Chapter 241 - Chapter 241: The Second Half War! Bayern Bare Their Teeth!

The second half unfolded exactly as Pep Guardiola had planned in the dressing room.

Whatever words he had delivered during the interval, the response was immediate. The brief flicker of vulnerability that had crept into the German side after conceding two quick goals was wiped away. Bayern returned to the pitch with their lines squeezed tight, their collective pressing dialed up, and a renewed intensity across every duel. They were treating the late first-half collapse as a momentary lapse that would not happen again.

Philipp Lahm took up a deeper station, clogging the central channel where Lorenzo had struck his equalizer. Jérôme Boateng and Dante operated shoulder-to-shoulder, refusing to let any central runners slip between them. Behind them, Manuel Neuer pushed his sweeping boundary even further upfield, practically daring Barcelona to hoist long clearances so he could clean them up with his head.

For the opening fifteen minutes of the half, the cage snapped shut once more.

Barcelona held onto the ball and cycled it with their usual rhythm, but the open transition lanes that had fueled their comeback were gone. Guardiola's midfield dropped into shape instantly whenever possession turned over, leaving no cheap yards to exploit.

"Bayern look thoroughly revitalized after the break," Santiago remarked from the broadcast booth. "Guardiola has clearly plugged those gaps in the half-spaces, and Barcelona are right back to circulating the ball without troubling the box."

Inés nodded in agreement. "This is precisely where the danger lies for Martino's side. When you dominate possession against a counter-attacking unit as lethal as Bayern, any loose touch in midfield leaves you exposed at the back. Barcelona cannot afford to lose focus for even a second, because Robben and Ribéry are lingering on the shoulder of the last defender."

Her warning proved prophetic.

In the 60th minute, that exact sequence punished Barcelona.

It initiated down Bayern's left flank through Franck Ribéry. The French winger took down a crisp pass from David Alaba and went straight at Dani Alves, who was scrambling to recover his defensive positioning after an overlapping run. Ribéry bypassed him without relying on raw footrace speed, using a subtle drop of the shoulder and a quick change of pace to buy an extra yard of separation along the touchline.

He picked his head up and spotted movement inside the six-yard box.

Thomas Müller had already timed his burst, slipping into the blind spot between Gerard Piqué and Javier Mascherano with the eerie spatial awareness that had tormented defenses for years.

Ribéry clipped a teasing, out-swinging cross toward the near post. Müller arrived a fraction of a second ahead of Mascherano, meeting the ball cleanly to glance a glancing header past a helpless Víctor Valdés into the far corner.

Bayern Munich led 3-2.

The German end of the Estádio da Luz erupted in a wall of red noise.

Müller broke into a wide grin, turning to point directly at Ribéry as the pair met near the corner flag to celebrate under a hail of cheers. Along the technical line, Guardiola pumped both fists with a roar of release, shouting hoarsely toward his midfield. The tactical adjustment had delivered its reward. Bayern had their noses in front once again.

"GOAL! THOMAS MÜLLER with his second of the night!" Santiago shouted over the rising volume. "Ribéry carves out the opening from the byline, and Müller applies the clinical touch! It is three-two to Bayern Munich!"

Inés broke down the goal as the replays rolled. "That is Müller's genius.. He simply waits until the defenders turn their heads toward the ball, and the moment their feet settle, he attacks the space in front of them. Ribéry puts the ball on a plate, and suddenly Barcelona are chasing this match from behind for the second time tonight."

Out on the pitch, Lorenzo stood by the center circle with his hands on his hips, taking a slow breath as he watched Bayern regroup.

Three-two down with half an hour on the clock.

Messi walked over to him, casually wiping sweat from his forehead with his sleeve. "We keep playing our football, Lorenzo. Same as before. They hit us, and we punch right back. All we need to do is put one more past them before ninety minutes are up."

Lorenzo gave a tight, determined nod. "They've already put three past us, Leo."

"Which means we will just have to score four," Messi replied smoothly, without a hint of doubt in his tone. "Thirty minutes is plenty of time out here. Let's get the ball moving."

Lorenzo glanced toward the illuminated stadium clock, then back at Neuer, who was already shouting instructions from outside his eighteen-yard box, massive and commanding.

Thirty minutes to solve that backline again.

Over on the Barcelona bench, Tata Martino finally stepped forward. He called Jorge Pautasso over, delivered a couple of quiet instructions, and had his assistant converse with the fourth official. A tactical substitution was being prepared, but Martino held the board for a moment longer. He wanted to see how his starting eleven reacted to the second deficit first.

The response was immediate.

From the restart, Barcelona poured forward with intent. Xavi stepped several yards higher into the opposing half to dictate the ball. Iniesta drifted between Bayern's lines, hunting for combination plays with Neymar. Across the front, Lorenzo, Neymar, and Messi pushed the defensive line with the relentless hunger of players staring at a dwindling clock.

Guardiola registered the shift immediately. He cut his celebrations short and returned to pacing the touchline, whistling loudly and shouting at his fullbacks to stay alert. He knew from experience that a Barcelona side playing with absolute desperation was the most volatile attacking force on the planet.

The final half-hour was turning into a complete war of attrition.
