Chapter 387 - The Summons

Translator: AnubisTL

The shimmering light of teleportation faded in the private laboratory, and Jieming stepped out, his figure materializing within the room.

Without a moment's delay, he activated the magic net terminal that had been flashing on his person and quickly established a connection.

A screen of light unfurled in the air, revealing the familiar figure of Mentor Clark.

He was still wearing that impeccably neat, dark wizard's robe. His signature slightly balding forehead reflected a scholarly glow under the laboratory's cool lights, and his expression was as calm and focused as ever.

"Mentor," Jieming greeted respectfully.

Mentor Clark's personality remained unchanged. Without a word of pleasantry, he got straight to the point, his tone as concise as if he were reciting experimental parameters: "Jieming, clear your schedule starting one month from now for about a year. There is something I need to show you."

"What is it?" Jieming asked curiously, feeling no resistance to the request.

After all, times had changed. He now had a large team of Black Giant Priests serving as his highly efficient "workhorses." Every research project was progressing methodically, and a dedicated team was overseeing the construction of the Incense Divine Path.

Being away for a year or two wouldn't greatly affect his core research. In fact, he wanted a change of scenery to spark some new inspiration.

"It's not just you," Clark added. "Viola and Anker will be coming too. I'm taking the three of you to meet my mentor's mentor."

His Grandmentor?

Jieming froze for a moment.

Clark's mentor's mentor... That would be at least a seventh-tier Great Wizard.

He asked curiously, "Did something happen? Why do we all need to go?"

Clark's expression remained unchanged, but his words made Jieming's pupils shrink instantly. "Your Grandmentor is attempting to advance to an eighth-tier wizard."

An eighth-tier wizard!

Jieming's heart jolted as if struck by a silent bolt of lightning.

In the wizard world, the ninth tier was the peak—a supreme being capable of creating and twisting the very rules of existence.

The eighth tier was infinitely close to the top of the pyramid!

Though the eighth tier seemed insignificant in the shadow of the ninth, one had to remember that before this, the entire Noren Workshop had only one eighth-tier Workshop Master.

Seeing the shock on Jieming's face, Clark continued his calm explanation. "The main purpose of taking you there is to broaden your horizons. Observing the insights gained during the advancement from the seventh tier to the eighth tier will be of immeasurable benefit to your future paths. Incidentally, it will also allow you to meet other fellow disciples from our lineage."

"I understand, Mentor! I'll clear my schedule and make sure to arrive on time!" Jieming immediately realized the significance of the opportunity, his voice brimming with irrepressible excitement.

A chance like this was worth waiting for, not just for a year, but even a decade!

As the light screen vanished, Jieming immediately summoned his Black Giant Priests and efficiently arranged the rest of his affairs.

A month passed in the blink of an eye.

Using the academy's internal targeted teleportation formation, Jieming arrived precisely at Noren Academy No. 13, stepping into Mentor Clark's office—a room crammed with books, instruments, and unidentified biological specimens.

As the white light faded, Jieming realized he was the last one to arrive.

Senior Viola and Junior Brother Anker were already waiting.

What caught Jieming's eye even more was the young man, who looked to be in his early twenties, standing beside Anker.

The young man's face bore a slight resemblance to Anker's, his eyes filled with curiosity about the unfamiliar surroundings and a hint of reserve.

Jieming's keen senses swept over him, and he immediately recognized a familiar mark in the young man's soul aura—it was the very embryo whose aptitude he had personally enhanced all those years ago!

This meant the young man was Anker's child.

Sensing his energy fluctuations, Jieming was astonished to find he had already reached the level of a first-tier wizard.

A strange sense of melancholy washed over Jieming.

To him, it felt as if he had merely spent a few decades buried in his studies and research, as if all that time had passed in the blink of an eye. Yet in the outside world, even his junior brother's descendant had already grown up and embarked on the formal path of a wizard.

This dislocation in the scale of time gave him a deeper understanding of the concept of time for high-rank wizards.

"Junior Brother Jieming, you've arrived so 'early,'" Viola said, tossing her beautiful silver-gray hair. She seemed to have taken extra care with her appearance today, her gestures deliberately exuding a rare elegance.

Beside her, Anker quickly brought the young man forward and bowed respectfully to Jieming. "Senior Brother Jieming, this is my son, Kors..."

"Junior Brother Anker, and you... little one, there's no need for such formality," Jieming said with a smile, returning the greeting to Anker and his descendant.

When his gaze turned to Viola, however, his face betrayed a look of unhidden shock. "Senior Sister, are you having an episode? What's gotten into you today?"

A vein instantly bulged on Viola's forehead, and her forcedly maintained elegant posture immediately crumbled.

"What do you mean by that?!" she hissed through gritted teeth, lifting her foot and kicking Jieming's shin bone hard with her stiff shoe tip.

Thud.

Jieming didn't budge an inch, nor did his expression change.

His body, tempered a thousand times over by the Body Tempering Method, had a hardness comparable to high-tier mana-conductive metal.

Viola, on the other hand, felt as if she had kicked a solid steel pillar.

Even though the physical fitness of a sixth-tier wizard was absolutely formidable, she still let out a pained "Ow!" and started hopping on one foot, clutching her foot as tears nearly welled in her eyes.

Seeing the smug smirk playing on Jieming's lips, a fierce glint flashed in Viola's eyes.

The next second, Jieming felt a sharp, distinct pain shoot through his own shinbone!

"Huh?" Jieming was genuinely surprised. He looked at Viola, who was grimacing in pain but finally recovering. "Senior Sister, have you already mastered your Law to this extent?"

Judging by Viola's expression, this wasn't just "empathy." She had directly transferred the pain she suffered to the one who inflicted it, without losing a single ounce of it!

"Hmph! You're built like a damn ox!" Viola grumbled, rubbing her foot, which still seemed to ache. But a smug look quickly returned to her face. "But that's because your Senior Sister is just that much of a genius!"

As she spoke, she reached out and made a gesture in the air, as if to show off.

Jiemang felt the pain in his leg vanish instantly, as if it had never existed.

Viola lifted her chin like a proud peacock. "See that? I can also 'store' the pain and 'gift' it to anyone I choose whenever I need to."

She shot Jieming a threatening glance.

Jieming immediately understood the hint. He clapped vigorously, his tone exaggerated. "Amazing! Senior Sister is incredible! This application of the Law is truly masterful—completely impossible to defend against!"

Beside them, Anker and his son watched, dumbfounded, their faces etched with utter confusion.

He simply couldn't comprehend why these two profound and powerful seniors, when brought together, would display such... peculiar chemistry.
