Chapter 194 - Chapter 194: The Hidden Way to Ravenclaw Isle

'Knowing the sort of man he is, I should probably expect Sirius to visit once he gets out of the hospital,' Julian thought before setting the newspaper aside and informing Ollivander that he intended to go inspect the Ravenclaw island that day. "Oh? I assumed you would wait quite some time before looking into that place. What changed?" the old man asked with interest. "Dotty," Julian called, and the house-elf appeared immediately in front of him, eager for instructions. "Before yesterday, I would have needed help reaching that area, but now that I have a house-elf to transport us, getting there is much easier," Julian explained honestly.

Ollivander smiled. "House-elves are certainly convenient to have when traveling," he said in agreement. "The plan is for Dotty to take Helena to the coast near the island first, then come back for the two of us, or just me if you'd rather remain here," Julian said casually. Ollivander chuckled. "I would not miss the chance to see Rowena Ravenclaw's home for anything. The thought alone is enough to excite me," he said with clear eagerness. "Before any of that, though, we need a map of England so Dotty has an exact place to bring Helena," Julian said.

"Then fortune is with us, because I happen to have exactly that, though it is a little unusual," Ollivander said before reaching into a drawer behind the counter and pulling out an old scroll nearly two feet tall. When he unrolled it across the counter, Julian was surprised to see a live image of the entire island, complete with cities, clouds, and accurate terrain. "Wow, that is some seriously impressive enchanting. How did they make the weather function that well without ruining the paper?" Julian asked as he watched rain falling over parts of the image.

Ollivander shook his head. "Much as I appreciate your enthusiasm, I cannot take credit for the enchantments on this. I bought the map during my younger years while traveling, from an Egyptian wizard in the magical market of Cairo," he said with a nostalgic expression. Julian was surprised to hear that, because an enchantment this complex should normally have failed long ago without some sort of power source or anchor, yet he could detect neither. "If that is true, then it really is masterful work, because it seems to be missing the things something like this would normally need to last so long," Julian said appreciatively.

With that settled, Ollivander closed the shop, and Helena came over to the map after Dotty fetched her from the room. After studying it carefully, she pointed to a location on the southwestern edge of England, across from Plymouth near the Celtic Sea. Dotty memorized the details of that area, then took hold of Helena once she turned corporeal and vanished from the shop. Ten minutes later, the house-elf returned and this time grabbed Ollivander before disappearing again.

A minute later, Dotty reappeared and took Julian as well before vanishing from the store. As it turned out, traveling by house-elf apparition was vastly easier on the body than wizard apparition. Julian had the sneaking suspicion that this was because wizard apparition was simply less refined, since wizards had probably relied on house-elves for transport so often in the past. Other than a little dizziness, he felt almost nothing from the trip, and they arrived at a stretch of coastline lined entirely with sheer cliffs. 'The salty sea air and warm weather would make this a perfect place for a picnic if nothing else,' Julian thought with a grin.

"As much as I appreciate the view, I would like to know how exactly we are supposed to find this hidden island you mentioned," Julian said, raising his voice to be heard over the wind and crashing waves. Helena grinned and beckoned him over to a moss-covered boulder that blended perfectly into the landscape near the cliff's edge. Curious, he walked over to see what she had in mind, and after becoming corporeal, she brushed the moss away from a certain part of the stone to reveal a very familiar indentation. Julian was left speechless at the sight, because he could hardly believe that Rowena Ravenclaw had hidden the key to her home so openly in plain view.

When he pressed his signet ring into the indentation, he felt his magic begin to pour out of him into the ring and then into the stone in massive quantities. The surge startled him enough that he nearly pulled his hand back, if not for Helena stopping him. "It has gone without fuel for a thousand years, but it will not need nearly so much next time," she explained, and he relaxed. Thankfully, the stone stopped drawing power after draining about half of his entire magical reserve. It also felt very different through his magical senses now, because it had become filled with a headache-inducing amount of enchantments.
