Chapter 17 - Chapter 17“The Heart of the Empire”

Morning sunlight spilled across the massive penthouse windows, turning the polished marble floors warm and golden. The city below buzzed with the distant noise of traffic, horns, and life moving forward.

Inside the penthouse, however, things were far less organized.

"JUNGKOOK!"

Jin's voice echoed from the kitchen.

A loud crash followed.

Namjoon sighed from the dining table without even looking up from the documents spread in front of him.

"That's the third plate today."

Yoongi sat beside him with a laptop open, calmly sipping coffee.

"Fourth."

Namjoon rubbed his forehead.

"Of course."

In the kitchen, Jungkook looked at the shattered plate on the floor with wide eyes.

"It slipped!"

Jin crossed his arms dramatically.

"You're banned from touching dishes."

Taehyung leaned against the doorframe laughing.

"The mighty mafia boss defeated by porcelain."

Jungkook glared.

"I could break you in half."

"You could try."

Jimin stepped between them, already laughing.

"Stop flirting and help clean."

Meanwhile, on the couch in the living room…

Jung Hoseok sat curled under a soft blanket, watching the chaos with sleepy eyes.

His hair stuck up messily, and the oversized hoodie he wore nearly swallowed him whole.

He had woken up early and wandered into the living room while everyone else was busy arguing.

For a few minutes, he simply watched.

His family.

Six terrifying men who ran the most powerful mafia organization in the country.

Arguing about broken dishes.

Hoseok smiled softly.

"…Silly."

But as he watched them, something inside his chest tightened slightly.

Because things had changed recently.

Ever since the wedding, more people in the organization had started coming directly to him.

At first it confused him.

He wasn't a fighter like Jungkook.

He wasn't a strategist like Namjoon.

He wasn't ruthless like Yoongi.

But somehow…

Everyone listened to him.

They trusted him.

And Hoseok still wasn't sure why.

Just then, Namjoon looked up from the table.

"Hobi?"

Hoseok blinked.

"Yes?"

Namjoon smiled gently.

"Come here."

Hoseok slipped off the couch and padded over, still wrapped in his blanket.

Namjoon automatically pulled him into his lap.

The movement was so natural none of the others even reacted.

Jungkook walked out of the kitchen carrying two mugs.

"Coffee for—"

He stopped.

"Did he just wake up?"

Hoseok nodded sleepily.

"Mhm."

Jungkook immediately changed direction and placed a mug of warm milk on the table instead.

"No coffee."

Hoseok pouted.

"I like coffee."

"You like chaos."

Taehyung dropped onto the couch beside them.

"Our baby is awake."

Jimin leaned over the back of Namjoon's chair and poked Hoseok's cheek.

"How do you feel today?"

Hoseok thought for a moment.

"…Big."

Everyone paused.

Yoongi raised an eyebrow.

"No regression?"

Hoseok shook his head.

"Nope."

Jin appeared from the kitchen and sighed dramatically.

"Well that's disappointing. I already prepared apple slices."

Hoseok gasped.

"Still want!"

Jin smirked.

"I knew it."

But before anyone could continue the teasing—

The elevator dinged.

All six mafia leaders immediately went silent.

Namjoon's posture straightened.

Yoongi closed his laptop halfway.

Jungkook's playful expression disappeared completely.

Taehyung's eyes sharpened.

Jimin turned toward the door calmly.

Jin crossed his arms.

The atmosphere shifted instantly.

Because only one kind of visitor came to the penthouse this early.

Mafia business.

The doors opened.

Three men stepped inside nervously.

Lower-ranked members of their organization.

One of them bowed slightly.

"Boss."

Namjoon nodded.

"What is it?"

The man hesitated.

"…We have a problem with the Busan branch."

Yoongi's voice turned cold.

"What kind of problem."

"Two crews are fighting over territory."

Jungkook scoffed.

"Again?"

Taehyung sighed.

"They never learn."

The man continued nervously.

"They refuse to negotiate."

Namjoon leaned back slightly, already thinking through possible solutions.

Before he could speak—

A quiet voice interrupted.

"…Did you try listening to them?"

Everyone turned.

Hoseok sat quietly on Namjoon's lap, blanket wrapped around his shoulders.

The three men looked confused.

"…Listening?"

Hoseok nodded.

"People fight when they feel ignored."

The room fell silent.

Yoongi leaned back slowly.

Jimin tilted his head.

Taehyung looked amused.

Namjoon studied Hoseok carefully.

"Explain."

Hoseok fiddled with the edge of the blanket.

"Well… if both sides want control… maybe it's not about territory."

The men looked puzzled.

"…Then what is it?"

Hoseok shrugged slightly.

"Maybe they just want respect."

Yoongi's eyes narrowed thoughtfully.

Jimin smiled softly.

Taehyung muttered under his breath.

"…He's doing it again."

Namjoon looked back at the men.

"Set up a meeting."

The men blinked.

"With… both crews?"

"Yes."

Hoseok added quietly,

"Ask them what they actually want."

The men nodded quickly.

"Yes boss."

They hurried out.

The elevator doors closed.

Silence filled the penthouse again.

Then Jungkook burst out laughing.

"You just solved a gang war in five seconds."

Hoseok blinked.

"…Did I?"

Yoongi shook his head in disbelief.

"You do that a lot."

Jimin smiled proudly.

"Hobi diplomacy."

Taehyung leaned back dramatically.

"Our mafia empire is being run by a dancer in a blanket."

Jin pointed.

"And it's working."

Namjoon looked down at Hoseok with quiet admiration.

"You see things differently than we do."

Hoseok tilted his head.

"Is that bad?"

Namjoon kissed the top of his head.

"No."

His voice softened.

"It's why you're the center of this family."

Hoseok blinked.

"…Center?"

Jungkook ruffled his hair.

"You keep us from killing everyone."

Yoongi added calmly,

"Most days."

Everyone laughed.

And Hoseok's chest warmed.

Maybe he didn't need to be the strongest.

Maybe he didn't need to be the scariest.

Because somehow…

He had become the heart of something much bigger.

Later That Night

The penthouse was quiet again.

Namjoon finished the last of the paperwork while Yoongi analyzed reports beside him.

Jimin and Taehyung were sprawled across the couch watching a movie.

Jin was in the kitchen preparing snacks.

Jungkook sat on the floor stretching after a workout.

And Hoseok…

Hoseok wandered sleepily into the living room again.

"…Joony."

Namjoon looked up immediately.

"Hm?"

Hoseok rubbed his eyes.

"…Feel small."

Everyone groaned.

Taehyung laughed.

"Here we go again."

Jimin opened his arms.

"Come here baby."

Hoseok shuffled over and climbed into the couch pile.

"…Little."

Jungkook wrapped a blanket around him.

"How little?"

Hoseok held up two fingers.

"…Two."

Yoongi sighed but gently placed a plush toy beside him anyway.

"Of course."

Jin returned with apple slices.

"I told you."

Hoseok smiled sleepily.

"…Thank you."

Namjoon watched the scene quietly.

Six dangerous men.

One tiny sunshine in the middle of them.

And somehow…

This strange, chaotic family had built the most powerful empire in the city.

Not through fear.

Not through violence.

But because at the center of it all—

Was someone who reminded them how to be human.

Namjoon whispered softly,

"You're our heart, Hobi."

Hoseok, already half asleep, mumbled softly.

"…Love you."

Six voices answered at once.

"Love you too."

And somewhere beyond the penthouse windows…

The mafia world continued turning.

But inside their home—

Everything was warm.

Safe.

And held together by the softest heart of them all.
