"Red Blood Manipulation: Supernova!"
After reducing the last few enemies to Swiss cheese, Shinji finally let out a long breath.
If the first seven waves had posed no real trouble, the eighth round had been a completely different story.
This time, they had faced a full seventy Genin — each with a different elemental affinity, all mastering at least one C‑rank ninjutsu plus the three basic transformation techniques.
Though caught off guard at first, they had eventually managed to wipe them out.
But the real question was not how strong seventy Genin were, but what would come next.
The answer arrived immediately: seventy Chūnin.
Following this pattern, the tenth and final wave would bring seventy Jōnin.
Even the Five Great Nations would struggle to assemble that many elite shinobi all at once.
Worse, if they failed to kill all seventy Chūnin within three minutes, the next wave would arrive and pile on even more pressure.
"No wonder they promised a special reward for a perfect clear — the real difficulty was saved for the end."
Shinji stopped holding back. He drew his Kubikiribōchō and charged into the fray, cutting down anyone who came within his sights.
There was only one fate for those he targeted: death.
Unlike the previous wave, these Chūnin commanded a far wider range of techniques — and some even possessed Kekkei Genkai!
"Ice Release: Swallow Blizzard!"
"Shikotsumyaku: Ten‑Finger Drilling Bullets!"
"Explosion Release: Landmine Fist!"
…
Though only about one in ten had a bloodline limit, the chaos they caused was far greater than that of ordinary shinobi.
Worse still, they fought with reckless disregard for their own lives, focused entirely on destroying the Statue of Athena.
Forced to act, Shinji quickly wrapped the statue in a protective barrier made of six‑sided blood crystals, shielding it from the constant barrage of long‑range attacks.
By now, Sasuke and Tamamo Hikaru were starting to feel the strain — and it was considerable.
Chūnin formed the backbone of every major village, and they were outnumbered ten to one.
"Tamamo Style: Human‑Beast Combination Transformation — King Fox of Moonlight!"
Already stretched thin, Tamamo Hikaru merged completely with Crescent Moon, shifting into her massive fox form to rejoin the fight.
Sasuke activated his Mangekyō Sharingan, unleashing Chidori Stream and readying his most powerful techniques for the moment they were needed.
Meanwhile, Tobi had slipped back into doing the bare minimum.
He decided it was better not to reveal too much more of his strength; he had never truly believed in the "blessing of the Evil God," and Hidan's constant glares made him even less inclined to risk himself.
Hidan, however, had descended into pure bloodlust. Empowered by the special properties of his cursed weapon, the Blood Scythe, he was fully immersed in the slaughter, his strength surging to terrifying levels.
Anyone caught within his reach fell in a single strike — though the effect only lasted as long as his momentum continued; if he paused, the buff would reset.
"Where the hell do these things keep coming from? When will it ever end?"
Moxi was dispatching enemies quickly enough, but she hated fighting for no clear reason.
"This should be the final wave — and it will likely be all Jōnin."
Having spent so much time among humans, Moxi knew exactly what that rank meant. One or two would not frighten her, but dozens at once would test anyone's limits.
"I'll blast them all apart with the Nine‑Jade Curse!"
"No — that technique is too destructive. I won't be able to protect the statue if you use it."
"Who cares about that stupid statue at a time like this?!" Moxi snapped.
"Stay here and guard it. Leave the rest to me."
"…Suit yourself!"
Shinji remained confident. Up until now, he had not unleashed his full power — his Cursed Words, Domain Expansion, and other strongest abilities were all being saved for the final wave.
Three minutes passed in the blink of an eye.
Even before the last of the Chūnin had fallen, the tenth wave began to appear.
Though they had braced themselves for it, seeing seventy elite Jōnin step onto the battlefield with blank, unfeeling expressions was still a chilling sight.
Worse, every single one seemed exceptionally dangerous.
"Magnet Release: Hornet Double Blades!"
"Lava Release: Scorching Stream Rock Technique!"
"Blaze Release: Superheated Steam Kill!"
"Storm Release: Thundercloud and Vortex Wave!"
"Secret Technique: Shadow Imitation Technique!"
"Secret Technique: Partial Multi‑Size Technique!"
"Secret Technique: Insect Tornado!"
"Eight Gates Inner Formation — Gate of Life… OPEN!"
…
The tenth wave was almost absurdly powerful. Roughly half of these Jōnin wielded either Kekkei Genkai or exclusive secret techniques.
Their combined strength far exceeded that of all the previous nine waves put together.
And to make matters even more ridiculous, one of them had even opened the Eight Gates — though only up to the third gate, the Gate of Life.
Why not just open the Gate of Death and blow everyone here away in one go? Shinji thought, exasperated.
The situation was rapidly falling apart.
Tamamo Hikaru, already lacking in raw power, was blasted straight out of her transformed state by a stray area‑of‑effect attack.
She would have been turned to ash if Shinji had not clapped his hands and teleported her to safety.
Sasuke would have met the same fate, but his "main‑character luck" kicked in.
Ignoring the heavy drain on his eyes, he fully manifested Susanoo and unleashed Amaterasu, burning through five or six of the attackers instantly.
If anyone ever calls Amaterasu "the gentle fire" again, I'll pluck their eyes out and make them watch this, Shinji thought grimly.
Hidan had activated Bloody Rite: Self‑Sacrifice, ready to drag a Lava‑Release user down with him — only to be struck by a powerful kick from the Jōnin who had opened the Eight Gates.
The blow shattered his chest and drove his ribs straight into his heart.
Yet Hidan remained alive, lying on the ground and screaming in pain, while the Lava‑Release user died instantly from the shockwave.
Tobi, seeing the battle spiral out of control, had already slipped away.
Moxi's eyes twitched. "Let me handle this! You stay and guard the statue — it might not even get destroyed!"
Shinji shook his head. The situation was already chaotic, but this was exactly when he needed to step forward and turn the tide. What kind of protagonist would I be if I couldn't fix this?
He channeled an immense amount of Cursed Energy into his throat.
Now — it's your turn.
First, he locked onto the Jōnin who had opened the Eight Gates.
"DIE!"
The terrifying power of Cursed Words ignored all defenses, instantly striking down its target.
Feeling the cost and the backlash, Shinji found it far less severe than he had feared — these enemies were not truly living beings, so the strain remained within acceptable limits.
"DIE!"
"DIE!"
"DIE!"
…
Shinji became a living weapon of destruction.
Anyone he stared at met an immediate end, his first priority being those with bloodline limits and secret techniques — the most dangerous threats on the field.
