Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 3 - THE WATCHERS

Sirens screamed through the city.

Police cars and emergency vehicles surrounded the destroyed street within minutes.

People stood behind barricades, whispering and pointing at the massive crater where the monster had fallen.

But Kael barely heard them.

His eyes were fixed on the sky.

The purple fracture was still there.

Still watching.

A sudden gust of wind swept through the street.

Then three black vehicles stopped near the crater.

They weren't police.

Men and women stepped out wearing dark coats marked with a strange silver emblem.

An eye surrounded by a circle.

One of them walked straight toward Kael.

He was tall, calm, and his gaze felt heavy.

"You're Kael Varyn," the man said.

It wasn't a question.

Kael nodded slowly.

"How do you know my name?"

The man studied Kael's glowing hand.

"The mark appeared… just like the records said."

"Records?" Kael asked.

The man sighed.

"For a thousand years we've waited for this."

He showed Kael the emblem on his coat.

"We are called the Watchers."

"Watchers of what?" Kael asked.

The man looked up at the fractured sky.

"Of the gates between realms."

Kael felt a chill run down his spine.

"The creature you saw tonight wasn't from this world," the Watcher continued.

"It came from another realm."

Kael shook his head.

"That's impossible."

"It was impossible," the man replied calmly.

"Until you awakened."

Kael stared at his hand again.

The symbol flickered faintly.

The Watcher's voice grew serious.

"You are the Realmwalker."

"The only person capable of opening gates between worlds."

Kael's heart pounded.

"And now," the man said quietly,

"Every realm will come looking for you."
