Chapter 414: The Marvel World

The Chitauri army numbers in the hundreds of thousands. The second, mysterious army numbers similarly in the hundreds of thousands.
This mysterious army includes a number of genuinely powerful individuals, and is equipped with advanced, high-yield weaponry!]

[Quest 3: Minimize civilian casualties in the Marvel world. Fewer than 1,000,000 deaths: reward 55,000 Points. Fewer than 5,000,000 deaths: reward 35,000 Points. Fewer than 12,000,000 deaths: reward 10,000 Points!
Participants: 3
Time limit: 72 hours
Reward: as stated above]
This group quest broke down into three sub-objectives: the first called for wiping out the alien forces invading Marvel's Earth; the second, shutting down the spatial jump gateways; the third, minimizing civilian casualties as much as possible.
Combined, the three sub-quests could pay out as much as 120,000 Points at the top end — or, at minimum, still a solid 75,000.
Whether the final total actually broke past the 100,000 mark would come down entirely to how well Quest 3 played out — specifically, whether they could keep the death toll under a million.
What genuinely piqued Ryū's curiosity, though, was this second, mysterious "army." What exactly was it?
Going off the name "Chitauri" alone, this was clearly Avengers 1's plot playing out. But as far as Ryū remembered, the Avengers' opposition in that movie was just Loki and the Chitauri — no second army involved at all.
Which meant this whole quest had probably only triggered because of that second, unexplained force intervening.
The Chitauri, as Ryū recalled them, were genuinely weak sauce — practically fodder, especially measured against the chat group's own Tier 1 roster.
Under normal circumstances, a quest like this should've been well within reach of a Tier 2 member. Maybe even Tier 3, honestly.
Which meant the whole reason this had gotten flagged as Tier 1 difficulty had to come down entirely to this mysterious second army.
Ryū opened the link included in the quest and raised an eyebrow slightly, murmuring to himself. "Oh-ho? After all those weak-sauce rule-breaking reincarnators we've dealt with, finally got ourselves a genuinely serious one?"
Sure enough, the link laid out exactly where this second army had come from — and, more specifically, exactly who was leading it.
A transmigrator, as it turned out — one who'd been living in the Marvel world for over a thousand years now. In that thousand-plus years, he'd leveraged whatever transmigrator cheat ability he'd started with to claw his way up into one of the genuine cosmic powers of the universe.
And this particular character's track record was thoroughly, unambiguously villainous — no wonder the Dimensional Chat Group had flagged him as a rule-breaking reincarnator.
Even setting aside his rule-breaking status entirely, the simple act of teaming up with the Chitauri to invade Earth had already made him an enemy of two of the group's own members — which, functionally, made him an enemy of the entire Dimensional Chat Group.
Ryū's attention shifted back to the chat itself. Tatsumaki's screenshot had already gotten everyone talking about the new quest.
Hero for Fun: Taking part in a group quest gets you a big chunk of Points, right? With a big enough haul, could I finally go on a proper ten-day-and-night grinding spree in the Arena?
Kaguya-sama: Probably, yeah? Sensei Saitama, are you thinking of joining this one?
Hero for Fun: Hmm... I'm a little interested, actually. No wait — scratch that, I'm very interested.
Hero for Fun: Heavy hitters from another world, huh. Just thinking about it gets my blood pumping.
I'm Rolling In It: Sure, mooching off group quests is restricted now, but I'm technically from the Marvel world — I should still be able to get in on this one somehow, right?
RawrSoFierce: Not entirely sure, honestly... probably? Maybe?
The Ancient One: The Chitauri — this is that "Avengers 1" plot Admin-sama mentioned in the chat once before, right?
The Ancient One: That giant purple potato's never exactly been the type to leave well enough alone, has he.
Eternally Seventeen: Looks like there's real demand to get in on this one!
Eternally Seventeen: Admin-sama, are we settling participants by dice roll again this time?
RawrSoFierce: Pretty much have to, honestly — there's no shortage of Tier 1 members in this group these days.
RawrSoFierce: @Everyone, any Tier 1 member interested in joining this quest, roll the dice to enter. Three slots only — whoever pulls the three highest numbers gets in.
Eternally Seventeen: Ahahaha, me first! Got an unprecedented 30 Points off today's sign-in, no less — today's luck is clearly on my side.
Eternally Seventeen: [Dice] Rolled a 3... life isn't worth living. Shutting myself away in seclusion, effective immediately.
Street-Corner Illustrator: Wait, huh? Why did my auspicious-day method fail this time?
Kaguya-sama: Because the person using it was Yukari-nee, obviously!
Edward Newgate: [Dice] Rolled a 2? Gurararara, even lower than Yukari-senpai's roll, somehow.
Eternally Seventeen: Eh? Doesn't that mean I might actually still have a shot, however slim?
My True Form Is Cola: Didn't you just say you were shutting yourself away in seclusion, Yukari-senpai?
Eternally Seventeen: Total misunderstanding on your part, Umaru. Purely your imagination.
Terrible Tornado: [Dice] Rolled a 6. Locked in, lovely...
RawrSoFierce: [Dice] Rolled a 5. Not the best luck out there, but close enough.
WolfKingOfQingQingGrasslands: [Dice] Rolled a 4. This king's luck doesn't seem too great today, honestly.
Eternally Seventeen: ...Shutting myself away!! One full hour of seclusion, starting now!!
RawrSoFierce: I'll bet you're back chatting again within a few minutes.
The Ancient One: I don't actually need to roll — I'm already based in the Marvel world myself.
Hero for Fun: [Dice] Rolled a 5! Exact same number as Admin-sama's roll — doesn't that mean I've still got a shot too?
Eternally Seventeen: Damn it... jealousy's tearing me apart all over again.
RawrSoFierce: Weren't you shutting yourself away in seclusion just now...
