Chapter 42 - 42

Morning light slowly filled the ICU room.

The machines around Jay continued their soft beeping.

The nurse checked her vitals quietly.

Everything looked stable.

Outside the ICU…

Keifer was still sitting in the same chair.

His eyes were tired.

Red.

But still fixed on the glass window.

Ella and the others were nearby.

Too exhausted to even speak.

Then suddenly—

Inside the ICU…

Jay's fingers moved slightly.

The nurse noticed immediately.

"Doctor!"

The doctor rushed in.

Jay's eyelids slowly fluttered.

Her breathing changed.

And finally…

She opened her eyes.

The light made her blink weakly.

Everything looked blurry.

The machines.

The ceiling.

The doctor leaning over her.

"Jay… can you hear me?"

Jay tried to focus.

Her throat felt dry.

Her body felt heavy.

The doctor gently asked,

"How are you feeling?"

Jay didn't answer.

Her eyes slowly moved around the room.

Searching.

Looking for someone.

The doctor asked again softly,

"Jay?"

Her lips moved weakly.

The voice that came out was barely a whisper.

"Keifer…"

The doctor smiled slightly.

"You want to see him?"

Jay nodded faintly.

Outside the ICU…

The doctor opened the door.

Everyone immediately stood up.

Ella rushed forward.

"Doctor?"

The doctor smiled.

"She woke up."

Freya gasped.

Grace covered her mouth with relief.

Rakki almost shouted.

But before anyone could say anything else…

The doctor added,

"The first thing she asked for…"

He looked toward Keifer.

"Was you."

Keifer froze.

His heart skipped.

For a moment he couldn't move.

Then the doctor stepped aside.

"You can go in."

Keifer slowly walked inside the ICU.

His legs felt weak.

When he reached the bed…

He saw her.

Jay looked pale.

Weak.

Bandages around her body.

But her eyes were open.

Looking at him.

The moment she saw him clearly…

A tiny smile appeared on her face.

Her voice came out soft.

"I knew…"

"You would be here."

Keifer felt his chest tighten.

His eyes filled with tears again.

He moved closer to the bed.

Holding her hand carefully.

Like she was the most fragile thing in the world.

"I'm here."

Jay looked at him quietly for a moment.

Then she whispered softly,

"You didn't marry her… right?"

Keifer let out a small breath.

A broken laugh escaping him.

"No."

Jay relaxed slightly.

Her eyes slowly closing again from exhaustion.

And Keifer stayed right there.

Still holding her hand.

Like he never planned to let go again. 💙
