Chapter 20

The Inevitability of Death

Bruce and Mr. Chicken helplessly pulled at the sturdy bars of the cage that trapped them. "It's no use, the bars are too strong." Bruce explained miserably. Just as Mr. Chicken and Bruce gave up and sat down on the hard, dirty ground. "Wait, before you give up, the floor is made out of dirt, we can dig ourselves out." Mr. Chicken thought.

"That's a good idea, let's do that." Bruce agreed. Just as Bruce was about to get his hands dirty, the onion king walked around one the corner of one of the buildings that could be seen from the center park where Bruce and Mr. Chicken were trapped. "Good job my onions, you managed to actually capture the little twerps." The onion king's booming voice was followed by the high pitch chittering of the onions that he commanded. The onion king now stood ten meters away from the small cage that encompassed Bruce and Mr. Chicken. "Hahahaha, killing you will be fun!" The onion king stated confidently in between his crunching of onion and cheese chips. "Why do you want to kill us?" Bruce asked as a diversion so Mr. Chicken could dig them out while the king was talking.

The onion king spoke, "It all started back when me and my brother, Please Don't Hurt Me or PDHM, we were just little onions like my minions here," All the onions chittered happily, "We lived in a small onion village known as, "The Bag." It was a happy village; everyone was happy and friendly. Me and my brother would get bored in such a small area so sometimes we would go exploring outside of The Bag for fun. Our parents would always scold us afterwards; telling us how dangerous it is outside of the bag, but we never listened to them. One day, our ignorance cost us. Me and PDHM ventured out of the bag for the fifth time that week. We strolled all the way to the cutting boards. I was looking up at the vast expanse of the flat surface, when I heard my brother calling my name. But when I looked back, I saw a human grab my brother, the cutting board that I was looking at and a knife. The human cut my brother in half and added him into some foul mixture. Since then, I have been on really strong onion drugs that help me to grow as strong as I am now. As soon as I was the size of a human and bigger, I struck down the bystanders as revenge for killing so many of my kin. Ever since then I have been slaughtering people and growing bigger and bigger. When I was about thirty years old, the humans had enough of me killing their puny kind, so they trapped me in the very cage that you are in now. I sat there for an entire year, slowly getting bigger and stronger, until the god of bananas offered me a deal. If I helped him to kill everyone in the world, he would break me out. My goal was to kill all the humans anyways, so I excepted the deal. As soon the god broke me put of the prison, he gave me the power to make it rain onions from the sky. After a while, I and the banana god were the only being left in existence. Then you little twerps came along and ruined my solitary paradise!"

"That was the longest story I have ever heard." Bruce replied insensitively to the onion king's crying. "Clearly you have never read a book!" The onion king exclaimed through his tears. "Well maybe I haven't, they are too hard for me." Bruce responded in a dumb voice. Suddenly, Bruce heard Mr. Chicken yell, "It's ready!" Bruce looked over to where Mr. Chicken was digging a way out, and he saw a circular hole, around 1 meter in diameter, hole. Bruce couldn't see the bottom, but he trusted Mr. Chicken enough to jump down without looking.

While Bruce was falling, he couldn't see anything but the howl of the onion king and the whooshing of wind in his ear. Bruce could feel the speed of his fall in his stomach, like he was on a rollercoaster. Bruce opened his previously shut eyes to see the floor coming towards him fast. Bruce couldn't do anything to slow his fall so he just flailed his arms around and hoped for the best. Bruce closed his eyes before being swallowed by complete darkness and falling to the floor below him.
