Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: Setting Up Booby Traps

Norman, you bastard, don't underestimate the enemy. Don't forget that this is their forbidden zone. They will do whatever it takes to make us stay in this land forever."

Norman whistled again and grinned. "Hey, hey, hey, Boss, don't talk so coldly. I'm not used to it. Besides, as an excellent Soldier, I know how to protect myself."

Davis snorted coldly. "The gunfire has stopped. The Huaxia Soldiers have wiped those people out and should be cleaning up the battlefield now."

"We must end the battle quickly and give them no time to react. I will never allow our Soldiers to suffer casualties on this land."

After Davis finished speaking, he checked his weapon again. "Full speed ahead."

Lin Mu circled around and appeared behind the mercenaries. He had heard what they just said.

He glanced coldly at the twelve men and muttered, "I'll make sure you learn how to spell the word 'regret'."

He pressed his communicator and whispered, "Keep a close eye on the place where the hostages are held. If anyone comes out, drive them back with your guns. Don't let the mercenaries hurt our people. I'm preparing a big meal for them. Wait for my command."

Lin Mu climbed a tree, cut off many thin branches with his military knife, and then connected them to make Tripwires. He then took twenty grenades from his backpack and placed them on the ground.

He arranged the grenades in piles of three and five according to calculated positions. Then, he found stones to weigh them down and used branches as Tripwires tied to the grenades' safety pins.

Some of these Tripwires were five centimeters off the ground, while others were ten. They crisscrossed like a fishing net hidden in the grass.

In this way, a three-dimensional Booby Trap field with a radius of ten meters was completed, blocking a section of the path the mercenaries had taken to get here.

Since the branches were green and blended with the grassy environment, they would sway along with the grass whenever the wind blew.

Lin Mu looked at the remaining six grenades on the ground, took out a coil of extremely thin steel wire from his pocket, took two steps forward, and suddenly leaped backward. When he landed, he looked up, a cold smile playing on his lips.

Then, he used his military knife to cut a length of steel wire and tied it between two trees at a height of about 2.3 meters from the ground.

Then he cut another length of steel wire and tied two grenades to either end. He found stones to weigh the grenades down, setting the wire Tripwire only five centimeters above the ground.

After finishing all this, Lin Mu walked back and forth a few times, then stepped over the Tripwire and planted his foot on the ground.

"This is the spot." After saying that, he drew a circle at his feet, then stabbed his military knife into the soil, removed the turf, dug a hole, and placed two grenades inside.

Immediately after, Lin Mu buried the remaining two grenades behind a large boulder on the right.

Lin Mu walked back, looked around, and said, "A big meal is ready. Don't let it go to waste."

In the distant mountain forest.

Zhuang Yan, who was already hidden, looked at Lin Mu's actions through his rifle scope and asked in confusion, "What is the team leader doing?"

No one answered Zhuang Yan's question because they didn't understand either. However, Old Cannon, who had studied with an Engineer Squad Leader for a while, nodded thoughtfully.

Seeing Old Cannon's expression, the Medic asked curiously, "Old Cannon, do you know what the team leader is doing?"

"My former mentor taught me some Booby Trap techniques. The team leader's design matches what my mentor described," Old Cannon said.

"What's a Booby Trap?" Qiang Zi asked.

"To put it simply, it's a method of laying mines by exploiting psychology. Doing this can inflict casualties on the enemy unexpectedly."

"Setting aside the minefield in front for a moment, take this Tripwire Mine as an example. That Tripwire is completely useless. But the grenade buried in front of it and the one behind the boulder are the real killing moves designed for experts," Old Cannon said in shock.

"But Wolf Fang never taught us this. How does the team leader know how to do it?" the Medic asked.

"I don't know. If I knew, I'd be the team leader too," Old Cannon said, completely impressed.

Zhuang Yan looked at the steel wire and asked doubtfully, "But the steel wire tied to the trees is so shiny. Isn't he afraid the enemy will notice?"

"I don't know either. We'll probably find out the reason soon. Stop talking, the enemy is coming," Old Cannon said.

"Boss, it seems these Soldiers are good marksmen. Look, these outlaws on the ground were all shot between the eyes," Tom said, looking at the outlaws' corpses.

"Why is it so quiet? Aren't they cleaning up the battlefield?" Norman asked, puzzled.

"I don't know why, but I have an uneasy feeling. I feel like they're lying in wait in the shadows," Jerry said, looking around.

"According to the information from the employer, his younger brother is in Langde Village. Since it's so quiet here, the target has likely been killed. Anyway, the employer told us to bring his brother back safely. Now that he's dead, let's go back and ask the employer if he wants revenge."

"If he wants revenge, he'll have to pay more," Davis said greedily, looking at Langde Village nearby.

"Boss, you haven't even gone to check, how do you know he's dead?" Tom asked as he walked back.

"Tom, I seriously doubt your IQ. You're just like that stupid cat in the cartoon. There's an old Huaxia saying: to capture the bandits, first capture their leader. Once the leader is captured or killed, the war is half over," Jerry mocked.

"Jerry, you damn mouse, I'm warning you not to mention that cat in front of me," Tom said, glaring at Jerry.

"Alright, stop arguing. The reason I think the target is dead is because of my intuition. Trust my intuition; it has saved my life several times." As Davis spoke, he subconsciously touched a scar on his throat.

"I encountered a Huaxia Soldier on the battlefield before. If it weren't for my intuition, I would have been a corpse long ago." Davis was clearly unwilling to reminisce, only briefly explaining why he trusted his intuition.

"Boss, do you know which unit he was from? We can get revenge for you if we run into them," Pace said seriously to Davis.

"I don't know." Davis looked at Pace with affection and said tenderly, "Dear, thank you for your kindness. I'll reward you well when we get back."

Fortunately, Davis knew now was not the time for talk. After speaking to Pace, he signaled the team to speed up.

Soon, the group reached the path they had come from. Tom stood there, motionless.

"Why did you stop?" Norman asked.

Tom whispered, "I smell the scent of death. It's very dangerous here
