Chapter 1 - My Hideous End

I don't think many people have been as lucky as I was.

I was born into wealth. My father owned one of the largest tech companies in Tokyo. From childhood, I had everything—never once did I lack anything. I received the best education, attended the finest schools, and mastered every social etiquette imaginable. I lived life to the fullest.

In high school, I fell in love. My relationship with Sona lasted all the way through university. After graduation, we held a grand wedding that even made the news. Our life together was perfect—truly happy. Five years later, we had a daughter. I named her Kana.

Kana was the greatest achievement of my life. I had never loved anyone the way I loved her… and Sona. They were my entire world. Or so I believed.

Three months after I officially took over my father's company, Sona suddenly said she felt suffocated and bored. She wanted the three of us to go camping—just the family—in one of the national forests. No distractions, just nature.

I agreed immediately. Why wouldn't I? The company was running smoothly; a few days away wouldn't hurt.

We prepared everything and left. The area was peaceful and beautiful. At one point I even thought to myself with a chuckle: If someone hid a body here, no one would ever find it.

The first two days were perfect. We did all the classic camping things—hiking, cooking over the fire, laughing. I wanted to burn those moments into my memory forever.

Then came the second night.

I woke up in terror to a scream.

It was Sona's voice.

She wasn't in the tent.

Kana woke up crying from the noise. I quickly soothed her:

"It's nothing, sweetheart. Go back to sleep. Everything's fine."

I rushed out of the tent like a madman, chasing the direction of the scream.

Suddenly, I saw Kana leaning against a tree. She looked unharmed.

I ran to her at full speed.

"Kana! What happened? Are you okay?"

She didn't answer.

But when I hugged her tightly, she hugged me back and whispered:

"Now."

The next instant, a baseball bat slammed into the back of my head with brutal force.

Everything went black.

When I came to, I was lying on the ground, soaked in my own blood from the head wound.

Rain was pouring down.

Sona stood in front of me.

But the look on her face… I had never seen it before.

Disgust. Pure, cold disgust.

Before I could even ask what was happening, a kick smashed into my face from someone I hadn't even noticed was there.

After the pain cleared a little, I looked up.

A handsome man, about my age, well-dressed, stood beside her.

Sona spoke, her voice dripping with arrogance and revulsion:

"Finally awake, you filthy animal."

Filthy animal…?

"Sona… what are you saying? I'm your husband… What happened?"

She sneered down at me.

"I endured you for five years—no, since the very beginning when I started 'helping' you. I hated you. Every time you touched me, every time you came close, I wanted to kill you. And now… my chance has finally come."

I was stunned.

"Why… why did you marry me if you hated me so much?"

The man answered with a smirk:

"Isn't it obvious? Your money. Your assets. You pathetic fool.

We let Sona date you from high school all the way to this moment—just waiting for today.

Now that you've taken over the company after your father's death, it's perfect timing.

If we had done this earlier, your relatives would have inherited everything.

But now? Kana is still a minor. Legally, she inherits it all… as your daughter.

Even though she isn't."

"What…?"

My voice cracked.

"Not my daughter…? What do you mean?"

Sona screamed with utter contempt:

"Giving birth to your child? That's the last thing I would ever do!

Trash like you only has money. You're nowhere near good enough for someone as beautiful as me.

Don't worry—Kana's only four. She'll forget you quickly. She's just a child."

In that moment, I wished the world would end.

The only thing left in my mind was survival.

I tried to reason with them:

"If you kill me now—three months after I took over the company—people will suspect something. They'll find out."

The man laughed coldly.

"Do you think we're idiots?

We have dozens of relatives who will vouch for your 'loving, faithful wife.' No one will suspect a thing."

Then they started kissing passionately right in front of me—touching each other in ways that made my stomach turn.

All of it just to humiliate me further.

I begged.

I begged them to spare me.

I said I would disappear forever. No one would ever see me again. Whatever they wanted.

The man grinned.

"If you lick my shoe, maybe I'll consider it."

At that point, my life mattered more than pride.

I lowered my head and started to obey.

But then he stopped me.

"Actually… I changed my mind. I'm going to kill you anyway."

The moment he said it, I bit his toe as hard as I could.

He screamed in pain.

I used the split second to scramble up and run.

But the bastard had a gun.

A shot rang out.

The bullet tore through my leg.

I collapsed again.

I begged for mercy through tears of humiliation.

He kicked me in the face.

"Don't you know a wound like this will leave a scar?"

They both burst into loud laughter.

With the last of my strength, I whispered:

"No matter how long it takes… no matter what I have to sacrifice… I will take the most terrible revenge on both of you.

I don't care if I have to destroy all of humanity—just so I can see the look of terror and death in your eyes."

They replied with icy indifference:

"Oh well. Don't take it personally. We just want the money."

Then they smashed my head again and again… until everything faded to black.
