Chapter 4 - The Strange Baby [IV] - {II}

The mother-son duo reached home that night with heavy hearts. Both were lost in their thoughts, and neither had a clue what the other was thinking. The physical maturity was blocking their understanding, and Haisei knew he could do nothing but wait it out.

I could write it.She already knows I'm not a normal baby. He considered the idea, idle in the dead of night, from the inside of his baby cradle. It was quiet, and it was times like this that he found his thoughts moving freer than ever.

He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, focusing on the feeling he had felt earlier in the day when he had attempted to utilize Observation Haki. The feeling remained, but only a wisp–Like an aftertaste of your favorite snack or drink.

Haisei huffed. Falling into a meditation routine he used to do at home. Taking three slow deep breaths with quick exhales, while the third had a slow inhale and exhale.

He repeated this pattern softly until his head felt looser than it already did, and that feeling from earlier emerged, hungry and ready to be used. Haisei's golden-red ringed eyes flashed, and his senses expanded rapidly.

From the entirety of his apartment complex to the next block on each side, Haisei estimated he had a range of about 150 meters. He smiled and took a deep breath while he focused on clearing up the blurs and dark voids in his vision,

Range doesn't matter if I can't depict what I'm seeing. I sense the rooms, the presence, but I don't 'see' the room, nor the presence. He noted, keeping his breathing steady as he fell deeper into meditation.

He simply sat in the blurriness, in the darkness of his senses, and let the picture paint itself. He had nowhere to be, other than right here, in the moment. Using time to the best of his advantage was something he was taught from a young age in his past life.

Luckily, it stuck with me so long. He huffed, his mental-vision clearing to a near-perfect image. There's no color in his mind's eye just yet, just simple black and white spacing with perfect outlines of everything in the space his senses envelop.

Okay, now to push it further… He grabbed onto the feeling of his Observation haki and began to slowly push his limits. With a slight shove, he pushes his range to the maximum of 210 meters. Covering nearly the entirety of the dense downtown apartment complexes and industrial design.

Haisei found his mind straining, but fatigue was at bay. He could push his limits all day and not feel a single draw back. Humming, he let his curiosity get the best of him… And maybe it was for the best.

If I push this all night, would my limits be trained, or is this all for naught? Range and simple spatial awareness are all this trains… He grinned, sticking to his idea with a bit more confidence. Range and Awareness are all I need right now. Once I reach a level of combat, sensing and reacting will follow.

And for that whole night. Haisei did exactly that. Indulging his childish ideas and reaching new heights in the course of just eight long and silent hours.

In the morning, Haisei was fast asleep, much to his mother's joy. She hadn't had a day to herself in, god knows how long, since she had Haisei. Enjoying a shower by herself, cooking breakfast, and even having a moment to enjoy a couple of chapters of her book felt like freedom.

Something she hasn't truly understood in years.

. . .

A couple of months pass by in a blink. Haisei continued following his basic training plan for his Haki, while Sarada did her own thing. Working from home was a blessing, but just as much a curse.

I would hate to leave Haisei with a baby sitter… But he can really be a handful sometimes. She sighed, changing her son's diaper with ease as he sat perfectly still. Watching her with his golden eyes.

Sarada stared back, shivering as their eyes locked. The supernatural intelligence hidden behind those bloody rings spooked her; she could never tell whether Haisei truly understood her every move and word.

That possibility frightened her to the max. Though that's something she would never admit. With a huff of air, she stood up and returned Haisei to his cradle, enjoying his insistent silence, only crying when he needed something, and taking the day for herself.

Haisei pretty much did the same thing. He's been so quiet because he's been deep in Observation Haki. Flooding his mind consistently with buckets of new knowledge, as his plan last night worked swimmingly better than he had hoped.

Leave me alone mom, we're in business now! From just a measly 210 meters last night, to a crazy 650 meters now– Once I get a hang of implementing cursed energy into these senses, I'll truly be unstoppable. He grinned to himself, keeping up with everything his mother was doing and everything happening within a 650-meter radius, with him at the center.

From other civilians, to room layouts and mental blueprints of the city being formed in his mind and reformed every passing second, Haisei relished in the power. It was truly intoxicating. I see why villains exist. Abusing power is so easy, yet that only makes me admire the guys with professional restraint more.

Hours passed, and Haisei didn't stop his training until something boggling caught his eyes. Something he hadn't expected to see this early in his life. Twinkling from his cradle, his eyes widened with excitement.

A cursed spirit!
