Chapter 5 - 2:17 A.M. conversation

Jay stared at her phone.

It had been five minutes.

Five very long minutes.

She tossed the phone on her bed, then immediately grabbed it again.

"Why am I like this?" she whispered, biting her lip.

She had just come back from their first official date—and even though it had been perfect… she still wanted to talk to him.

Again.

Always.

Her screen lit up.

Keifer: Did you reach home safely?

Her heart melted instantly.

Jay smiled, typing quickly.

Jay: Yes, Mr. Responsible. I reached 20 minutes ago 😌

There was no reply for a few seconds.

Then—

Keifer: Good. I was about to call you if you didn't reply.

Jay's smile grew.

Jay: You worry too much.

Keifer: Only about you.

She paused.

Read it again.

And again.

Why did simple words feel like so much?

Across town, Keifer was lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling, his phone resting on his chest.

He hadn't stopped smiling since the date ended.

Every message from her made it worse.

Or better.

Definitely better.

His phone buzzed again.

Jay: What are you doing?

He smirked, typing instantly.

Keifer: Thinking about you.

Jay blinked at her screen.

"Okay… wow," she whispered, trying not to smile too much.

Jay: That's such a line.

Keifer: It's not a line if it's true.

She rolled onto her stomach, hugging her pillow.

Jay: Hmm… I'll decide if I believe you.

Keifer: Oh really? How?

Jay thought for a second, then typed:

Jay: Tell me your favorite moment from today.

Keifer didn't reply immediately this time.

He thought.

There were so many.

Her laugh in the café.

The way she held his hand.

The way she looked at him like he actually mattered.

But one moment stood out.

Keifer: When you smiled after our first kiss today.

Jay's breath caught slightly.

Jay: Why that?

Keifer: Because it wasn't just a smile… it was like you were happy with me. Like you chose me.

Jay stared at the message, her chest tightening in the best way.

She typed slowly this time.

Jay: I did choose you.

A few seconds passed.

Neither of them sent anything.

But neither of them stopped thinking.

Keifer: Your turn. Favorite moment?

Jay smiled softly.

Jay: When you held my hand while we were walking.

Keifer: That simple?

Jay: Yeah. Because you didn't ask. You just did it… like it was natural.

Keifer: It felt natural.

Jay closed her eyes for a second, replaying it.

Jay: It felt right.

Time passed without them noticing.

10:45 PM.

11:30 PM.

12:15 AM.

The conversation never stopped.

Jay: Are you always this talkative at night?

Keifer: Only with you.

Jay: Again with the lines.

Keifer: Again with the truth.

At 1:02 AM—

Keifer: You know what I realized today?

Jay: What?

Keifer: I'm happier when I'm with you.

Jay's fingers hovered over the screen.

Her reply came slower this time.

More honest.

Jay: Me too.

At 1:38 AM—

Jay: We should sleep.

Keifer: We should.

Jay: But I don't want to.

Keifer: Same.

At 2:05 AM—

The messages got softer.

Shorter.

But deeper.

Keifer: Jay?

Jay: Hmm?

Keifer: I love you until scientists find the end of the universe ❤️

Jay smiled, eyes half-closed.

Jay: I love you too Mark keifer waston ❤️

A pause.

Then—

2:17 AM.

Silence again.

But this time, it wasn't empty.

It was full of something growing.

Something quiet.

Something real.

Keifer: Sleep now?

Jay: Yeah… before we say something too emotional.

Keifer: Too late for that.

Jay smiled.

Jay: Goodnight, Keifer.

Keifer: Goodnight, Jay.

A few seconds later—

Keifer: Text me when you wake up.

Jay laughed softly.

Jay: You're impossible.

Keifer: And you're mine.

Jay stared at that message for a long moment.

Then typed—

Jay: Sleep. Goodnight.

But she didn't put her phone down immediately.

She read their chat again.

And again.

Smiling like she couldn't stop.

Keifer finally closed his eyes.

Still smiling.

Because for the first time—

He wasn't just ending the day happy.

He was starting something even better.

The end.
