Chapter 1 - Unnamed

Story of Emptiness

(A Long Lament of an Unfinished Love)

Adi was 22.

Shilpa was only 17.

They were relatives by blood— bound in a relationship like brother and sister.

But does the feeling that grows inside the heart ever follow rules?

They grew up together.

Running in the same courtyard,

Sitting under the same mango tree telling stories,

Resting their heads on the same book pages, dreaming of the future.

At first, they were just friends.

Then one day— suddenly—

When their eyes met, something strange trembled inside their chests.

Shilpa couldn't understand why her hands shook whenever Adi came close.

Adi couldn't understand why his heart burned whenever Shilpa spoke to someone else.

One rainy afternoon, Shilpa suddenly asked—

"Adi, what if one day I leave you and go away?"

Adi smiled softly and said—

"If you go, I won't survive."

They didn't realize then that those words would one day return like a curse.

Their love was like a hidden fire.

No one knew, but inside it burned fiercely.

Society, relationships, blood ties—

They knew it was wrong.

Yet they couldn't imagine a world without each other.

Finally, one day they decided—

They would run away, leaving everything behind.

Somewhere far away, where no one knew them.

A small rented house,

A tiny kitchen,

One bed,

And two people.

To them, that was heaven.

For a few days, they truly lived like a dream.

Making tea together in the morning,

Sitting on the roof at night watching the stars,

Choosing names for their future child.

Shilpa would laugh, and Adi would think—

There is no greater happiness in the world than this

But happiness never lasts forever.

One day, everything reached Shilpa's family.

Phone location, someone spotting them,

Or perhaps fate's cruel game.

A storm rose in her house.

Her father said in a stern voice—

"This relationship is a sin. We cannot face society. End this today."

Shilpa was crying.

In her eyes— fear, shame, love— all mixed into a helpless gaze.

She called Adi.

In a trembling voice she said—

"We can't continue, Adi… I can't… Father told me to leave you…"

Adi fell silent.

It felt as if all sound around him had suddenly stopped.

He only said—

"You said you couldn't live without me…"

On the other side, there was only the sound of crying.

Then the call disconnected.

That very day, Shilpa returned home.

She didn't look back even once.

Adi's world stopped that day.

Every corner of the room held Shilpa's memories.

The mark of her lips on a cup,

Her hair clip lying on the table,

A picture of them together on the wall.

At night, he couldn't sleep.

Her "Stay well" echoed again and again in his ears.

He stopped eating.

He ignored his friends' calls.

He got lost inside himself.

One night, he stood at the edge of the roof.

Below— a dark road.

A slight chill in the air.

He felt—

One jump and everything would end.

No more pain,

No more emptiness.

Tears filled his eyes.

He whispered—

"Shilpa, if you're not here, how will I live?"

But just then, he remembered his mother's face.

Childhood memories—

His mother holding him and saying, "You are my reason to live."

Suddenly he understood—

Life doesn't stop when one person leaves.

But if he leaves,

Many lives will shatter.

Slowly, Adi stepped down from the railing.

He sat on the floor and cried uncontrollably.

He didn't die that night.

But something inside him truly did.

Years have passed.

Shilpa is married now.

She lives in someone else's household.

Maybe she smiles. Maybe she tries to be happy.

Adi is still alone.

He works, talks to people,

He smiles— but inside his smile there's a hollow sound.

Every year on Shilpa's birthday,

He looks up at the sky and finds a star.

In his heart he says—

"Stay well. I kept my promise… I'm still alive."

The emptiness inside his chest—

It was never filled.

Love is not always attained.

Sometimes it loses to society.

Sometimes it gets trapped within the walls of relationships.

But love doesn't always kill a person—

It changes them from within.

---

Final Words

Emptiness doesn't always make noise.

Sometimes it silently makes a person cry.

Adi is alive.

But a part of him stopped forever—

The part that existed only for Shilpa.

This is the story of emptiness.

A long sigh of an unfinished love. 💔
