We reached at the station and i remained silent i know it was my first time being caught and held in a police station so i had to be calm and observe more, until i was asked to tell my side of the story in which no one listened and even asked in a good way or another before being dragged here, the police officer wrote what i said, and finally i was released after three hours of interrogation as police investigated and found what really happened with the proof of road surveillance cameras. When i got out i didn't see the man or the little boy whom i saved, i mumbled to myself, these days no one appreciates kindness nor says thanks for a good deed! Hence i took my phone which was turned off and finally switched it on, finding several missed calls and messages, i read a message from my stepmother, You better send the money or your precious sick mother will be in a bad shape when you get here! I gasped in shock, oh! no! Not this again!
I rushed to the roadside bus stop waiting for a bus that could take me back home, suddenly my phone rang and Mister Hume's voice came through the speaker, i guess you know the gravity of not attending office right? I tried to tell him what made me not to, he cutted me off with a firm and resolute voice, i don't want to hear any excuses as this is a third time and its either you came late or miss coming to work like what you did today! So you are fired Azra! You hear me? You are fired! The words echoed in my mind for several seconds till i realised what they meant after my mind being freezed for a splits of seconds, no mister Hume please hear me out! I shouted with a trembling voice not knowing where to start explaining when the call went dead! Tears came dripping into my eyes as I was glued to the spot i stood not knowing what to do! I knew how Mister Hume's temper could be and what he can do whenever he got pissed off and this time i knew i couldn't mend a way to calm him. On that moment a bus came and i had to enter immediately as i had an emergency situation to go to.
Mother! I shouted soon after i reached on the bedside of which my mother laid crouching the bedsheets gasping for air while my step mother and sister stood there without even doing anything, i asked them what happened and my step sister said, this is all your fault for not giving us money! just why can't you be more generous as we mostly stay with your sick mother? I closed my eyes tightly and said with a muffled sound, just tell me what happened to my mother! Why is she in this state? My step mother replied with a voice full of anger, can't you see she is having her usual breathing problems and we don't have money to buy even inhaler, i was shocked and asked them, didn't i send you money last week? What did you buy then,if you can't afford buying inhaler for my mother? I got so frustrated and scared as my mother's condition became much worse!
Call an ambulance! I shouted! But my step sister Violet said, can't she die already? Do you know how exhausting it is attending to her while we get nothing from our polite gestures and care that we give? Yeah! Why can't you just send the money to us came another voice from my step mother Vivian! My head was heavy from just hearing the nonsense they spout, but i didn't have time for their tantrums again my mother was my first priority right now. I scrambled for my phone inside my handbag but i realised how bad luck i was today as my phone had just went dead soon after start writing numbers to dial. I begged for my step sister's phone but she denied, i called Fredrick the gardener who was outside, through the open window and he came rushing inside, Please help me carry my mother outside the gate! Meanwhile i went to knock at my neighbour's gate and when someone came to open i asked for Jane who i was told she was inside, i went in and ask her for help, if she could lend me her car so that i could rush my sick mother to the hospital, luckily she agreed and gave me the car keys.
When i reached outside i found Fredrick with my mother who laid into his shoulder still gasping for air! We were able to make her sit inside the car and thanked Frederick for the help, i entered to the driver seat and started driving with a high speed! I saw my mother in the review mirror my eyes were full of worry! Too scared to admit how fragile my mother was , i tightened my hands on the steering wheel and kept driving! I knew there were a little hope for my mother but i held unto it, i recalled how my step mother and sister talked boldly wishing my mother to die! My eyes dropped tears that blurred my view. I thought to myself, was i cursed or what? I tried to pull myself together at least for a short brief of seconds, I was pulled out from my grievances into pure shock as i saw ahead of me an old lady with a stick walking while across the road and due to my speed driving i knew soon i will be in another disaster! Then my mind went wild full of panick as to what should i do in such short and quick situation i was into!
I thought if i pulled a gear to stop abruptly then the cars that came behind will come crushing unto the car and cause an accident that would crash my already bad conditioned mother, instead i chose to turn left without a warning so as to take whatever situation came ahead as i would rather face the problem and die but my mother has to live! I whispered to myself! Oh! Jesus Christ! Receive me in heaven! As soon as i decided to do that i bumped into a car in which was coming ahead! My head spinned, and saw blurry vision, and then heard faint voices crying, Oh! No! There is a car accident! Then everything went blank!
