Chapter 235 - Chapter 235: Trial

Just as Johnson was undergoing treatment, the International Military Tribunal was conducting the final trial for the leaders of HYDRA.

"Alexander Pierce, Gideon Malick, Strucker, Zola, Whitehall, Sunil Bakshi."

A long list of HYDRA leaders' names was read out. These people were spread all over the World, coming from various countries—the United States, Bavaria, Germany. People discovered that the influence of HYDRA had never diminished; it had just gone underground.

After reading the names, the judges on the tribunal looked at each other.

"You are to be held responsible for the war in Afghanistan, the five Middle East wars, the Falklands War, the Grenada War..."

Then the prosecutor read out a long list of wars, almost every war that had occurred in the World since World War II.

Although World War I was called "the war to end all wars," in reality, an even more terrifying World War II occurred after it.

And since World War II, dozens of wars involving major powers have occurred in the World, and if one were to count the coups and civil wars of certain small countries, the number would surely exceed three digits.

Many of these wars remain highly controversial to this day; no matter how much countries like the United States propagate them, they were unjust.

If there were no scapegoat, the impact of these wars and decades of propaganda would still be significant among various nations. Even if it were suppressed for a certain period, it would be dug up by people with ulterior motives at the next special juncture.

And now, as it happens, HYDRA has run right into it and been completely captured.

The key is that many of these wars were indeed related to them, so making them carry the blame isn't too difficult.

"You bear primary responsibility for all the above wars and are responsible for the men, women, children, fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters who died in these wars."

"The International Military Tribunal's verdict for you is: Death!"

Hearing this verdict, the members of HYDRA sitting there all laughed. It wasn't a smug laugh, but a kind of hollow laughter.

To be honest, among so many wars, it really wasn't the case that every single one was instigated by HYDRA behind the scenes.

But it was clear that the judges trying them, and the major powers behind them, had reached a consensus: this must be an ironclad case, and they would take the fall for everything.

One must know that even during the sentencing of the Class-A war criminals of World War II, some judges voted against the death penalty, but this time, it was definitely a unanimous vote.

Yet, what could they do? Nothing.

The war crimes trials of World War II took two years to fully conclude, but today, this trial finished sentencing the main targets in just a few months.

However, the written records still needed to be organized in detail, and various countries would continue to negotiate how to distribute these scapegoats—after all, while the big ones were finished, there were still many small ones left.

And these members of HYDRA were no longer just simple Class-A war criminals; the countries had prepared a special category for them: HYDRA war criminals.

Except for Zola, the others would be executed by hanging—which is seen as the most humiliating form of execution in the West. In the past, noble executions were usually by beheading; only commoners were hanged.

The trial ended, and the group was escorted to the door. The cameras of the reporters flashed, dazzling them. A group of former HYDRA members wearing gp armor were waiting by the street to escort them. These Riflemen looked imposing—what a pity that they were also prisoners.

Seeing this scene, several HYDRA members thought to themselves: If only they were holding scepters instead of shackles at this moment.

After the daze, Whitehall said to the camera: "You think you've won? Cut off one head, and two more will grow back."

In front of the screen, Harry knew this was directed at him. To be honest, if he had said it in Chinese, this passage would have really caused some negative impact.

After all, a World-class war criminal calling out to someone makes it hard for conspiracy theorists not to overthink.

But in English, there is no distinction between "you" (singular) and "you" (plural), so countries could promote this as a Terrorist calling out to the World.

Harry commented: "HYDRA are all crazy guys. Mr. Johnson obviously knew this too, which is why he performed those experiments on himself. To be honest, that still requires a lot of courage."

Until the very last moment, they would not repent for their actions; they only hated that they were not the ones who won.

Harry didn't need them to repent either; he only needed to make the best use of them and let the World move in the direction he hoped for.

As for this Mr. Johnson, what he hated was his inability to save his wife and daughter, which drove him crazy. For decades, he had focused on finding Whitehall and killing him personally to avenge his family.

Hearing so much, Skye's feelings were even more complicated. Looking at her old father slowly opening his eyes in the pod, she didn't know what to say for a moment.

"Mr. Johnson, you should be able to think calmly now, right?" Harry said.

A calmed-down Johnson could be considered a highly educated person. With the stimulants that made him violent removed, only sadness remained in his heart, but fortunately, his daughter was still here.

Johnson looked at Skye with teary eyes, stumbled out of the medical pod, and hugged Skye. The latter did not resist, only smiling somewhat complicatedly.

Now it looked a bit like a father-daughter reunion.

After a brief moment of warmth, Harry clapped his hands to interrupt them:

"Mr. Johnson, you see, no matter how you view Osborn, your daughter doesn't think I'm a bad person. I have also fulfilled my promise to let you see your daughter. Now, can we sit down and talk?"

A madman wouldn't back down; even if he judged himself to be at a disadvantage in his heart, he would still recklessly take rash actions.

The calmed-down Johnson was no longer like before, ready to fight on sight; now he knew how to weigh the pros and cons.

"I was impulsive before. My brain was under the influence of those drugs..." Johnson said somewhat reservedly, circling his hand around his head as he spoke.

"A bit confused, understandable. Now let's have a proper talk."

"Okay, okay. What part do you want to know about?"

Then, under Johnson's surprised gaze, Harry took out the obelisk—

"Let's start with this thing."

Harry was wearing a pair of thick rubber gloves, a detail Johnson caught.

"Uh—this, it seems Mr. Osborn already knows this thing is a very powerful weapon."

Hearing this answer, Harry smiled.

Although Johnson was no longer crazy, his vigilance against the Oscorp hadn't diminished in the slightest. The difference was that before, he would start fighting on sight, but now he knew how to play tricks.

It's just that Harry didn't intend to take it slow with him.

"Sir, I know about the terrigen crystal inside, and I also know about the Kree and the Inhumans."

Harry said while placing the obelisk on the table, meeting Johnson's somewhat bewildered eyes.

"I hope we can be frank with each other. For the sake of your daughter and this medical facility—if I wanted to use you for any experiments, Daisy would already be in a cage."

Johnson looked at his daughter, and after receiving a confirming look from her, he took a deep breath.

"Alright, but this matter involves a lot. I need some time."
