Chapter 9 - Chapter 7: Gravity Pulse vs Devil Blood

The night air was thick and heavy, tinged with the scent of ozone and dust. The academy grounds, usually calm under the moonlight, were now filled with a sinister crimson glow.

Kael Draven's Devil Stone hovered above his palm, pulsing like a heartbeat. Dark energy leaked from it, twisting into sharp tendrils that slashed through the empty training yard.

Dominic Feyron and Lyra Windvale stood side by side. Dominic's right hand glowed faintly with gravitational energy, while Lyra's wind aura danced around her silver hair, forming protective barriers.

"This guy really doesn't know how to give up," Dominic muttered.

Lyra's green eyes narrowed. "He's a Devil Stone user. One attack from him and we're both done if we're not careful."

Dominic nodded, a mischievous grin forming on his face. "Good thing I have a tiny cosmic cheat hidden in my soul."

Kael roared, releasing a surge of crimson energy. His Crimson Blood Fang attack ripped through the air, sharp tendrils twisting and turning toward the duo.

"Lyra, cover me!" Dominic shouted. He flicked his wrist, and a subtle ripple of Gravity Pulse emitted from his hand. The tendrils of energy bent slightly, enough to slow them down.

Lyra smirked. "Piece of cake." She spun gracefully, Wind Blade cutting into the slowed tendrils, sending them scattering harmlessly into the ground.

Dominic felt a brief surge from the Cosmic Stone inside him. The gravity around his body rippled like water. For a fleeting moment, it felt like his power was no longer limited.

…That's new, he thought, eyes widening slightly.

Kael's expression shifted from confident to shocked. "Impossible… how is this happening?!"

During the fight, Dominic took a misstep while trying to calculate the next gravitational wave. His foot caught on a stone, sending him stumbling forward—right into Lyra's chest.

Both froze.

Dominic's face turned crimson. "…Uh… sorry…" he mumbled, backing up as fast as he could.

Lyra's green eyes sparkled, and she let out a soft laugh. "Careful, Dominic. You might actually land on me if you're not paying attention."

The wind around her swirled playfully, almost teasing him.

Dominic swallowed nervously. "…I-I was just… uh… testing your reflexes?"

Lyra tilted her head, smirking. "Testing my reflexes? You're lucky it wasn't more than a test."

Dominic muttered under his breath: Lucky? I think I might have died inside.

Kael took advantage of the distraction, launching a fast, angled strike. The Devil Stone energy twisted like a whip toward them.

Dominic reacted instinctively, grabbing Lyra's arm to pull her out of the way. In the process, they collided again, this time almost chest to chest.

Lyra yelped, wind swirling around them, lifting small debris. Dominic panicked. "…S-Sorry! I'm just trying to save you!"

Lyra's cheeks flushed faintly, but she held herself steady. "…You could've almost crushed me, you know."

Dominic's face went even redder. "I said almost! That's totally different!"

Inside his soul, the Cosmic Stone pulsed harder, sensing the strong emotions of the moment. Gravity subtly warped around their bodies. The space between them felt… denser, like the universe itself was noticing.

Kael's Devil Stone energy suddenly spiked, forming massive tendrils aiming directly at the pair.

"Dominic! Now!" Lyra shouted, spinning into position.

Dominic focused, releasing a Gravity Pulse—a concentrated ripple of gravitational force. The tendrils slowed, twisted, and bent as if invisible hands grabbed them mid-flight.

Lyra followed with a Wind Cyclone, directing the redirected energy harmlessly into the night sky.

The two stepped back, catching their breath.

Dominic muttered: "…We make a pretty good team, don't we?"

Lyra's cheeks tinted faint pink, but she didn't answer immediately. Instead, she looked at him, wind swirling gently around them, almost like it was holding her hair back for him to see.

"Don't get cocky," she finally said, a hint of amusement in her voice.

Dominic chuckled nervously. "Who, me? Never."

They shared a brief glance—silent, tense, and charged with unspoken feelings.

They shared a brief glance—silent, tense, and charged with unspoken feelings.

Kael groaned from the other side of the yard, clearly frustrated. "I underestimated you two… this isn't over."

Dominic tilted his head toward Lyra. "Looks like we have another round tomorrow… or tonight, depending on his stamina."

Lyra smirked slightly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "Let him try. Just don't get too close to me next time."

Dominic muttered under his breath: Too late… universe, you're really testing me tonight.

The night settled again, but the air between Dominic and Lyra felt different. The accidental closeness, the gravity bending around them, and the adrenaline of fighting a Devil Stone user had created a tension that neither could ignore.

And somewhere deep inside his soul, the Cosmic Stone pulsed as if approving the moment.
