Chapter 1 - Capítulo 1

The school bells rang, and seconds later, a crowd of children ran toward the exit as if they had been released from prison. Some of these young children had peculiar physical appearances, proof that this world was out of the ordinary. One child in particular, about 5 years old, had a bird-like head resembling a crow. His name was Fumikage Tokoyami.

Fumikage found his father among the crowd of people waiting for their children. He was a young man, slim, of average height, with dark, tousled hair and dark circles under his eyes that made people think he was sleep deprived, yet he waved at Fumikage with a relaxed smile.

"Hi, Dad. I thought Mom was coming today," Fumikage greeted him with a smile when he reached him.

"She had to go out, work stuff, you know. She asked me to pick you up from school. Why, aren't you happy that I came?" his father joked. They both walked to the bus stop.

"It's not that! I just think you've been looking more tired lately. You must be busy in your workshop."

"What a thoughtful boy!" His dad ruffled his hair (feathers, in his case). "Don't worry about that. As for my work... let's just say it's been more complicated than usual," he finished, reluctant to talk about his work now.

"I see."

Fumikage decided not to ask any more questions. His mind began to wander to other matters, especially a certain concern he had had for several weeks.

...

When he got home, someone peeked out from the kitchen when they noticed his presence.

"Oh? You're home," said the woman, Fumikage's mother. She had long black hair, a petite build, and a lively face. "Surprise! I got here before you did."

"Hi, Mom," Fumikage was the first to respond. "I thought you'd still be out."

"The design problem was solved quickly. In fact, they made me go for nothing," she said grumpily. "If only Takeshi were more organized, I wouldn't lose my memory with my files.

"So that's what it was," said her husband. "Well, I'm glad it was resolved quickly. Since I'm here, how about we have lunch together? I'll set the table."

"That would be nice. The food is almost ready. Fumikage, wash your hands."

"Yes..." Fumikage muttered distractedly, heading for the sink.

...

While they were eating, Shizune, Fumikage's mother, began to speak.

"By the way, we'll have to go to the doctor's office for a routine checkup this weekend, son."

Fumikage looked up from his plate when he heard that.

"Is it to check again if I've awakened my Quirk?" he asked, already suspecting the reason.

His mother sighed and replied, "Yes, just like a year ago. But don't feel pressured, children develop at different rates. As long as you're healthy, I'm happy."

"I guess so," Fumikage said in a whisper. "I'm not so sure about my Quirk anymore. Did it take this long in the original story?" he thought.

"You seem worried lately. Is that why? Because you haven't awakened your Quirk yet?" his dad asked.

"Huh? Oh, something like that." "Although that's not the only thing that's been on my mind for weeks. I had a bit of an existential crisis," he said to himself.

"Listen, son," his dad reached out and touched his shoulder. "There's a chance that, you know... you might not have a quirk as such." Hiroshi felt reluctant to dash his son's hopes of having some kind of power, but he wanted to soften the blow if that were the case by reminding him of that possibility. "Even if that happens, it won't change the fact that you're our smart little boy. I know you'll be able to handle that setback.

"I know. Dad, Mom, I'm not worried about that. I'm more concerned about what to do during the holidays." Fumikage joked, to lighten the mood.

His mother watched the exchange closely, smiling and nodding secretly. She knew her husband was trying hard to show his support as a father. She was also happy that her son was acting so mature.

"Okay, kids, enough talking. Let's keep eating, the food is getting cold," she urged.

After having lunch together, his father returned to his workshop, his mother focused on her computer, and Fumikage went up to his room. After entering, he immediately jumped on his bed and stared at the ceiling.

"Are you there, Dark Shadow?" he murmured into the void.

Clearly, there was no answer, only silence dominated his room. Then he sat up suddenly, looking at his shadow. "According to what I saw in the memories, Dark Shadow is supposed to be connected from my abdomen, so..." he wondered, "Why do I feel like something is hiding in my shadow? No, in fact, I feel my shadow as a part of my body."

Deliberating a little in his head, he thought of something. He got up decisively, moved straight to his nightstand, and took out a notebook from behind it. A notebook he had started writing in about three weeks ago. On the first page were messy, confusing letters, written in a child's handwriting, but still legible. The phrase "My dreams" could be read at the top. Turning page after page, filled with letters, symbols, and simple drawings, he came to a section that said "Awesome shadow powers."

After briefly reviewing what it said, he closed the curtains, plunging the room into darkness. Strangely, the darkness made him feel more relaxed. Then he turned on the lamp on his nightstand and stood with his back to it, facing his shadow.

Inhaling and exhaling a couple of times to calm himself, he stretched his hands forward and commanded.

"Dark shadow, come out!"

Nothing.

"Come forth!"

Still nothing.

"Sha ZAM!"

Less.

He put his hands together in a certain pose. —Strangling shadow!

That didn't work either.

—Shadow Clones!

...

Frustrated that nothing was working, he checked his notebook again and found another shadow power. Still not giving up, he made a hand movement, a shadow puppet that replicated the appearance of a dog's head. Then he exclaimed.

"Divine dogs!"

Again, there was no... no, in fact, now there was a change.

The moment he said that phrase, his shadow moved upward, creating a blurry shape.

"...Huh?" Fumikage froze and lost his concentration. Immediately, the shadow crumbled.

"No, wait, ah agh—" After recovering from the shock, he had no rest, and a sudden wave of information flooded his head, causing him to feel slightly dizzy.

Shaking his head, he quickly stabilized himself. "This was similar to receiving past memories. But that's not what's important!" he told himself.

Pacing nervously, he began to assimilate the information he had received. And indeed, it was information about the ten shadows, the ten shadows! Confirming this made him feel euphoric.

"Accurate information about shikigami, their powers, the steps to tame them, their rules. This is crazy!" he thought, a happy smile remaining on his face.

"First, let's see if I'm not dreaming," he reminded himself. He put his hands together again in a summoning position, this time determined to stay focused. "Divine dogs," he said with conviction.

Immediately, he felt and saw the movement of his shadow. Little by little, the shadow became corporeal, finally taking the form of two dogs, similar to wolves, one white and one black, just as he remembered.

Both dogs kept their gaze on their summoner, awaiting his orders.

"It's true, they really are the ten shadows," Fumikage whispered in a dreamlike state. "Incredible!" he shouted, raising his hands in the air.

"Auuuuu!" The dogs howled in a show of camaraderie.
