of Yu Weiwei's smile. Now, thanks to that one careless idiot, they had lost their chance.

The boy, who had unwittingly become the target of his classmates' resentment, could only lower his head and pretend not to notice their glares.

Unfortunately, none of them could have imagined what would happen next.

Without Yu Weiwei's knowledge, the pictures that had been taken in the classroom began circulating around the campus. At first, they were shared among a few students, but it didn't take long before more people caught sight of them and began forwarding them to others.

Before long, the pictures had even made their way onto the Starnet.

And that was when things truly became lively.

Yu Weiwei's smile, which had originally been meant for one person alone, suddenly became the subject of widespread discussion. People who had never met him before began commenting on his appearance, while those who already knew of his reputation rushed to see what all the fuss was about.

However, the most heated discussion wasn't simply about how handsome Yu Weiwei was.

Instead, it quickly turned into a debate over whether Yu Weiwei was more handsome than the empire's beloved War God, Evander.

One side insisted that Evander's mature and imposing appearance was unmatched, especially when combined with his formidable presence and reputation on the battlefield.

The other side argued that Yu Weiwei's beauty was on an entirely different level, particularly when he smiled. His appearance was already breathtaking enough when he wore his usual indifferent expression, but the moment he smiled, it was as though his entire face had come alive.

Before long, both sides had gathered their supporters, and what had started as a few secretly taken photographs had evolved into a full-blown argument across the Starnet.

Meanwhile, the person at the centre of the entire discussion remained completely unaware of the storm he had caused.

Yu Weiwei was still sitting in the classroom, listening to Lisa talk about the upcoming inter-orbit tournaments while occasionally asking questions about Evander.
