Lina never saw the maid again after that day. The woman had vanished without leaving so much as a trace, as though she had never existed in the first place.
Lina made a casual inquiry with the person responsible for managing the palace servants, hoping to find out who the maid was and where she had gone. Unfortunately, the coronation banquet had brought countless people into the palace, and the household had been in complete disarray. Noblewomen with distinguished names and family backgrounds had crowded around Lina throughout the celebration, while the lesser attendants and servants had moved about unnoticed among them. The person in charge could not even identify the maid Lina was asking about, let alone explain what had happened to her.
Lina decided not to pursue the matter. If she investigated too insistently, she might accidentally expose something she would be better off keeping hidden.
