Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Progress

"Yeah."

Mikami Yuu nodded. "Kakashi and Obito come from ninja clans. Either they're insanely talented, or they never lack training resources. For kids from ordinary families like us, the best way to stand out is to take a different path and develop a specialty.

"Ninjas get injured all the time, and who knows when another Great Ninja War might break out. If you could learn solid medical ninjutsu and work at Konoha Hospital as a doctor—saving lives and healing people—wouldn't that be a pretty good thing too?"

Come to think of it, Mikami Yuu's feelings about Nohara Rin were… complicated.

On one hand, they were neighbors and had grown up together. You could call them childhood friends. Helping each other out was only natural.

But on the other hand, Mikami Yuu was just a civilian kid. He worried that if he got too close to Rin, Obito might end up holding a grudge—then someday, during something like the Nine-Tails incident, he'd decide to stab him in the back…

—A classic Uchiha when he went off the rails: once Obito turned crazy, he didn't care about anyone. He could kill even the Namikaze couple, and he even slapped a "warm pack" onto newborn Naruto. Of course he wouldn't care about a little classmate relationship.

So Mikami Yuu had been consciously keeping a not-too-close, not-too-far distance from Rin, Obito, and the others.

But now…

Things were different.

Even a small "cheat" was still a cheat.

The appearance of this galgame system gave Mikami Yuu the confidence to alter the plot. If he could get Rin to change her career path and become a medical ninja at Konoha Hospital, then maybe she wouldn't die in the Third Great Ninja War.

Beside him, Rin lowered her head and thought for a moment. "Medical ninjutsu… That does sound kind of nice. In a few days I'll ask Ooki-sensei if there's a way to learn that sort of thing."

"Mm… if you hear anything, tell me too."

Mikami Yuu said.

He was interested in medical ninjutsu as well.

Because in the Naruto world, that stuff was genuinely useful. From small things like stopping bleeding and setting bones, to big things like swapping eyeballs—unless you died on the spot, you could basically be pulled back. Sure, most people would never reach Tsunade's level, but even basic healing techniques meant one more life-saving trump card.

Still…

The most important thing right now was figuring out how the galgame system worked, and raising affection for the Three Basic Jutsu and Great Fireball as much as possible. Only then could he make bigger plans for the future.

[Selected target: Transformation Technique]

[Talk] [Practice]

[Transformation Technique: Good morning, Mikami-chan. Why are you here so early today? You look pretty lively—did you rest well last night?]

A: Of course I got up early so I could see Sister Transformation sooner. You look even prettier than yesterday too~

B: Pretty good. I sleep a full eight hours every day, straight through till morning. I never carry fatigue or stress into the next day—my doctor says I'm super healthy!

C: (Stay silent, just stare at her seriously.)

Mikami Yuu: "A."

[Transformation Technique: Oh my, oh my—Mikami-chan really knows how to talk. That's the best greeting I've heard all day.]

[Transformation Technique Affection +2]

"Nice, nice—good start. Now let's check in on 'Second Sister.'"

[Selected target: Clone Technique]

[Clone Technique: What, flattering big sis wasn't enough, so now you're here to chat me up too? What a fickle man—trying to keep multiple irons in the fire. For big sis's sake, I won't argue with you this time. Watch yourself.]

Mikami Yuu: "?"

Girl… you're a jutsu. Do you really need this much drama? Does it ever end…

I seriously want to deck you a couple times.

"Alright, let's try this…"

"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"

As Mikami Yuu formed seals, gathered chakra into his throat, and spat it out, a basketball-sized fireball shot forward, rolling heat waves through the air. The temperature in a small surrounding area quietly rose a few degrees.

"…Not bad."

Mikami Yuu exhaled the last bit of heat, released the hand seals, and nodded in satisfaction.

It had been almost ten days since he'd watched Obito demonstrate Great Fireball.

And in those ten days…

Mikami Yuu had been grinding this galgame nonstop.

Morning greetings, goodnights before bed, more than three hours a day of practice—cycling through each technique until he was completely exhausted. Even toward the "Clone Technique" that barely acknowledged him, he kept greeting it like a shameless simp…

Hard work paid off.

That relentless effort let Mikami Yuu gradually figure out how the system operated:

First: the galgame system's affection gains reset daily. Within the same day, you could do multiple rounds of talking and practice, but each category only granted affection once. Talking usually gave 1–2 points; practice gave 2–4 points.

Of course…

With certain overly dramatic jutsu, it could be less than that.

For example: Clone Technique.

As for [Give Gift], Mikami Yuu still hadn't figured it out. He had no idea what you were even supposed to "give" a jutsu.

Second: only techniques that required chakra to cast could be recognized as romanceable targets. Skills that relied purely on physical strength—like shuriken throwing, straight punches, and kicks—didn't count.

Techniques like "Shuriken Manipulation" or "Shuriken Shadow Clone Jutsu" probably would count, but the Academy didn't teach them, and Mikami Yuu couldn't do them anyway.

Third: affection had five tiers. The first three were 0 — Stranger, 25 — Friendly, and 50 — Intimate. Each time you reached a tier, you got a reward, and once you hit Intimate or above, [Give Gift] would unlock.

And how did he know all that?

Because—

[Current romanceable targets]

Transformation Technique (Affection: 58/100 — Intimate, Gift option unlocked)

(Rewards obtained at 2 tiers: Constitution +2; Trait: Perfect Form and Spirit — Your transformations are flawless and lifelike, with realistic details. You can partially rewrite your own form; non-sensory-type ninja are almost unable to see through it.)

Clone Technique (Affection: 24/100 — Stranger)

Substitution Technique (Affection: 35/100 — Friendly)

(Rewards obtained at 1 tier: Constitution +1; Trait: Seal-less Instant Cast — Your Substitution Technique requires no deliberate setup. Within 5 meters, with a single thought, you can complete a substitution with your medium in 0.2 seconds.)

Great Fireball Jutsu (Affection: 18/100 — Stranger)

That's right.

Mikami Yuu had now raised two of the Three Basic Jutsu past Friendly, and Transformation Technique had gone the smoothest—already reaching Intimate.

That brought him two special rewards—

The Transformation Technique reward was easy to understand: it made his transformations more realistic and longer-lasting.

In theory, aside from the Byakugan, the Sharingan, and chakra-sensing Inuzuka or Aburame clan members, most people would have a hard time spotting his flaws.

As for the Substitution Technique reward…

That one was really worth talking about.
