Chapter 10 - Nikola

"Elandor, I'll come by your side later. You focus on your student," Alice said before closing the door behind him and leaving the room.

"Returning to you, Noxtion... what are you, exactly?"

"As I said, I'm just a lucky slave." My hands were trembling, and I couldn't maintain proper eye contact.

"Noxtion, I have a lot to deal with today, but my eye is on you. You may leave."

The moment I stepped out of the room, all my nerves relaxed. I could barely stand; I leaned against the wall to keep from collapsing and caught my breath for a moment. I hadn't expected to meet Alice, this early. I had also drawn Professor Elandor's attention. Anyway, it would be best to meet up with Luna somehow and review the situation.

After fiddling with the panels floating in the air, which he used for Status and Inventory, it didn't take long to find the Group Chat function. Seriously, who designed this system this well?

The campus has its own dorm? I didn't want to go back to that scoundrel squirrel's inn anyway. This is perfect. Before I go, I should finish picking my classes.

There were many selectable courses. There was no limit to how many I could choose. Of course, I couldn't attend classes that conflicted, but there were even night classes... though they could still conflict. Anyway, it seems I can join classes mid-semester, as long as it's before the exams.

"Introduction to Entity Languages." I had studied the languages of sin and virtue while preparing for the exam, but I know nothing about entity languages. "Hybrid Magic Techniques." I didn't even understand what that meant, but the more magic techniques we learn for combat, the better. "Magic Theory." This seems like a very basic class, but considering how little I know about magic, this course is essential. And finally, "Graph." This is one of the main reasons Hexia is so advanced in magic techniques; I'd be hard-pressed to find this course anywhere else.

I guess I'll check out the dorms now. After all, I was kicked out of the inn. I managed to find my way to the dorms using the signs on the paths. As expected of the academy, the dorm was truly massive. It could easily house thousands of people, but in terms of design, it looked like a souless, gray brick.

I checked the board at the entrance to see which room I was assigned to; it said I was in room 302, two floors up. I should go to the reception, register for the dorm, drop off a few things in the room, and then go meet Luna.

"Excuse me, I'd like to register for the dorm."

"Of course. As if you'd have any other business right now. Fill out your information on this paper, then press a drop of your blood into the last blank space."

The man's mustache covered his entire upper lip; I couldn't even see his chin move as he spoke. Without even looking up from his newspaper, he slid a paper and a needle toward me.

After filling in the information on the paper, I pressed my thumb into the small square box at the bottom with a drop of blood. The bloodstain glowed faintly, and then the paper was suddenly snatched from in front of me, and a set of keys was tossed onto the counter.

I went up two floors to my room, and inside there were two beds, two wardrobes, and two desks. So the rooms are for two people. My roommate had already arranged their things... or rather, scattered them. There were strange metallic devices, cables, and clothes everywhere.

"THIEF!"

Someone not even a meter tall leaped onto my head. Before I could even understand what was happening, they started pulling my hair.

"You again?! Get off me!" I grabbed the thing that had jumped on my head and threw it toward the bed.

It corrected itself before hitting the wall and landed calmly on the floor, adjusting its jacket and glasses. "At least leave me alone in the dorms, you filthy thief!"

"Wait, hold on. This is my room."

"Why should I believe you, pointy-ears?" After I got over the strangeness of something so small glaring at me so angrily, I showed him the room key.

"Yes, this is the key to this room."

"Like I said, this is my room."

He wiped his round-lensed glasses, dusted off his baggy pants, and said, "Sorry about that. Filthy thieves haven't left me alone since I arrived in Hexia."

"I didn't come here to steal anything. I'm just your new roommate. Noxtion." I held out my hand to shake.

He paused briefly, looked at my ears and then my hair, before taking my hand. "I'm Nikola."

"I'm Nox , by the way do you have a habit of jumping on everyone you meet?"

"No, I just haven't been sleeping properly for a few days, and a thief tried to steal my things because of that I couldn't sleep properly." His eye bags were genuinely purple and heavy.

"Now that you understand I'm not a thief, I'll start putting my things away."

"You put your things away, and I'll try to get some sleep." He threw himself onto his bed, not even caring about the devices, and fell asleep somewhere between the gadgets.

After putting a few clothes and potions into the closet, I left the room.
