Chapter 242 - Chapter 242: The Wall Named Neuer! Two Saves That Defied Belief!

The twenty minutes following Müller's second strike produced the most suffocating, relentless football the Estádio da Luz had witnessed in decades.

All pretense of defensive caution vanished into the Lisbon air. Barcelona threw bodies forward with genuine abandon to find an equalizer, while Bayern refused to sit deep on their one-goal cushion. Guardiola simply didn't trust his side to park in front of their box against players of this caliber. The contest devolved into a wild, breathless sequence of waves crashing from box to box, each counter-attack carrying the weight of a title.

In the 64th minute, Bayern nearly wrapped up the trophy for good. Robben broke into green space down the right flank and drove an angled, stinging strike across Valdés. The ball beat the keeper's outstretched fingertips, shaving the paint off the far post before rolling wide into the advertising boards, pulling an audible gasp from all sixty-five thousand spectators.

Barely sixty seconds later, Barcelona responded in kind. Neymar gathered the ball wide on the left, chopped sharply inside to lose his marker, and whipped a dipping strike toward the top corner from twenty yards out. Neuer, caught wandering a few yards high, scrambled backward with desperate strides and threw his hand upward, tipping the leather over the crossbar by the width of a stud.

In the 69th minute, Bayern came knocking again. Kroos unleashed a thunderbolt from distance that Valdés could only parry into the crowded box. Müller lunged forward to pounce on the loose ball, but Piqué threw his entire body on the line to hack it away just in time.

The tempo was completely frantic. Neither midfield could retain the ball for more than a few touches before an interception triggered another sprint. Xavi, thirty-four years old and running on pure pride, covered grass with the hunger of a teenager. Bastian Schweinsteiger matched him stride for stride through every collision, two legendary orchestrators emptying their lungs in the final stretch of the club season.

Through the chaos, Lorenzo hunted for his opening.

He had found the net once with that looping strike Neuer couldn't track down, but Bayern had adapted fast. Whenever Lorenzo tried to take up a stance around the arc of the D, Lahm stepped across to close the passing corridor, Boateng pinched inward, or Neuer was already creeping out to cut down the angle. The pocket Martino had earmarked was turning into contested territory with every passing minute.

Then, in the 72nd minute, Lorenzo got his chance.

Iniesta slipped a pinpoint diagonal pass between two lunging red shirts, letting Lorenzo gather the ball in full stride right at the edge of the eighteen-yard box. With a quick flick of his laces, he set up his balance and snapped a low, driven shot toward the bottom left corner, mimicking the exact finish Neuer had denied with his fingertips early in the first half.

Neuer somehow got down to it again.

Dropping his large frame with staggering agility, the German keeper slammed a firm right palm against the turf, tipping the ball around the post for a corner. The entire Barcelona technical area stood up in unison, hands clapped against their faces in pure disbelief.

"NEUER SAVES IT AGAIN!" Santiago's voice tore through the speakers. "Lorenzo hits it with pure precision, but Neuer produces another world-class stop! For the second time tonight, he pulls off an impossible save right on the goal line! What is this man made of?"

The ensuing corner whipped into the crowded area. Piqué rose above Dante to thump a header toward the net, only for Neuer to parry it off the line with cat-like reflexes.

The rebound bounced straight out to Lorenzo, sitting completely unmarked eight yards from the goal with the net gaping wide open.

He drove his foot through the ball on the half-volley.

Neuer, still flat on his back from the previous dive, instinctively threw an arm into the air. The ball slammed squarely into his forearm with a muffled thud, looping harmlessly over the crossbar and onto the top netting.

A stunned hush swept through the Estádio da Luz, followed by a collective shout of sheer disbelief. Even the German supporters behind the goal stared with wide eyes. Two miraculous saves inside four seconds, the second executed from the grass against a forward who rarely missed from inside the box.

Lorenzo stood frozen in the six-yard box, his hands gripping his head as he stared down at the goalkeeper.

Neuer pushed himself off the turf, exhaled a deep breath, and casually dusted off his gloves. He gave two firm claps toward Boateng and Dante, organizing his backline for the corner as if he had merely collected an easy cross on a Tuesday afternoon.

"I don't think I have ever seen a keeper deny Lorenzo twice in the span of a single sequence," Inés said, her voice filled with genuine amazement. "Not once during this entire record-breaking campaign. Manuel Neuer has just done it in the Champions League final. No matter how this night finishes, that double save will live on European highlight reels for the next twenty years."

As Barcelona prepared to take the corner, Lorenzo walked back past the keeper toward the edge of the box.

Their eyes met for a long second.

"You're actually ridiculous, you know that?" Lorenzo muttered with a rueful shake of his head, wiping sweat from his face.

Neuer allowed the smallest hint of a grin to touch his lips, keeping his tone perfectly deadpan. "Just doing my job, kid. Keep shooting."

There was no malice in the exchange, just two elite athletes at the absolute peak of world football acknowledging each other amid the noise.

Lorenzo jogged out to reset his position as the referee blew his whistle to settle a scuffle in the box. The digital clock ticked past the 78th minute, with Bayern still clinging to their 3-2 advantage.

Time was evaporating fast for Barcelona.

Yet as Lorenzo looked around at Messi, Neymar, and the determined faces of his teammates, there was no resignation in their eyes. They had clawed back from two goals down already, and they were going to throw everything they had left at the remaining twelve minutes.
