Chapter 1 - The black paper

Jake Park, formerly a prodigious science student at one of South Korea's top academies, was riding the subway one ordinary evening. As he stepped off, something peculiar caught his eye: a black sheet of paper lying on the platform. For a brief instant, words appeared, then vanished before he could fully grasp them. Only one phrase lingered in his mind:

"You will not be able to continue your normal life after this."

Jake blinked, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Huh… this is rather interesting," he murmured. "I've definitely read fantasy novels with a premise like this."

He dismissed it as a bizarre prank and continued home. Yet, curiosity soon gave way to unease. The streets he walked seemed unfamiliar, twisting into a path he had never seen before. This isn't my way home…

Before he could ponder further, the black paper seemed to invade his mind, tearing through his consciousness. A sharp jolt shot from brain to spine, and he collapsed in disbelief.

"Hey! WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE?!"

A harsh voice snapped him back. Jake opened his eyes to find himself staring at an angry man. Joshen Gramela.

It took a moment for the realization to sink in—he had been transmigrated. Jake was no longer himself; he now inhabited the body of Kame Kousle, Joshen's personal bodyguard and assistant.

The moment of true chaos has arrived, Jake thought, as Kame's consciousness settled in.

Downstairs, Joshen's family was having breakfast. They invited Kame to join. "Such lovely folks," Jake mused silently, trying to steady himself.

Joshen's father, Hamed Gramela, spoke, his voice tinged with disappointment. "Joshen… as pitiful as ever. You contribute nothing to the family business, and nothing for yourself. At fifty-eight, a grown adult should have been married long ago."

Jake nearly choked on his food at the revelation.

"Oh dear, Kame, you're new to this country, aren't you?" Mr. Gramela continued. "The average lifespan here is about 250 years. At sixty, one is considered fully adult, and yet our Joshen…" He shook his head in exasperation.

Ms. Gramela interjected softly, "Honey, you don't have to be so harsh. He still has years left."

"Only because I spoiled him too much," Hamed muttered, returning a glance of mild regret at his wife.

Breakfast ended, and Joshen, accompanied by Kame, headed to their sprawling garment factory. As Jake surveyed the massive operation, he realized the scope of the Gramela family business—one of the largest in the world of garments.

This is going to be… interesting, Jake thought grimly, already plotting his next moves as Kame.

Jake, formally a science major, had absolutely no knowledge of business dealings of any kind. Muttering to himself with a dry, sarcastic chuckle, he thought, "I am officially doomed."

It was Kame's first day with Joshen. The entire town knew Joshen's reputation—a spoiled brat, the arrogant heir of the largest businessman around.

As Kame walked down the corridor, he greeted everyone politely. Joshen, in stark contrast, stormed past, scowling, barking orders, and making a fuss.

Oh lord, Jake thought, this is exactly the kind of embarrassment I never wanted to have.

Yet, no one seemed annoyed at Kame. Instead, they felt an unexpected warmth emanating from him. Their smiles and nods reflected appreciation rather than fear.

Joshen, observing the reactions, felt a strange, envious tug in his chest. Whispering softly to himself in a babyish tone, he muttered, "This is the kind of kindness I only ever received from my grandma…"
