Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 10,11,12

CHAPTER 10 — Collateral

Chen Rui never considered himself important.

He was efficient. Invisible. Replaceable.

Which made him the perfect target.

It happened at 9:40 PM.

On his way home, a black sedan blocked his car at a quiet intersection. Two men stepped out. Polite suits. Expressionless faces.

"Assistant Chen," one of them said calmly. "Chairman Shen would like to have tea."

Chen Rui forced a smile. "I don't drink tea with strangers."

The man leaned down slightly.

"You should."

Inside a private villa owned by Shen Jinhai, the atmosphere was calm.

Too calm.

Chen Rui sat across from him, hands restrained but posture upright.

Shen Jinhai poured tea slowly.

"You are loyal to Li Zheng Yuan," he observed.

"Yes."

"Even knowing what he's been doing at night?"

Chen Rui's heart skipped.

Shen Jinhai smiled.

"You see… I don't need to attack him directly."

He slid a tablet across the table.

Security footage.

Blurry.

But enough.

A tall figure entering a Yonghe property at 2:03 AM.

Chen Rui's face drained of color.

Shen Jinhai leaned closer.

"Tell your CEO to stop hunting me."

A pause.

"Or I will start hunting what he values."

Golden Crown — Midnight.

Gu Wei Chen received the news first.

One of his informants spotted Chen Rui being taken.

He didn't hesitate.

"Prepare the cars."

Zhao Ming frowned. "You're intervening?"

"Yes."

Han Lu studied him carefully. "Why?"

Gu Wei Chen's voice lowered.

"Because Shen Jinhai just crossed into something that belongs to him."

"And?"

"And I don't allow others to touch what's connected to me."

Meanwhile.

Li Zheng Yuan stood in his office.

His phone vibrated.

A single image.

Chen Rui tied to a chair.

No message.

Just a chess piece beside him.

A rook.

His breathing slowed.

Too slow.

Inside his mind—

The darkness moved.

He dares.

His reflection smiled.

Good.

The temperature in the room felt like it dropped ten degrees.

When he spoke, his voice wasn't entirely his own.

"Prepare the car."

CHAPTER 11 — The Villa

Shen Jinhai expected anger.

He did not expect precision.

The villa's power cut at exactly 12:14 AM.

Backup generators failed thirty seconds later.

Security cameras looped.

Xu Kai's work.

But the entry?

That was personal.

Mo Jian neutralized the outer guards silently.

Gu Wei Chen entered through the front door.

Li Zheng Yuan entered through the dark.

They did not speak.

They did not need to.

Inside the study, Shen Jinhai remained seated.

Impressive composure.

"You came together," he observed calmly.

Gu Wei Chen stepped forward.

"You took the wrong person."

Shen Jinhai's gaze shifted to Li Zheng Yuan.

"And you."

Li Zheng Yuan's eyes were different tonight.

Not corporate.

Not restrained.

Predatory.

"You wanted my attention," Li Zheng Yuan said softly.

"You have it."

Suddenly—

A gunshot echoed.

One of Shen Jinhai's guards collapsed behind them.

But Li Zheng Yuan didn't move.

He was focused only on Shen Jinhai.

Chen Rui was found in the adjacent room, shaken but alive.

Zhao Ming escorted him out.

Leaving three men in the study.

Shen Jinhai stood slowly.

"You think eliminating my executives will collapse me?"

Li Zheng Yuan tilted his head slightly.

"No."

He stepped closer.

"I'm not collapsing you."

A pause.

"I'm isolating you."

For the first time—

Shen Jinhai's calm expression shifted.

Just slightly.

Gu Wei Chen noticed.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

Because this was not impulsive violence.

This was systematic dismantling.

Shen Jinhai smiled thinly.

"You're enjoying this."

Li Zheng Yuan's lips curved faintly.

"Yes."

CHAPTER 12 — The Line Crossed

The villa incident never reached the news.

Money silenced it.

Fear buried it.

But something had changed.

Chen Rui stood in the office the next morning.

"You shouldn't have come personally," he said quietly.

Li Zheng Yuan adjusted his cufflinks.

"I don't delegate threats."

Chen Rui hesitated.

"Sir… you're changing."

A pause.

Li Zheng Yuan looked at him.

Not cold.

Not warm.

Just unreadable.

"Change is necessary for survival."

After Chen Rui left—

The reflection in the glass spoke again.

He almost died because you hesitated.

"I didn't hesitate."

You will next time.

Silence.

Then—

A knock at the door.

Gu Wei Chen entered without announcement.

"You crossed a line last night," he said calmly.

"So did you."

Gu Wei Chen stepped closer.

"You're not just defending anymore."

"No."

"You're escalating beyond strategy."

Li Zheng Yuan's gaze darkened slightly.

"I warned him."

Gu Wei Chen studied him carefully.

"You're becoming dangerous."

A quiet beat.

Li Zheng Yuan leaned in just slightly.

"I've always been dangerous."

Their proximity was deliberate.

Tense.

Not enemies.

Not allies.

Something far more unstable.

Gu Wei Chen lowered his voice.

"If you lose control, I will stop you."

For the first time—

A faint, genuine smile appeared on Li Zheng Yuan's face.

"Try."

Across the city—

Shen Jinhai stood before a new chessboard.

He removed the rook.

Placed a queen.

And whispered softly—

"Very well, Li Zheng Yuan."

"If you want war without rules…"

"Let's remove the board entirely."

Shanghai glittered peacefully.

But beneath the skyline—

Three minds were calculating.

One manipulator.

One hunter.

One possessive predator.

And the line between protection and obsession…

Was disappearing.
