Chapter 1 - Glow up era

They say heartbreak changes people.

I just didn't know mine would happen on a random Friday night.

I wasn't supposed to be there.

If I had stayed home like I planned…

If I had ignored the weird feeling in my chest…

If I had trusted him just a little more…

Maybe everything would still be the same.

But I didn't.

And that was my first mistake.

The party was louder than I expected.

Music blasted through the walls, bass shaking the floor beneath my feet. People were everywhere — laughing, dancing, living like nothing in the world could hurt them.

I stood at the entrance for a moment, suddenly unsure.

This wasn't really my scene.

But he had insisted.

"Come on, babe. It'll be fun."

I should've known.

Nothing good ever starts with those words.

I pulled out my phone.

No new messages.

I frowned.

He was the one who told me to come, yet he wasn't answering.

Typical.

Still, I smiled to myself.

He was probably inside somewhere, waiting to surprise me.

That's just who he was.

Or at least… who I thought he was.

"Looking for someone?"

I turned at the voice.

It was one of his friends, leaning against the wall with a smirk I couldn't quite read.

"Yeah," I said softly. "Have you seen him?"

Something flickered in his eyes.

Something strange.

But it disappeared too quickly for me to understand.

"He's… around," he said slowly.

Around?

That was a weird way to put it.

A knot formed in my stomach.

I told myself I was overthinking.

I always overthink.

So I walked deeper into the party.

Past strangers.

Past laughter.

Past people who would later pretend they didn't see anything.

If I had known what I was walking into…

I would've turned back.

I would've run.

I saw them before they saw me.

And in that moment, the world didn't shatter.

It didn't explode.

It just… stopped.

Like someone hit pause on my entire life.

Because there he was.

My boyfriend.

The boy who held my hand like I was fragile.

The boy who called me at midnight just to hear my voice.

The boy I loved more than I loved myself.

And in his arms…

Was my best friend.

Her hands were tangled in his shirt.

His lips were on hers.

And they looked so… comfortable.

Like this wasn't new.

Like this wasn't a mistake.

Like I was the only one who didn't know.

I didn't scream.

I didn't cry.

I didn't even move.

I just stood there, frozen, watching the two people I trusted most destroy me without even realizing it.

Or maybe…

They did realize.

Maybe they just didn't care.

Then she opened her eyes.

And she saw me.

The color drained from her face instantly.

His back stiffened.

Slowly, he turned.

And when our eyes met…

That's when it finally hit me.

Not the cheating.

Not the betrayal.

Not even the heartbreak.

But the truth.

I had been the only fool in this story.

And right then, in the middle of the loudest party of the year…

I felt something inside me break.

Not loudly.

Not dramatically.

Just quietly.

Like a promise I didn't even know I made to myself…

Finally dying.
