Chapter 1 - "WHEN WE WERE SEVENTEEN"

Chapter 5: The Return

Five years later.

Nandini stood at a press conference event in Delhi, now a confident young reporter.

And the chief guest walking onto stage?

Arjun Mehra.

IIT graduate. Startup founder. Guest speaker.

Their eyes met across a crowded hall.

Just like when they were seventeen.

After the event, he walked up to her.

"You still think two marks don't define intelligence?" he teased.

She smiled, eyes shining.

"You still scared of not being enough?"

He shook his head.

"Not anymore. Because I realized something."

"What?"

"You were never a distraction."

He paused.

"You were my strength."

The words carried years of growth.

Years of waiting without calling it waiting.

Chapter 6: Soulmates Don't Always Leave

Their families had changed too.

Time softens strict hearts.

Arjun's father had seen his son succeed without losing focus.

Nandini's mother had seen her daughter build a name for herself.

This time, when they spoke about marriage, there wasn't shouting.

There were discussions.

Understanding.

Acceptance.

On a winter evening back in Kolkata, under soft golden lights, Arjun held her hand again — just like at seventeen.

"Back then, I thought love would ruin my career," he said.

"And I thought career would take you away from me," she replied.

He smiled.

"Turns out, soulmate doesn't mean choosing one over the other."

"It means growing separately… and still choosing each other."

He knelt down — not dramatically, just sincerely.

"Marry me, Nandini. Not because we were teenage lovers. But because we survived becoming adults."

Tears slipped down her cheeks.

"Yes."

Epilogue

Love at seventeen feels confusing. Messy. Intense.

But sometimes, it's not just a phase.

Sometimes, it's the beginning of a lifelong partnership.

They weren't perfect teenagers.

They fought. They doubted. They almost gave up.

But passion turned into patience. Infatuation turned into respect. And confusion turned into clarity.

Because soulmate isn't the one who stays when life is easy.

It's the one who grows with you — through family drama, career pressure, and the fear of losing each other.
