Chapter 42 - My Ex-Wife Asks for Help!

In large families, the distinction between elders and juniors is always strict. Jessica Harper was Emily's younger sister, but she actually asked Emily to be her driver and chauffeur her in public!

Jessica naturally felt that as the future wife of the chairman of Horizon Group, her status would be higher than anyone else in the Harper family, and Emily would have to rely on her in the future.

But Emily had always been proud—how could she tolerate such humiliation!

Emily said angrily, "I'm very busy! I don't have time to drive you!"

After saying that, she turned and left the villa, driving away with resentment in her heart. Coupled with her poor driving skills, she accidentally crashed into a tree.

Fortunately, the car was traveling at a very slow speed, so no one was hurt and the car wasn't badly damaged.

"I hate it! I hate it! I hate it!"

Emily pounded on the steering wheel with both hands, tears streaming down her face.

In a fit of anger, she quickly took out her phone and called Jeff.

Jeff was still at the company when he saw Emily's call, which surprised him greatly.

"Hello."

Jeff waved to Secretary Brooks, signaling her to leave his office, and then answered the phone.

Emily exclaimed emotionally, "Jeff, you're a bastard! I hate you!!"

In the past few days, Jeff had fantasized countless times about receiving a call from his ex-wife one day, or about Emily suddenly coming to find him.

She would say to him, "I'm sorry, I was wrong, I shouldn't have cheated on you, please forgive me."

Although Jeff would never truly forgive her, he wanted to hear Emily say sorry!

He wanted her to truly realize that she had done something wrong!

Just a second before answering the phone, Jeff desperately hoped that Emily's first words would be "I'm sorry!"

But that wicked woman, Emily, was still cursing him!

Jeff sighed helplessly. He heard a sob in Emily's voice. After three years of marriage, they still had a deep affection for each other, and he was also very worried about Emily.

"What's wrong?" Jeff asked.

Emily continued cursing on the other end of the phone: "You bastard! Bastard! Bastard! Since you pretended to be the one who gave Grandma the jade bracelet in the first place, why didn't you keep pretending? Why did you tell Uncle and Jessica the truth! Do you know how much face you've made me lose in the family?"

Jeff thought something had happened to Emily, but it turned out it was because of this.

In fact, Jeff never changed his story, and he was not lying either time.

The jade bracelet was a gift from both Jeff and the chairman of Horizon Group, since Jeff was the chairman of Horizon Group.

Jeff had clearly told the Harper family about this, but they were just looking down on him and didn't believe him.

Emily continued to complain to Jeff: "Now everyone in the family knows that your Chairman Sterling likes Jessica. Grandma keeps praising her. Do you know what that brat Jessica just said to me? She actually asked me to drive for her!"

"If she really marries your Chairman Sterling in the future, I will have even less status in the Harper family."

Jeff smiled and said, "Don't you have that young master Ryan?"

Emily said, "How can Ryan Caldwell compare to Chairman Sterling! He's not even the chairman in his family's company—he's not even in the same league as Chairman Sterling!"

Jeff laughed: "Hearing you say that, I don't even know if I should be happy!"

Jeff never expected that his ex-wife would admit that the other man was no match for him!

To everyone's surprise, Emily retorted, "What are you so happy about! Ryan may not be as good as Chairman Sterling, but he's a million times better than you! At least he can help our Harper family, allowing me to hold my head high both within the family and outside! And you? You only bring shame to me! You left behind such a mess before the divorce, and now I have to clean it up for you!"

Jeff was a little angry. "If you're calling to scold me, then I'm hanging up. I'm busy."

"Wait a minute!" Emily called out urgently, her voice becoming much gentler. "I'm calling you because I want you to do me a favor."

Jeff said, "Go ahead."

Jeff wouldn't directly refuse. He believed that emotions and real life should be kept separate. He couldn't let emotional issues completely sever his life ties.

Previously, if Jeff had really stolen the Harper family's watch, he would have been sentenced to more than fifteen years in prison according to the law.

The Harper family didn't go too far; they didn't intend to try to send Jeff to prison.

Emily said, "I don't want Jessica and your Chairman Sterling to develop things too smoothly. Jessica will be going to your company this afternoon. She likes to drink black tea lately. Pour her a cup of black tea and put some laxative in it so she keeps going to the toilet."

"Or, when you brush past her, pretend to accidentally tear her tight dress. You're so strong—she won't suspect you."

Jeff thought it was something serious and said, "Okay, I'll help you with this, but there's no need to go to so much trouble. I'll just tell Chairman Sterling not to see her."

Anyway, Jeff didn't plan to see Jessica in the first place.

Upon hearing this, Emily said in disbelief, "Stop bragging! You're just a bodyguard, and just a bodyguard at that—not even Chairman Sterling's personal one. You think you can just tell Chairman Sterling not to see her and he'll just disappear?"

Believe it or not. I can. Cause I don't plan to see her.

After Jeff finished speaking, he hung up the phone immediately.

Then, he called Secretary Brooks in and explained the matter to her.

...

At 2 p.m., Jessica arrived at the chairman's floor of Horizon Group again.

Because Horizon Group was very large, different employees were distributed on different floors, and the floor where Jeff was located was a relatively core floor.

Moreover, besides the senior management within Horizon Group and very close positions such as secretaries and assistants, the other employees had never seen what the company's chairman looked like.

This resulted in Jessica being unable to obtain a photo of Chairman Sterling from several employees of Horizon Group before her arrival.

"Ms. Harper, you've arrived." Rachel Brooks greeted Jessica immediately.

Jessica glanced down at Rachel Brooks, still holding a grudge about not being given tea that morning.

Jessica asked, "Take me to the reception room."

Rachel Brooks said, "Ms. Harper, I'm sorry, you should go back."

Jessica was taken aback. "Why? Will Chairman Sterling be gone the entire afternoon?"

Rachel Brooks shook her head. "That's not how it is. Chairman Sterling said you are too beautiful. If he talks to you about the contract, he's afraid he'll focus all his attention on you and forget about the work."

"So, we'd like to have someone else from your family come instead."

"Change the person?" Jessica was initially disappointed, but the reason for the rejection made her dizzy with excitement.

"Did Chairman Sterling really... compliment me on my looks? Does he... know what I look like?" Jessica's pretty face flushed slightly.

Rachel Brooks nodded and said, "Yes, Chairman Sterling follows your short video account and watches your videos often."

Jessica was even more smug; Chairman Sterling was indeed her admirer!

Jessica said: "Alright then, I also think it's not appropriate to talk about work with Chairman Sterling on our first meeting. I'll have someone else do it. Um, Secretary Brooks, please tell Chairman Sterling that he can ask me out for coffee or a movie anytime he's free."

Rachel Brooks said, flatly, "I will definitely pass on the message."

Seeing that Rachel Brooks's attitude toward her had changed a lot, Jessica said, "Take me to the elevator."

"Yes."

Rachel Brooks followed Jessica to the elevator entrance.

Seeing that no one was around, Jessica suddenly took out a wad of cash from her small, hand-embroidered LV purse and handed it to Rachel Brooks.

"Send me a picture of your Chairman Sterling."
