Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: The Best Soldier

With a flick of his right hand, Lin Mu's military knife flashed with a cold light in the air and plunged into his body.

He pulled the military knife out with force, blood spurting instantly, and Lin Mu rolled over, disappearing into the tall grass.

After taking care of the last person, Lin Mu leaned casually against a tree, breathing in the blood-scented air.

"Squad Leader Gao, I've finished on my end. How's the situation on yours?" Lin Mu panted... "Move fast!"

"Taking advantage of the time Aji bought for us, as long as we can reach that village ahead, we'll have a chance to survive."

Ruan Hong glanced at Langde Village, which was faintly visible under the moonlight. His eyes filled with hope as he loudly urged his men.

"Wolf Fang, attack."

"Fast! Faster!"

"Leave none alive," Dog Head Old Gao said.

After a dozen minutes of forced marching, Dog Head Old Gao and his men intercepted Ruan Hong and the other three right at the edge of the mountain forest.

Bang bang! Bang bang bang!

Once the order was given, gunfire erupted outside the mountain forest.

"Big brother, we—"

Before he could finish his sentence, a bullet pierced the center of Zhao Ran's forehead, silencing him instantly.

The core of a commando team lies in the word 'assault'; not only must the assault be fast, but it must also eliminate the enemy with precision.

These last four people weren't even enough to fill the gaps between the teeth of the Lone Wolf Commando Team led by Dog Head Old Gao.

The intense gunfire lasted for only a few minutes before falling silent.

Only Ruan Hong was left standing on the field.

He looked at his fallen companions on the ground, then glanced at Langde Village standing in the distance, which had just represented hope to him.

Ruan Hong's face was deathly pale. Knowing he was doomed, a desperate Ruan Hong raised his pistol to his temple.

He knew he was finished. Rather than being captured, he would rather commit suicide.

Bang!

A gunshot rang out.

"Thinking of suicide? Did you ask me first?" Dog Head Old Gao said disdainfully, looking at Ruan Hong, who had been shot between the eyes.

Having said that, he turned to his companions and said, "The rest of you go find Lin Mu. It seems he's injured."

Dog Head Old Gao had detected a slight tremor in Lin Mu's voice during the communication; years of experience told him that Lin Mu was injured.

"Squad Leader Gao, no need. I'm already here," Lin Mu said, clutching his stomach as he stood before Dog Head Old Gao.

Under the moonlight.

Lin Mu looked at the corpses scattered across the ground and spoke to Squad Leader Gao.

"Squad Leader Gao, did I take out nine people by myself?" After Lin Mu finished speaking, his vision went black, and he lost consciousness.

"Give him first aid first. Tian Lang, get over here and take Lin Mu to the hospital immediately," Dog Head Old Gao said anxiously.

"A few of you go into the woods and see if there are any survivors." Dog Head Old Gao then looked at the Communications Soldier and said, "Communications Soldier, send a message to the Wolfs Den."

"Yes, sir."

Lang Ya Base, Combat Briefing Room.

"Captain, we've received a telegram from Squad Leader Gao's side," the Communications Soldier said to the Captain after translating the message.

"Read it!"

The Captain's furrowed brow relaxed, and his expression was no longer as solemn as before.

"Captain, the mission is complete. There are thirteen bodies at the scene. Lone Wolf A Team eliminated four enemies, and Lin Mu eliminated nine. He has an abdominal injury and has been sent to the hospital."

"Upon inspection, all nine of these individuals were killed with a single blow."

"What did you say? All nine were killed by Lin Mu, and every single one was a one-hit kill?" He Zhijun stood up before the soldier could even finish.

Upon receiving an affirmative answer, He Zhijun couldn't help but suck in a breath of cold air. "All alone, using only a military knife, he went head-to-head against a squad of over a dozen men."

"This kid is a fine soldier. I'm going to recommend him for a citation, grant him a rank, and make him an official member of my Wolf Fang through an exceptional promotion."

Lin Mu felt groggy, as if he had been asleep for a long time.

When he opened his eyes, he found himself lying in a hospital ward.

A nurse beside him was setting up an IV drip.

"Nurse, how long have I been asleep?" Lin Mu asked.

"Ah, you're awake." The nurse was startled by his voice, then said happily, "You've been unconscious for three days."

"Just lie still for now. I'll go get the doctor for you."

After saying that, the nurse turned and ran outside.

Before long, a doctor walked in, lifted Lin Mu's gown to check his injury, and nodded.

"You're recovering well. You can be discharged once the stitches are removed," the doctor said.

"Thank you," Lin Mu said, looking at the doctor.

"You're welcome. Defending the country is your sacred duty, just as healing the sick is ours as doctors," the doctor replied.

"Doctor, can we talk to him now?" The door was pushed open, and Dog Head Old Gao and Company Commander Miao walked in.

"Yes, go ahead. Xiao Ye, let's head out," the doctor said, gesturing for the nurse to follow him out of the room.

"Company Commander Miao, Squad Leader Gao," Lin Mu called out and gave a salute with his left hand.

"You're something else, kid. Taking out nine people all by yourself with just a knife—you've done well," Company Commander Miao said with a smile as he looked at Lin Mu on the bed.

"So you know too, Company Commander Miao," Lin Mu said, looking at his first company commander.

"How could I not know? Old Gao told me," Company Commander Miao laughed. "But I'm curious, why didn't you use a gun?"

"I was just worried that using a gun would give away my position," Lin Mu explained.

"Mhm!" Company Commander Miao nodded. "You're impressive, kid."

"Thank you for the compliment, Company Commander Miao," Lin Mu replied, then asked, "Squad Leader Gao, I wanted to ask if my brothers passed the test?"

"They all passed. They're just waiting for you to recover and rejoin the team," Dog Head Old Gao said. "However, Happy Baby chose to go back to a regular company himself. Anyway, let's get down to business."

Dog Head Old Gao took a red box out of his service uniform pocket. Lin Mu's eyes lit up the moment he saw it.

There was no need to guess what was inside the box.

A military medal!

Dog Head Old Gao: "In view of Comrade Lin Mu's outstanding performance, after deliberation by the brigade and approval from superiors, he is hereby awarded an Individual second-class merit."

"second-class merit? Just as I thought," Lin Mu said.

"You guessed it? There's another one. Keep guessing," Company Commander Miao said with a smile.

Dog Head Old Gao took another box out of his service uniform pocket and said, "In view of Comrade Lin Mu's heroic fighting in the 3203 Area, Comrade Lin Mu is hereby awarded the Medal of Second-Class Merit."

"What?" Lin Mu almost jumped out of bed when he heard the words 'Medal of Second-Class Merit'.

Dog Head Old Gao chuckled and took a piece of paper out of his pants pocket. "There's more."

After reading the Commendation Order, Dog Head Old Gao switched to another paper and said, "In view of Comrade Lin Mu's exceptional performance in battle, special approval has been granted for him to bypass the assessment and officially become a member of our Wolf Fang Special Forces."

"Alright, that's all of them—three in total." After saying this, Dog Head Old Gao placed the military medals and Commendation Orders on Lin Mu's hospital bed.

"You little brat, you're the best soldier I've ever seen," Dog Head Old Gao said with a hint of envy. "I've never handed out so many things to one person at once befor
