Chapter 2 - Four Years Ago

Jeju Island was quiet at night.

The party music was loud, but Min-hee felt empty.

She did not want to think.

So she kept drinking.

One glass… then another.

Her head became light.

She stepped outside for air.

Cold wind touched her face.

A man stood near the railing, looking at the sea.

His tie was loose.

He also looked drunk.

She tried to walk past him.

Their shoulders bumped.

She lost balance a little.

He held her arm.

They looked at each other.

No words.

Just a short moment between strangers.

She nodded softly.

He let go.

Later

She walked to her hotel room.

She was tired and dizzy.

She tapped her card on the door.

Red light.

Again.

Red light.

She saw it was open.

She walked inside and sat on the bed.

A few minutes later the door opened again.

The man walked in, unsteady from drinking.

He didn't notice her at first.

His steps were slow.

Then he lost balance.

He stumbled forward —

and fell onto the bed.

Onto her.

She gasped softly in surprise.

For a moment neither moved.

His hand was beside her shoulder, keeping him from pressing his full weight on her.

They were very close.

She could feel his warm breath.

He slowly lifted his head.

Their eyes met.

He didn't move away immediately.

She didn't push him away.

The room was silent.

Then they shared an passionate kiss.

The distance between strangers disappeared without either trying.

That night happened slowly.

Just two lonely people sharing warmth.

Next day morning, sunlight entered the room.

Min-hee woke up and looked around.

No one was there.

On the table there was only a hotel card and some money.

Her expression hardened.

"…So that's what it was."

She thought he was just a rich man who treated the night like nothing.

She left quietly.

Weeks later, she learned she was pregnant.

She tried once to find him.

Then she stopped.

Until today.
