Chapter 1 - “The First Glance That Changed Everything”

Seoul National University stood quietly beneath the pale morning sky. The new semester was only two days away, yet the campus had already begun to fill with life — rolling suitcases, excited chatter, and the scent of fresh beginnings.

Through the grand university gates walked a girl named Su An.

She carried a medium-sized suitcase in one hand and a small handbag on her shoulder. There was something soft about her presence — not loud, not attention-seeking, yet impossible to ignore. She wore light makeup that only enhanced her natural features. Her steps were careful, slightly hesitant, as if she was stepping into an entirely new world.

A gentle breeze brushed against her hair, and for a brief second, she paused to look around the campus. Her eyes shimmered with a mix of excitement and nervousness.

A few feet away, under the shade of a large tree, a group of boys were sitting on a bench.

Li Yuan was the first to notice her.

He leaned forward slightly and muttered, "Wow… she's really good-looking."

Another boy beside him lazily lifted his gaze. That boy was Shen Mo.

Li Yuan smirked. "Brother Shen, look at that newcomer. She's even prettier than the campus queen."

But when he turned to tease him further, his smile froze.

Shen Mo wasn't blinking.

His usually indifferent eyes were fixed on the girl walking through the gates.

"Brother Shen…?" Li Yuan waved a hand in front of him. "You're staring at a girl? Is our cold brother finally melting?"

Shen Mo slowly shifted his gaze toward Li Yuan. The look he gave him was enough to make Li Yuan shut his mouth instantly.

Without another word, Shen Mo stood up.

The casual atmosphere around the bench suddenly felt different.

Yi Kuan whistled softly. "Guys, I think we're about to get a sister-in-law."

The group burst into quiet laughter.

"Let's not disturb Brother Shen and our future sister-in-law," Li Yuan said dramatically.

Meanwhile, Shen Mo walked straight toward Su An.

Su An was adjusting her grip on her suitcase when a shadow fell beside her.

"Hey, junior."

She turned slightly, startled.

"My name is Shen Mo. I'm a second-year student. You're new here, right? Where are you going? Let me help you."

Before she could fully react, he gently took her suitcase from her hand.

Su An blinked once, then quickly bowed her head slightly. "Hello, senior. I'm Su An… a fresher from the Finance Department. Thank you… um… could you please show me the department building?"

Her voice was soft. A little shaky.

Shen Mo noticed it immediately.

He noticed the way her fingers lightly tightened around the strap of her bag.

The way her eyes avoided direct contact.

The faint nervousness hidden beneath her polite smile.

And in that moment, something inside him softened.

His expression, which was usually cold and unreadable, changed.

He gave her a very gentle smile — the kind of smile that felt warm, reassuring, and unexpectedly tender. It wasn't the smile he showed his friends. It wasn't teasing or sarcastic.

It was sincere.

"Don't worry," he said quietly. "I'll take you there."

For some reason, Su An felt her nervousness lessen just a little.

They began walking side by side.

The distance between them wasn't too close, yet not too far either. The air felt strangely calm. Shen Mo slowed his pace slightly so she wouldn't have to rush. Neither of them spoke much, but the silence didn't feel awkward.

When they reached the Finance Department building, Shen Mo stopped near the entrance.

"Junior," he said, looking at her, "if you ever need help in the future, you can come to me."

Su An looked up at him properly this time. "Thank you, senior."

A faint pink tint colored her cheeks.

Shen Mo's lips curved slightly again. "If you really want to thank me… how about treating me to lunch at the cafeteria?"

Su An's eyes widened for a second, surprised by his sudden playfulness.

"Sure," she replied softly. "I'll treat you tomorrow."

"Good," he said. "Let's add each other on WeChat first."

They exchanged their IDs and added each other.

As Su An walked toward the building entrance, she could feel his gaze following her.

Something made her pause.

She turned back.

Shen Mo was still standing there.

When their eyes met again, he raised his hand and waved lightly. This time, there was a small but unmistakable softness in his expression.

Su An smiled back — a genuine one — before disappearing inside.

Shen Mo remained there for a few seconds longer than necessary.

For someone known for his cold and distant personality, he didn't understand why his heart had reacted so differently today.

Perhaps it was the nervous way she spoke.

Or the innocence in her eyes.

Or maybe… it was simply fate.

And just like that, without either of them realizing it, a quiet story had begun — one that would slowly change both their worlds.
