Chapter 2: Lightning and Lies
Raze ran.
His boots slammed against metal as he sprinted across the rooftops of Neo City. Sirens echoed behind him, and thunder rolled above.
Kelvinpro chased him like a bolt of living lightning.
"Stop running!" Kelvinpro shouted. Electricity burst from his feet, launching him forward.
Raze glanced back and sneered. "You really think I'm scared of you?"
He leapt across a gap between buildings. Kelvinpro followed, landing with a crash that sent sparks across the roof.
Raze spun and threw a blast of red energy. Kelvinpro raised his arm, the shield on his suit glowing blue as the blast exploded against it.
"Why do you keep betraying them?" Kelvinpro asked. "They trusted you."
Raze's smile faded for just a second.
"Trust makes you weak," he said. "I learned that the hard way."
He slammed his hand into the roof, and hidden drones rose from the shadows, their eyes glowing red.
Kelvinpro cracked his knuckles. "Bad choice."
Lightning surged from his hands. One by one, the drones dropped from the sky, smoking as they hit the ground.
Raze tried to escape again—but Kelvinpro moved faster.
In a flash of light, Kelvinpro appeared in front of him and grabbed his arm.
"It's over," Kelvinpro said.
Raze struggled, then suddenly laughed. "You think this is the end?"
He pressed a button on his wrist. The building began to shake.
Kelvinpro's eyes widened. "You planted explosives?"
"Insurance," Raze replied. "I never trust my team… or my enemies."
The roof cracked beneath them.
Kelvinpro released him and leapt back toward the edge.
Raze fell through a hole in the roof and vanished into the darkness below.
Kelvinpro stood in the rain, fists clenched.
Below, Mira and the others watched from the street as emergency lights flashed around them.
Kelvinpro looked down at them and whispered,"I won't let him hurt anyone else."
But deep in the shadows, Raze was already planning his next betrayal.
