Chapter 35 - Counting...

Caspian's POV

I was mid-sprint when the second shriek tore through the forest.

Opposite direction.

It was as sharp as the first one. Another distress call.Then it too was abruptly cut short.Almost a yelp.

I skidded to a halt so hard dirt tore under my boots.

"Fuck."

Northwest had screamed first.

Now southeast.

My head snapped between both directions like I could physically see through trees if I tried hard enough. My wolf surged forward towards the first scream—no, the second—no—

Another howl burst somewhere deeper in the canopy.

It was closer.I could hear it clearly.This was not pain.

It was a warning.

I clenched my jaw.Nano seconds stretched like hours… which direction was I supposed to take first? 

Then branches exploded to my right.

One of the scouts came barreling towards me, half-shifted, eyes wide enough to show too much white.Almost popping out

He almost collided into me.

"Alpha…!"

"Report," I barked.

He bent forward, hands on his knees, shaking.
