The bell rang for the next class, and I hastily packed my notebook.
As I stood up, my elbow accidentally bumped into Alex's book, sending it tumbling to the floor.
"Oh—sorry!" I exclaimed, bending down to pick it up.
Alex's dark eyes flicked toward me. For a moment, he said nothing, just stared.
Then, with a calm voice, he muttered, "Be more careful next time."
I felt my cheeks heat up instantly. My heart raced.
Why did his words feel… not entirely cold?
I handed him the book, hands slightly trembling. He took it, barely nodding, and returned to his seat.
For the rest of the lesson, I kept sneaking glances at him, every glance making my heart skip a beat.
