Chapter 6 - CH- 2 Fumiko and Admission Notification [Part 3]

Part 3

One of the inconveniences of a tower mansion is that checking the mail is a hassle... I wish they'd just deliver it to my room... Ah, but then there'd be no point security-wise.

Looking inside the mailbox, mixed in with direct mail for the wealthy... was one unfamiliar envelope. The writing on it said... "U.A. High School."

Gasping softly, I stuff the small envelope into my jogging pants pocket and return to my room.

Back in the living room... feeling a bit nervous, as expected, I open it, likely the pass/fail notification.

However, what came out was... a small circular machine.

Puzzled, I place it on the table, and though I don't know what triggered it, suddenly light emanates from the center of the machine... and an image appears in the air...

"I am here as a projection!"

"...Huh!?"

What was projected there was... a celebrity so famous that you could say there's no one in this country who doesn't know him.

The superstar who reigns, and continues to reign, at the pinnacle of the mixed-quality, numerous heroes... the No.1 Hero "All Might" himself.

Though he was clad in an ordinary office worker-like suit for some reason, instead of the skin-tight hero suit reminiscent of American comics that you often see on TV. His chest muscles look like they're about to burst the suit, is it a costume?

Wait... Huh, why is this... All Might in a letter from U.A. (though it's not paper)?

With three or four "?" floating in my head, the projected All Might in front of me said several things.

First, regarding my pass/fail judgment. This was an unquestionable pass. My entrance exam score was second place overall... meaning I was ranked 2nd. Apparently, I was first among the girls... so the top spot was some boy, whoever he is.

...Well, my inner self is male too.

And apparently, in that exam, besides the "Villain Points" obtainable by defeating enemies, there also existed something called "Rescue Points" that you could get by helping other examinees... I didn't know. So that existed.

Since I didn't perform any corresponding actions, I had zero points in that category. I was told that ranking this high with just points from defeats is amazing, but if possible, I should try to be more aware of my surroundings from now on. Sorry.

And another piece of news. Apparently, All Might was going to work as a teacher at U.A.... That's big news. The media won't leave that alone.

And yet another one. Apparently, they want me to give the new student representative speech at the entrance ceremony. Seriously?

Isn't that something the valedictorian usually does?

"Ah, while there is indeed a different exam valedictorian, you had the top score on the written test. Moreover, the valedictorian was deemed... ahem... rather unsuitable for this kind of thing. Anyway, I'm counting on you!"

This is a recording, right?

He responded at the perfect timing, answering my question... Wait, what kind of person is the valedictorian? Unsuitable... like being quiet? Or maybe they have a Quirk that makes them bad at speaking in front of groups?

"Come, Fumiko girl... this is your Hero Academia!"

With those words, the video playback ended, and the machine fell silent.

...Well, anyway, I passed... that's great.

I thought I'd be fine, but it's still nice to properly see the results like this.

(But... is U.A. preparing one of these for every person? Even if it's just for the successful applicants, for the Hero Course... I think there were 36 from the general exam? Did All Might record one for everyone? ...He must be exhausted.)

Impressed by the work ethic of the No.1 Hero who never neglects fan service, and by U.A.'s generosity in preparing these machines, which likely aren't cheap, even if not extremely expensive, just for these few minutes, I picked up my phone that had been charging.

First things first, contact Mom and the others back home.

Then... I need to find time to think about the freshman representative greeting. There's a lot to do.

Thinking that far... something suddenly occurred to me.

(If there's something like Rescue Points... that boy from back then could have totally passed, right?)

I vaguely recalled that timid-looking, yet in that moment more heroic than anyone else, boy with the messy green hair I saw on exam day.
