Chapter 14 - A Whispered Warning

Chapter 13 — A Whispered Warning

The morning light barely filtered through the thick curtains of Lina's room. Despite the calm exterior of the mansion, a cold unease gnawed at her. Her hands shook slightly as she noticed a small envelope tucked beneath the door.

She picked it up, hesitating, and slowly opened it. Inside was a single sheet of paper, the words written in elegant, precise handwriting:

"Trust no one. Not even those closest to you. Someone in the mansion wants more than secrets… they want control. Watch carefully, Miss Lina."

Her stomach twisted. The intruder from last night had escalated, leaving a warning that was impossible to ignore.

Heart pounding, Lina wrapped the note in her fingers and left for the study. Adrian was there, seated behind the massive mahogany desk, reviewing a stack of documents. He looked calm, almost untouchable, as always.

"Sir…" Lina said cautiously, placing the note on the desk. "Someone left me this."

Adrian picked it up, scanning the words with a sharp, unreadable expression. Then his eyes lifted to meet hers. His gaze was cold, commanding, and unmistakably serious.

"They're escalating," he muttered. "And now, they're testing you."

Lina swallowed hard. "How do I… stop it?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

"You survive," Adrian replied simply. "Observe, learn, and never show fear. That is your only weapon in this house. Remember that."

Lina nodded, though her hands trembled slightly. She had thought the mansion was a place of luxury and order. Now, it was a labyrinth of secrets and unseen threats, and she was trapped in the center of it.

As she left the study, she felt a subtle movement near the window. A shadow flickered just beyond the glass. Lina's heart skipped a beat.

Someone was watching her again — closer than ever.

And for the first time, Lina realized that her safety depended on more than obedience or learning etiquette. It depended on caution, awareness, and the ability to think several steps ahead of everyone else.

The mansion was no longer a home. It was a battlefield. And every step she took could draw the attention of the unknown enemy waiting in the shadows.

Lina pressed her back against the wall, breathing deeply, and tried to steady her racing heart. She would survive. She had to.

But deep down, she knew this was only the beginning.

The whisper of danger lingered in every corner. And the next move could change everything.
