Elian followed Charity, the familiar maid Rowena had asked to poison his bathwater the first time he was here.
She led him toward the royal wing, chatting about being happy to see him again, but his mind wasn't present.
His mind was thinking about what Lucien would be doing in Rowena's chambers. She had invited him, and he had gone.
He had promised he wouldn't attend to her again, yet he followed her to her chamber.
"This is your chamber, sir," Charity said, pausing beside the dark wood door.
"Good night, Charity," Elian said and slid through the door, shutting it before she resumed talking.
He leaned against the door, gritting his teeth.
