Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 — RADIANT BLAZE

The storm above New Eden had not calmed.

If anything, it had grown angrier.

Dark clouds twisted into a violent vortex, streaks of lightning clawing across the sky like glowing scars. Thunder boomed endlessly, shaking the shattered city to its foundations. Rain mixed with ash, falling in heavy sheets that hissed against molten cracks in the streets.

At the center of the destruction, Kael stood motionless.

His chest rose and fell slowly. His fists burned, wrapped in a living fire that pulsed in time with his heartbeat. The shattered ground around him still smoldered from the clash, fragments of metal and stone floating weightlessly in the lingering pressure of unleashed power.

Behind him, the remnants of his team struggled to rise.

Aerin leaned heavily on her staff, breathing hard, her silver eyes wide with disbelief. Vex lay on one knee, blood streaking down his jaw, his usual grin completely gone. Lira crouched behind broken debris, her trembling hands gripping her blades as she stared at Kael as if seeing him for the first time.

The enemy commander lay buried beneath collapsed rubble, motionless.

And yet, the air itself felt wrong.

Kael sensed it before anyone else.

A cold ripple moved through the battlefield, crawling across his skin like invisible fingers. His burning aura flickered as if challenged by an opposing force.

Slowly, the rubble began to shift.

Metal groaned. Stone cracked.

Then, with explosive force, the debris blasted apart.

The commander rose.

His armor was shattered, molten fractures glowing across its surface. One eye burned crimson while the other flickered with static light. Black energy poured from the seams of his body, warping the air around him.

"Impressive," he rasped. "You have crossed the threshold."

Kael narrowed his eyes. "You're still standing."

The commander straightened, rolling his shoulders as if testing damaged systems. "Barely. But now… I see it clearly."

His gaze locked onto Kael's chest, where the glowing mark beneath his torn shirt pulsed fiercely.

"The Radiant Blaze."

Silence rippled across the battlefield.

Aerin's breath caught. "He said it… the name…"

Kael stiffened.

That name.

He had heard fragments of it in stolen records, in whispers among the ruins, in half-corrupted data recovered from dead zones. But never spoken so clearly. Never with certainty.

The commander lifted his hand, black energy swirling around his fingers. "The lost core of creation. The spark that birthed the first stars. The power the Architects tried to erase from existence."

Lightning flashed, illuminating his twisted grin.

"And it lives inside you."

The world seemed to tilt.

Kael's mind raced, fragments of memory colliding visions of blinding light, collapsing worlds, endless voices calling his name.

Radiant Blaze.

The words echoed deep within his soul.

"What is it?" Kael demanded. "What did they do to me?"

The commander laughed softly. "You were never meant to exist. You are a vessel. A key. A final contingency."

Energy surged around him, dark tendrils lashing outward. "And now, you will awaken completely."

He vanished.

Kael barely reacted in time.

A shockwave detonated where he had been standing. Kael crossed his arms, fire roaring outward as he slid backward across molten ground. The commander reappeared mid-strike, his fist colliding with Kael's guard.

The impact shattered the street beneath them.

They shot into the air, clashing again and again, fire and darkness colliding in blinding bursts that tore open the sky.

Below, Aerin shouted, "He's drawing on void energy! Kael, don't let him stabilize it!"

Kael twisted midair, launching a blazing kick that sent the commander spiraling backward through the shell of a half-collapsed tower. He followed instantly, slamming through concrete and steel, driving his enemy deeper until the building collapsed around them.

Inside the ruins, darkness swallowed everything.

Only Kael's fire lit the chaos.

The commander emerged from the dust, coughing black smoke. "Your control is unstable. You're burning through your lifespan."

Kael clenched his fists. "I'll worry about that later."

He surged forward.

Their battle became a blur explosions tearing apart entire blocks, shockwaves flattening what little remained of the city. Each strike cracked reality itself, sparks of energy raining like dying stars.

Yet with every exchange, Kael felt it.

Something stirring.

A pressure building deep within his chest.

The mark began to burn.

Pain ripped through him.

He staggered midair, gasping.

The commander seized the opening, driving a void-forged blade into Kael's side. Agony exploded through his body as he crashed into the street, carving a trench across shattered pavement.

Kael coughed, blood darkening his lips.

The commander descended slowly, boots touching down inches from Kael's head. "You see? The Radiant Blaze rejects confinement. Your body is failing."

Kael tried to rise, but his muscles trembled violently.

"You cannot wield creation without paying its price."

The commander raised his hand, void energy condensing into a collapsing sphere. "This ends now."

Time slowed.

Aerin screamed his name.

Vex lunged forward.

Lira fired her blades.

None of it would reach him in time.

Kael stared at the swirling void, death spinning inches from his face.

And something inside him finally broke.

The pain vanished.

The fear dissolved.

Only light remained.

His heart thundered once.

Then

Everything exploded.

A pillar of pure radiance erupted from Kael's body, blasting upward into the storm clouds. The sky split open, lightning freezing in place as if reality itself had paused to watch.

The void sphere shattered instantly.

The commander was hurled backward, tumbling helplessly through the air.

Kael rose slowly, suspended within a storm of golden fire.

His eyes glowed like miniature suns.

The mark on his chest had fully awakened, blazing with ancient symbols that rotated and shifted endlessly. Radiant wings of energy unfurled behind him, each feather composed of burning starlight.

The battlefield fell silent.

Even the storm seemed to retreat.

Aerin whispered, "The Radiant Blaze…"

Kael felt everything.

The city.

The skies.

The deep pulse of the planet beneath his feet.

He could sense broken timelines, fractured dimensions, entire worlds trembling on the edge of collapse.

Creation sang through his veins.

He lifted his hand.

The air warped.

The commander slammed into the ground, pinned beneath invisible force, unable to move.

Fear flashed across his shattered face. "Impossible… the Architects sealed this power"

"They failed," Kael said quietly.

His voice echoed like thunder layered with countless others.

He descended, each step across open air leaving glowing sigils behind.

"You used me. You destroyed cities. You murdered millions chasing a power you couldn't control."

The commander snarled. "Without us, the Void will consume everything! We are the last defense!"

Kael's eyes softened, grief flickering through the blazing light. "Then you chose the wrong way to fight it."

He raised his hand.

The commander screamed as radiant energy flooded his body, tearing apart corrupted systems, burning away void contamination. His armor disintegrated, his weapon dissolving into harmless dust.

Then the light faded.

The commander lay unconscious, stripped of power.

Silence reclaimed the ruins.

Slowly, Kael's radiance dimmed. The wings folded inward, dissolving into flickering embers. The mark on his chest cooled, though it still glowed faintly beneath his skin.

Gravity reclaimed him.

He collapsed.

Aerin reached him first, catching his shoulders before his head struck the ground. "Kael! Stay with me!"

His breathing was shallow. His skin burned hot beneath her fingers.

Vex skidded to their side. "He's alive. Barely."

Lira knelt, fear plain on her face. "What was that power?"

Kael's eyes fluttered open.

"Radiant Blaze," he whispered.

The storm finally began to fade.

Clouds unraveled. Lightning retreated. Rain softened into gentle mist.

Above them, pale sunlight pierced through broken clouds, illuminating the shattered city in fragile gold.

Aerin exhaled shakily. "Then the legends were true."

Kael stared at the sky, exhaustion dragging at his limbs. "And now… they're coming."

Vex frowned. "Who?"

Kael closed his eyes.

"The ones who made me."

Far beyond New Eden, deep within the silent reaches of space, ancient machines awakened.

Eyes older than stars opened.

And somewhere in the void between dimensions, something vast and patient smiled.
