Cassian didn't step an inch further than he was permitted.
He stood frozen in front of the closed door, his gaze locked onto Chester, who was in the middle of peeling off his heavy travel coat. The fabric slid from his shoulders, revealing the sharp, tense lines of his frame beneath a tailored white shirt.
Chester hung the coat neatly over a mahogany hook and turned back to face Cassian, his fingers moving purposefully to undo the first three buttons at his collar, exposing the pale hollow of his throat.
"Why are you standing there like a statue?" Chester questioned, his brow furrowing as he crossed his arms.
Cassian blinked, caught off guard. "You haven't asked me to—"
"Or perhaps you don't actually want to talk with me?" Chester cut him off, his voice sharpening with defensive pride. "Was I wrong for inviting you in?"
