I woke up in a hospital bed seeing doctors dash from left to right as a bright flashlight points down at my face, and the doctors were doing everything they could to save my life. A mask was placed on my nose and nostrils as I dozed off. When I finally came through, I remember feeling weak and helpless as I felt a sharp pain in my back and no sensation in my hips, leg or feet. A gruesome sight caught my attention on the TV as I saw the fatalities caused by the failed power plant helicopters everywhere, as police raided the scene as News Personnel broke The Shocking News to the world. There I Was Dumbfounded. My Body Was Covered in Scars And Bandages As I Saw People Being Pushed On Stretchers Left And Right And The Pain A lot Of Them Had To Endure. Being There And Seeing This Gave Me A Total Change Of Perspective In Life. I was The Proud Kid That Got What He Wanted In Life But A Patient Who Doesn't Know What's Going To Happen Next.
My Heart Sunk When I Saw My Dad's Face On The Screen. Apparently, He Didn't Survive The Blast. With What I learnt Later, He Dragged Me Out Of The Car And To Safety, But Went Back To Save As Many People As Possible. He Was Able To Get Some Of Our Guards And Scientists Out But Was Caught Up In The Explosion. I Felt Something I Haven't In My Entire Life. I Couldn't Explain It. I Was Proud My Dad Died A Hero, But I Couldn't Bare Losing Him As Tears Rolled Down My Cheeks. I Was Suddenly Snapped Back To Reality When A Doctor Came To Break More Bad News Seems I Spine Got Injured In The Crash And I May Never Be Able To Walk Again. I'd Be On A Wheelchair And Have A Cast Round My Neck For Months Till I'm Fully Recovered. I Insisted On Continuing My Treatment In The Comfort Of My Home, In Which They Agreed As My Dad's Guards Rushed In And Were All Happy To See That I Was Ok (For The Most Part).
I Returned Home As Everything Seemed Normal. The Maids were All Being Extra Kind And Guards Pushing Me On A Wheelchair. I Soon Ordered For An Electric Wheelchair As I Didn't Want Anyone Carrying Me Around Like A Vegetable. You May Be Asking Where Your Mom Was, Was Caught Up In The Explosion Too? Well, She Collapsed And Fell Into A Coma When The News Of My Dad's Passing Reached Her. I spent Days In My Room Reminiscing About Life And What I Should Do Next. The Family Lawyer Soon Came To Pay His Condolences While Reading Me My Father's Will. I Had Inherited Every Single Thing That Belonged To My Dad, Including The Company. Others Would've Been Thrilled, But I Couldn't Care less. That Company Led To My Father's Death.
Later That Night, I Picked Up My Phone, Scrolling Through Thousands Of Messages, Till I Saw A Notification Pop Up From A Blog. Guess What My Best Friend And My Ex Made Their Relationship Public? I Was Going Through A Very Hard Time And They Had No Care In The World. It Was Clear They Were In My Life Only To Use Me. I Switched Off The Phone As A Maid Came To Inform Me I Had A Visitor. I Wheeled Myself To The Living Room As I Saw The Least Person I Expected To See; My Cousin Kelvin I Dropped His Military Bag As He Squatted Down And Hugged Me. I Couldn't Help But Shed Tears As He Was Like A Big Brother To Me. As Soon As I Heard What Happened, I Decided To Fly Down. I'm so sorry, Tyler (he said). My Mom Is Caught Up In Some Serious Business But Will Come Down As Soon As Possible! He Added. Kelvin Was A Six-Foot Tall Muscular Dark Dude. I Always Thought He'd Go For Modeling Or Combat Spot As He Was A Formidable Boxer, But Nope. He Joined The Military Once He Turned 18. We Weren't Really Related By blood. As My Mom's Sister Adopted Him At A Young Age, He Was Always Flying From Country To Country For Business Trips, So Kelvin Usually Stayed With Us. We Grew Up Together And, As Earlier Mentioned, He Was Like A Brother To Me.
How're You Feeling? I Sadly Looked At Him Unable To Say A Single Word. Don't worry, bro, I'm Here Now And I'd Do Everything In My Power To Make Sure You're Standing On Your Feet Again. He Added that Before He Could Talk Further, We Heard The Doorbell Ring As The Maids Brought In A Package (The Electric Wheelchair I Ordered). Guess You're Beginning Your Mind Over Matter Arc, Kelvin Said Jokenly As We Bought Burst Into Laughter. It's Been The First Time I have Laughed Since This Predicament Occurred. He Helped Put Me On The New Wheelchair As I Pressed A Button, Propelling Myself Forward. Unlike The Old One, This Wheelchair Is Substantially Faster And Mobile. We Both Head Into My Mother's Room As We Saw Her Hooked Up To Life Support And An Oxygen Mask Fixed On Her Face. Kelvin Placed His Hands On My Shoulder, Comforting Me As I Went To Bed Subbing, Wishing It Was All A Dream And I Should Wake Up To Everything Being Back To Normal. I Promised To Make Amends.
Alas, A New Day Came And Like The Past Few Days, It Came With Its Own Troubles. The Board Of Management In My Father's Company (Olive Energy Corp) Wanted To See Me, As I've Been Made The New Head Of The Company, I'd Need To Address Them And Take Charge. I Can't Do It, I Can't Face Them. What Do I Say? What do I do? I'm not even close to half the man my dad was, nor do I know how to run a company? Kelvin gave me a stern look before speaking to me. Your father had faith in you and valued your life more than his. (He said) that's why he left everything to you. He wouldn't have done that if he didn't believe in you. You need to believe in yourself and transform this company into what you want it to be. And don't worry, I'll be there with you every step of the way if you're nervous. Consider me your personal bodyguard, he said, smiling. His Words Brought Comfort to my heart as I got into a suit and we both drove to O.E.C headquarters. The Attendant greeted me while Pointing Us To The Elevator, Instructing Us On What Room To Head To. I Was putting on Dark Shades And A Black Suit While Kelvin Was In A Suit Too, Looking Like A Highly Trained Secret Agent. We Finally Arrived At The Conference Room Where Men And Women Seating Round A Table Were Waiting For Us. Kelvin Opened The Glass Door As I Propelled Myself Inside, Taking My Position At The Head Of The Table.
An Elderly Woman Walked Up To Me Shaking My Hand And Introduced Herself As Mrs Winifred, The New Head Of Marketing Department On The Board. She Asked For Kelvin To Leave Us As We Were About To Discuss Serious Business, But I Declined, Stating That He's My Private Bodyguard And, With Recent Events And My Condition, I'd Prefer Him To Stay Close By. She Smiled Walking Towards A White Board As The Room Darkened And A Projector Showed A Graph On The Board. As She Started Explaining, Because Of Recent Events, Our Stock Has Dropped And Sales Are Flunking, Many News Outlets And Business Gurus Are Rejecting Us And This May Lead To Our Company Inevitably Ending. Press Releases Have Been Issued and a lot of funding has been paid to clear our name, but regardless, we need a change. So this is my offer to you; you're just a kid who doesn't know how business works. Sorry to say, you have three months to come up with an idea that would change and help boost the trajectory of the company, or you'd be voted out and your title relinquished. Anybody that has an issue with that can gladly raise their hand.
I sat there staring at the men and women in the conference room as they all kept their hands down supporting her notion. I got furious. What! I shouted, You're all going to sit there and say nothing? My father built this company and over my dead body would I let greedy snakes like you take it from me!
Kelvin tapped me. Signaling me to calm down, I stormed out of the room in my wheelchair as Kelvin faced the board and spoke: Forgive my boss' outburst, he is clearly emotional because of what he's been through. We'll get back to you, thanks. He finished as he walked after me. We drove back home as a wave of anger instigated in my heart. I couldn't let these people reap what they did not, so I'd do everything in my power to make sure my dad's company isn't taken away by them.
