Chapter 5 - Page 5

"Well… haha, let's talk about that another time if there's a chance," Iruka said, scratching his head, still refusing.

Shari glanced at him, didn't push the issue, and sat quietly to the side, waiting for the ramen to be served.

During that time, Iruka kept glancing at Shari with some hesitation. He had been troubled by something lately. Although it wasn't directly related to her, Shari was the closest person involved, so he couldn't help but want her opinion.

"Teacher Iruka, if you have something to ask, just go ahead. If I know the answer, I'll tell you," Shari said, seeing through his thoughts first.

"Is it that obvious?" Iruka scratched his head again and laughed awkwardly. Then, gathering his courage, he asked, "Shari… what do you think of Uzumaki?"

Chapter Ten: Displaying Talent

Shari paused for a moment.

Even Iruka himself hadn't known how to face Naruto at first. From the beginning, he had addressed her as "Miss Shari" rather than by her family name, and Naruto as "Mr. Uzumaki." The difference was obvious.

After all, Iruka's parents had been killed by the Nine-Tails.

Thinking of this, Shari looked at Iruka seriously and said, "I think Naruto is outstanding."

"Naruto?" Iruka was slightly surprised by the familiarity of the name. So Shari is quite close to him, he thought.

"Really? That's… that's good to hear," Iruka said, unsure how to continue, so he spoke honestly.

"Iruka-sensei, I met Naruto even before I enrolled in the academy. Don't say anything—just watch, and you'll understand," Shari said solemnly.

She formed hand seals.

The next moment, Naruto Uzumaki appeared in front of Iruka.

Iruka's eyes widened. He stared at the transformed Shari in shock. How long has it been? She's already mastered the Transformation Technique? And not just that—she was so proficient that he couldn't tell the difference at all.

Although stunned, Iruka remembered what Shari had said earlier and remained silent.

Soon, new customers entered Ichiran Ramen. When they saw "Uzumaki Naruto," disgust appeared on their faces. Some even muttered curses under their breath as they turned and left.

Iruka watched the scene with a heavy heart. At that moment, he finally understood something.

Shari dispelled the transformation and looked at Iruka.

"This is how Naruto has always been treated. And yet he's still like this—it's incredible. If it were me, I could never become someone like Naruto."

Iruka was silent for a long while before saying quietly, "You're right. Naruto really has it hard."

"Yes. I don't think Naruto did anything wrong. And given his situation, he isn't even allowed to make mistakes. The villagers hate him because of his 'elder,' but as far as I know, Naruto has no family at all. Forcing the sins of the previous generation onto him is simply unfair," Shari said.

Iruka nodded. He didn't explain that what Shari called an "elder" didn't actually exist—that it was a monster feared by the entire village. But her words were still correct. He had known this deep down all along.

After witnessing Naruto's treatment just now, Iruka finally realized something.

If I keep teaching like this, then I don't even deserve to be a teacher.

Letting out a long breath, Iruka felt as though a weight had been lifted from his chest. He smiled at Shari and said, "Let's stop talking about that. Shari, you learned the Transformation Technique so quickly and use it so skillfully. If I didn't know you'd just started learning the Three Basic Techniques, I'd think you'd been practicing for years."

"They're all very basic and simple techniques," Shari replied calmly. Then she formed seals again.

"That hand seal speed—" Iruka's pupils shrank. Then he realized what he was seeing.

He stared in disbelief as Shari used the Clone Technique and the Substitution Technique in succession. If this were judged purely by ninjutsu proficiency, she could have graduated as a genin even during wartime.

This was unbelievable.

Shari was undoubtedly a genius—and not an ordinary one.

"Shari, Iruka, your ramen's ready!" Teuchi called as he set down two steaming bowls.

"Iruka-sensei, let's eat," Shari said, noticing Iruka was still dazed.

"O-Oh… right," Iruka replied, eating absentmindedly.

Shari had done this deliberately.

If she had a powerful background, she might have chosen to hide part of her talent. But she didn't. As a civilian ninja, displaying her talent was the only way to gain attention and proper training.

Even if she could somehow gain instruction from three elite ninja at once, she would abandon her previous plans—but that was unrealistic.

Orochimaru had already betrayed the ninja world. Even if he wanted to take Shari as a student, he wouldn't risk it just for Sinai's sake. Jiraiya was likely still traveling in search of prophecy-related information. Tsunade was even less likely to return to this gloomy place due to her fear of blood.

After finishing their ramen, Shari and Iruka parted ways. Iruka still seemed shaken as he left.

Seeing this, Shari knew her goal had been achieved.

Soon, her talent would reach the Third Hokage's ears. After all, even if the Third only held the title of academy principal, he was still the Hokage.

Shari headed toward the training grounds.

Even knowing how frightening her ninjutsu talent was, she couldn't stop basic training. Chakra quantity was closely tied to physical conditioning, so she had to keep working.

She had already used the Three Basic Techniques too many times today. Even with natural chakra recovery, she had little left. She decided to stop for the day.

Next time, she would practice tree-walking—and then water-walking.

These techniques didn't require much chakra, but demanded fine control. Based on today's experience, Shari felt she would master them quickly.

And then… she could finally fight Xiaoli head-on.

Now that she had learned the Three Basic Techniques, she was capable of combat. In the past, she would have been completely overwhelmed. Even now, she might still lose—but at least she could fight back.

It was time to truly grow stronger.

Learning alone wasn't enough. She also needed real combat experience.

And after that… Shadow Clone Technique.

Chakra shape and nature transformation.

Just thinking about it gave her a headache.

Still, progress was steady—and that was enough. If she kept this pace, perhaps graduation would bring a pleasant surprise.

Meanwhile, Iruka arrived at the Hokage's office. He felt it necessary to report Shari's talent. Someone like her deserved better guidance.

"Oh? Iruka? What brings you here?" the Third Hokage asked kindly.

Iruka glanced at the crystal ball beside him, then, without overthinking it, told the Third everything about Shari.

"Hmm?" The Third's eyes flashed with interest. "Really? That does sound promising."

After a moment of thought, he said, "There's no need to change instructors. Your ability is more than sufficient. You can even teach her techniques beyond her current level."

"Yes, sir," Iruka replied, then left.

The Third Hokage took a slow puff of his pipe.

Though still at the beginning, the child seemed to possess talent comparable to Minato's. Such talent couldn't be wasted.

The problem was… he no longer had the time or energy to personally teach students.

Jiraiya and Tsunade were options, but contacting Tsunade was difficult. Jiraiya had left contact information, but even that wasn't guaranteed.

If the child truly had extraordinary talent, perhaps teaching that technique earlier—once her chakra reserves matured—wouldn't be impossible. Just as Jiraiya had done with Minato.

If Konoha were to see another "Yellow Flash"…

"How exciting."

Chapter Eleven: Attempting the Shadow Clone Technique

"Shadow Clone Technique!"

A few days later, during a school break, Shari adjusted her condition and formed the standard eight hand seals. A puff of smoke appeared beside her.

"Hello, Original," the clone greeted her.

"Hello," Shari replied, finally relaxing. Just as she had predicted, the base chakra cost of a shadow clone wasn't that high. At this level, she could probably create three.

But after identifying which clone was which, Shari realized her remaining chakra had dropped to just over 20%. She could barely use even basic techniques. The clone's situation was worse—its chakra was so limited that it couldn't perform ninjutsu at all. Attempting to do so would cause it to disperse instantly.

Even though she had anticipated this, Shari still felt awe toward this chakra-hungry legendary technique.

She had waited for a holiday, carefully adjusted her body, and only then attempted it. Judging from the result, that caution had been correct.

Shari nodded at the clone.

The clone immediately dispersed.

Shari frowned.

She had actually planned to let the clone finish some housework before dispelling it. Not to exploit it—but as an experiment. Now she had her result.

A shadow clone retains the thoughts present at the moment of separation. It doesn't know what the original thinks afterward—though it could guess, since it's essentially the same person.

When the clone dispersed, its chakra returned—but not completely. Some chakra was lost, in addition to what the clone itself had consumed.

That loss was acceptable. Distance likely affected the amount, and Shari had no intention of sending clones far away.

But what about clones that used up all their chakra? Would their memories still return?

After testing it, Shari understood.

A shadow clone is a physical entity formed by chakra. Chakra itself is a fusion of physical and mental energy. Thus, clones possess bodies and minds.

When a clone disperses, its physical and mental energy recombine into chakra and return to the original. Even if the clone exhausts its usable chakra, the remaining essence still transfers back.

Unless… the clone is trapped somewhere chakra transmission is impossible.

But that was impractical. Creating such a place would be extremely difficult, and the clone would likely sense danger and disperse on its own.

Now came the real test.

Shari extracted all her remaining chakra and formed the seals again.

She didn't attempt to compress the seals—she had no intention of using shadow clones in combat. Her energy was limited, and she needed to invest it where it truly mattered.

"Shadow Clone Technique!"

This time, it succeeded.

The clone sat at the desk and began studying textbooks and the ninjutsu scrolls Sinai had given her.

Shari herself did nothing—no training, no chores. She needed to measure the clone's duration and the fatigue transferred afterward.

An hour later, the clone was still there.

That surprised her.

As long as it didn't actively use chakra, the passive consumption was minimal.

Eventually, the clone looked at her. "Original, prepare."

Moments later, it dispersed.

The memories and fatigue flooded back instantly. Shari lost consciousness briefly, then woke up and sighed deeply.

"Uzumaki Naruto really is a monster."

Now she understood why only Naruto could use mass shadow clones for training. No normal person—no, not even a normal Uzumaki—could endure it.

When clones disperse, all accumulated fatigue returns at once.

It's like lifting two dumbbells for two hours versus lifting hundreds of dumbbells all at once. The results might be the same—but could your body survive the instant load?

Thinking of Naruto's Rasenshuriken training, Shari shook her head. That was Naruto. Anyone else would need Six Paths-level power.

Still, she felt fine.

The clone had only been studying. Most of the fatigue was mental—and mental endurance was her greatest strength.

That was exactly why she wanted to learn Shadow Clone Technique.

Her spirit could handle it.

If only her chakra reserves were larger, she could create even more clones.

And that wasn't all.

Her eyes gleamed slightly.

This experiment was nearly perfect.

Exchanging for Shadow Clone Technique had been absolutely worth it.

She had more plans—but for now, her chakra hadn't recovered yet.

After all, she couldn't afford soldier pills.

Chapter Twelve: A Gift

The next day, the situation was the same—but the shadow clone didn't disperse.

This confirmed Shari's hypothesis.

Because shadow clones can think and form hand seals, they can also control chakra. While they can't eliminate consumption entirely, they can reduce it, extending their lifespan.

This brought many advantages.

Longer existence meant longer training and learning time. Although concentration on chakra control might reduce learning efficiency, overall chakra control would certainly improve.

In the future, Shari planned to create clones with fixed chakra amounts. The longer they lasted, the better their control would become.

Add multitasking to the mix, and the benefits multiplied.

Of course, clones had limited chakra, so chakra shape and nature transformation could only be practiced by the original.

Shari already had insight into shape transformation. According to her theory, the less chakra involved, the easier it was to control shape. Compared to her mental strength, her chakra quantity was small—making this training well-suited to her.

Nature transformation, however, was the opposite.

The most efficient method was like flooding—once a tiny change appeared within a vast amount of chakra, you grasp it and slowly expand it outward.

With her current chakra reserves, rapid mastery was unrealistic. She would have to accumulate gradually.

Simple first. Difficult later.

With her talent, this phase wouldn't last long.

Looking at her schedule, Shari calculated that shadow clones could handle most academic courses. Ninja Academy classes were short—physical training mattered more. Six years of peaceful schooling was more than enough for theory.

Then why go to school at all?

Because most people lack self-discipline.

And most people won't train without supervision.
