Chapter 1 - Chapter 0

It was a dark and snowy night, the forest was completely dark except for a single clearing in the center of which stood a tall mansion. The clearing was illuminated by the light coming from the mansion as well as floating purple flames that resembled will-o'-the-wisps .

Inside the building a creature could be seen looking out the window, the creature was pure black like a shadow and stood tall, towering well above the height of any normal human, despite not having a visible face the creature looked contemplative. Suddenly it appeared that the creature had come to a decision ,it moved away from the window and was soon seen exiting the mansion.

It walked through the snow, two of the purple flames around him and illuminating it's surroundings , after walking a while he came to a halt as a small clearing appeared in the middle of witch stood a single tree whose branches seemed to extend endlessly into the sky, however it was not the tree which had interested the creature but something else. Beneath the tree there was something strange which the creature had never seen before, he carefully approached it and picked it up, from afar the thing had looked kind of like an egg? With a strange raisin like face on top, however upon closer inspection, the thing wasn't actually egg shaped but was wrapped in clothes to look like one. The thing reminded the creature of some of the illustrations in the books present in his library, if he's not wrong then he's pretty sure that they were called 'humans'

He looked at the thing-no* human* in his arm and was intrigued. He was staring intensely at the human when it suddenly made a high pitched noise that startled him so much he almost dropped it. He started panicking and didn't know what to do, he didn't understand what this human wanted and why it was making that sound. So he decided to teleport to his friends house.

The old creature was sitting in front of the fire and calmly sipping her drink when out of nowhere a shadowy figure appeared in front of her. She was about to tell at her rude friend for interrupting her me-time, but she paused what she heard a strange noise coming from a bundle of cloth in his arms. She looked at her friend waiting for an explanation but he stayed silent and simply forwarded the bundle to her, in which she noticed lay an infant.

she had done her fair share of research on humans . However this was her first time encountering one in real life, she was mesmerized , but it didn't take her long to snap out of it, she handed the creature back to her friend and told him to wait as she went into a room to get something.

She quickly returned and got to work feeding the baby. She used some harpy warbler intestine which she had thought cleaned earlier(she was planning to make sausages with it but oh well~) she filled the intestines with milk and brought the end close to the baby's mouth. It quickly latched on and started drinking fiercely like it had been starving, and to be fair it probably was. After a while the infant finally getting full, fell asleep.

The shadowy creature gently cradled it in his arms as the old creature looked at him. Finally deciding to break the silence she spoke," Alright explain yourself ." In the tone that left no room for argument. He paused a bit before replying" I found it near the tree, the one that suddenly started growing last month".

She stood still for a moment processing the information, however that had not been the information she was after. She stared him down and asked" what do you plan to do with it, if you're not sure you can leave it here with me?". He met her eyes and began after a moment of hesitation," I plan on taking care of it"

"Alright, I'll help"

The creature looked at her surprise visible on his facial features, she shot him a slightly annoyed look and spat "what you don't want my help-"

Seeing his friends offended face he quickly explained" No it's just I thought-" "Thought what?" " Well just that you would oppose me"

"I'm not heartless Umbra .I can see that the human likely won't survive on it's own, and besides it's not like I can stop you from taking it in if you want"

"I'm grateful Sidus" the creature, now identified as Umbra, thanked.

" Your welcome, now to more pressing matters , we can't keep calling the child it, from my observations this infant is a 'girl' which means a female human so we should thing of an appropriate name for her, any ideas?"

Looking at the child's face, he remembers her eyes which flashed with rainbow sparkles once the light from the will-o'- the-wisps

Illuminated her face.

"Opal"

" Opal, Thats a good name" Sidus smiled.
