Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 - Tristain - Realization

I pressed the spell for more information;

There are two types,

Offerings Blood Pact: An individual proposed a portion of their life force to a demon in return for strength. individuals can gain strength by these pacts. However, these are only temporary boosts of power which once the period ends, the user will lose 10 years of their life, or something of comparable value to the contracting demon..

Servant Blood Pact: Those afflicted by this curse gain strength in proportion to the demon casting the pact. At the cost of their freedom they become enslaved by the demon, becoming their ever devoted servant in perpetuity. If the servant were to have thoughts of betrayal the pact would activate and strangle the heart of the afflicted. Following the initialization of the pact a desire to please the demon will flood the servants mind, losing their own wants, desires, and dreams.

Requirements: Level must be below the casters. Holy Priests of the 5th evolution and above are immune.

I smirked, kinda cool that I can make deals, but I'm not sure I want to enslave anyone… this may be a game but I can't imagine when I would need that.

Below the two types of pacts was a skill.

Dragons Sight, this skill allows you to see the evolution, level, plus other details of enemies less than two evolutions above you.

Activate by channeling mana into your eyes.

This is great, now I can see the skills of those other adventurers, so I know who to and not to piss off.

Before I knew it I was ready for bed, even just starting this journey my head hurt and I was exhausted.

I wonder if going to sleep will sign me out. I'm exhausted and my jaw hurts something fierce. Will this pain come back when I log in again?..

I laid on the thatch bed with my head in my hands, I was surprisingly relaxed. The cool breeze from the window nearby the bed, the sounds of adventurers drinking merrily in the tavern below really made me calm and feel at home.

Far more than in the real world. This world, while filled with monsters and dangers everywhere, felt relaxing.

I slowly drifted into sleep.

In the darkness I began hearing the cries of people around me.

What is….

Suddenly I was in a dark room only lit by purple flamed torches.

I was in a large open room with dark stone floors, and a staircase in the center leading up to a throne.

Atop this throne sat a terrifyingly powerful being, I attempted to use my dragon's sight to see his level. I channeled mana into my eyes and he became clear. A tall humanoid with pointed ears, red of skin with purple eyes. Wearing a long tunic that was a mix of exotic white fur and black metal armor. I saw him glimpse my way from the corner of his eye.

A fierce stabbing pain was sent through my eyes, as if daggers were being twisted within them. I took a few steps back wiping my eyes to find blood streaming from the sides of them…

Is the difference really this large… what is going on.. it hurts! I need to be careful with this in the future…

I couldn't see his stats but his aura was oppressive; he was far too high leveled. Though I had a strange feeling of familiarity with this creature….

He yelled,

"Silence!"

I quickly noticed I wasn't alone, thousands surrounded me of varying species and even some beasts. Yet no humans….

Everyone stopped talking and it became clear, these were all the other players.

Many of theses were the different races I had seen in character creation and more.

The terrifying creature waved his hand and the room was covered in purple light. The room was revealed to be an amphitheater the size of the colosseum in Rome.

"By now I bet you're all wondering how to leave."

He began laughing maniacally,

"Well let me make it perfectly clear to all of you, or should I say what's left of you."

He grinned ear to ear but it only sent shivers down my spine.

"All of you are now citizens of Avaria, a world in a completely different universe from your own. We started with 20,000 of you scattered across this world. Now there are merely 16,000 more or less remaining. As the 4,000 who perished already realized."

He paused,

"This is no mere game. While the laws of this world are similar to what you called an RPG in your world, this is real."

People started to laugh,

"Right… is this some kind of event?!"

From another corner,

"I have work in the morning, let's get this over with so we can sign out."

The demon's face became stiff,

"Let me make one thing perfectly clear"

He snapped his fingers and some of those who had spoken out were engulfed in purple flames. Their screams of pain filled the room along with the smell of charred meat. The happy faces of those around me quickly shifted to a mixture of fear and confusion.

What is going on, is this some kind of joke? An event to scare the new players… right?

The Demon continued,

"In your home world, upon entering the "Game" you felt a searing pain yes?"

I started to grab at the back of my head where I felt the spikes before,

I did feel that.. I thought it was just normal when starting this advanced of a machine and paid it no mind.

"That was the magical device separating your soul from the body, sending your spirit to the character creation realm I so graciously provided. Leaving only a dead husk of a body behind. Some of you became similar versions of yourselves, some became monsters. Well let me tell you, you're stuck like that now. Muahahahah!"

I couldn't help but think of all the beast races that I glanced over.

You mean to say some people are stuck as lizardmen and goblins…. Even skeletons and liches…

Cries began to echo around the hall, a mixture of excuses to why they needed to go home and panic from those who were now realizing what had truly happened.

Families that had been abandoned would never see their loved ones again.

I could only stand in shock, my jaw dropped.

This can't be real right. This has to be a dream….

I slapped myself but didn't wake up. Only feeling intense pain where my jaw had been clocked the day before. I clutched my face,

Pain… if I can feel a punch, does that mean a sword or a spear would cause it as well..

The demon snapped his fingers sending a pulse of sound throughout the room, a visible purple wave of noise silencing everyone,

"I have brought you all here at your request, for if you didn't want to escape your lives in your previous world I would have left you. For if you'd said you were content, now, you would still be in your safe world rotting away. What I have given you is another chance at life, a better one where the strongest can rule the world. How exciting? Is it not?"

Every word from him felt like an extravagant performance, his cadence and tone made it feel as if his words were dancing throughout the colosseum. Even so, when I looked around me, I could see a mixture of emotions from the people and beasts, some were terrified but a select few were smiling.

I was one of those freaks… helplessly smiling that I didn't have to go back to the dull day job and I was now living my dream or what I thought my dream was.

The demon continued,

"you should be grateful, I've meticulously placed you all in…exciting places."

He stopped as if he was waiting for applause.

People looked around but no one said a word.

He continued,

"Tsk... Ungrateful beasts… All of you are scattered across this vast world, and the memories of your old will soon be as distant as forgotten dreams. I wish you the best of luck, and I look forward to seeing your evolution and/or demise. Muahahahhahah bye bye!"

With the wave of his hand the torches went out and the world went black.

I woke up, as if from a nightmare.

Yet this was no nightmare, I could tell, this was real.
