Chapter 3 - Savior

I've wandered for some days now trying to find something that will make me stronger. Something like a challenge, or a place where I can fight strong enemies.

Walking through the forest of a nearby town, I try to find some strong beasts to fight. I start to follow some bear tracks I found, when I hear a noise. It sounds like a battle is happening nearby. It's loud enough to catch my interest so I quietly run to where I hear the commotion.5

Once I make it to a safe vantage point, I see 3 weird looking people fighting a bunch of people in black clothing. Even from here I could tell that the people in black cloaks were up to no good. Behind the cloaked figures, it looked like there had been some type of ritual set up that the 3 weirdos messed up. It seemed like an even fight so I decided to leave it alone. Until, the whole scene faded to red in my mind, when I set my eyes upon one small dead child in the center of the ritual set up.

Fueled with rage, I channeled a supernova and blasted it at the cloaked people. Only screams could be heard, as 7 of them were obliterated when my shooting star went boom. The 3 weirdos look surprised at the sudden attack I unleashed, and even more surprised when they saw fly by them towards the enemy.

I used star's radiance and started dispatching these dark cloaked bastards, one by one. Although I really should have made a plan for fighting multiple opponents, I've taken so many down but there are so many more to go. I'm starting to get tired, when one of my opponents turns to stone, and another takes a hit on the head from a weird looking floating doll.

I turn around and realize those 3 weirdos are helping me. For some reason knowing their helping me makes all these enemies seem weaker. Nonetheless, we start dispatching the enemies one by one until they are all defeated. I'm so tired that I wanna take a nap, but I settle for resting under a shady tree.

I sit there in silence until I'm interrupted by the weirdos. The dude with the green hair says "Hello my name is Freed, from The Thunder God Tribe of the Fairytail Guild. May I know who you are." He says with a smile and bow.

The formal way he talks makes me feel like a noble, so with red cheeks meekly say "uuumm hi my name is Moss."

"It's a pleasure Moss." He says as he puts his hand out.

I quickly shake his hand, trying not to seem nervous. However, my shaking hand was a dead giveaway.

"The pleasure is all mine" I squeak out. Internally cursing myself for forgetting my old social skills, but that's what living in the woods and only talking to a snake for 7 years will do to you.

"Right" Freed said as he noticed my nervousness. "We are very thankful for your help in this matter. Without you, we might not have gotten out of here unscathed."

Looking away I said "it's no problem." After a small pause I gained a serious look "I just couldn't let them slide after I saw what they did."

They all smiled at me which kind of freaked me out. Then freed spoke "that's an admirable mindset you have" caught off guard by the compliment. My cheeks turned red and I stayed silent.

The silence was broken when the big guy with the mask spoke up "so what guild are you from Moss?"

I shot them a confused look "what's a guild?"

They all looked at me in utter bewilderment, until the girl with glasses said "you don't know what a guild is, and you're still that strong."

Freed gave me a look of concern, "you really don't know?"

I shrunk in on myself flushed with embarrassment. "Well I've lived in the woods for a long time training with my master, so there is a lot I don't know about, I'm sorry."

They all nervously blurts out "it's okay"

Freed quickly reassures me "I'm sorry for misunderstanding Moss, we were just surprised that a strong mage like you isn't a part of a guild."

Raising an eyebrow in intrigue I say "there are strong mages in these guilds?"

With a burst of confidence, freed upped his nose and said "Yes, most strong wizards belong to guilds, and our Fairytail Guild just so happens to be the strongest one in the whole land of Fiore."

I felt a smirk form on my face as I thought about these guilds. Freed was more than happy to explain when I asked, he even went into detail about how quests work and the guild ranking system. I found myself getting excited, but before my excitement could boil over, Freed spoke.

"Say Moss, would you like to join Fairytail perhaps?"

I stiffened, my whole body radiating uncertainty. "I couldn't possibly join one of the strongest guilds in Fiore, just like that, right?

All three of them took a quick look at each other and then back at me before saying "yup" in unison.

My brain went into overload as I stuttered "but…but…..no test…..I mean….what…huh." After my spiral my face gained a look of sadness. "Why would you want someone like me?"

Freed aimed a confident gaze at me and said "Fairytail is more than just a guild, it's a family, you seem like a good kid with good morals. And most of all, after that fight I can see you have the heart of a Fairytail mage in you."

After Freed's big proclamation the glasses girls let out a small chuckle and said "you sound like the old fart."

"SHUT UP!" Freed yelled as a tick mark could be seen lining his forehead.

The commotion took the three's attention. While I tried to hide my embarrassed face. Once my self doubt died down I started to realize this is exactly what I've been looking for. Getting stronger is easily within arms reach, if I'm surrounded by some of the strongest mages in all of Fiore.

This train of thought made him stare into space with a smile on his face. Noticing this, the three Fairytail mages smiled to themselves.

Reeling myself back into reality, I said "Hey Freed about your offer, you think I could really make it in Fairytail?" him seeing a look of longing on my face says "Without a doubt, your perfect Fairytail material."

The response left me assured, embarrassed, but assured. So without a second thought I smiled with rosy red cheeks and bowed to them. "Thanks for welcoming me to your family."

They all looked at each other joyfully. Until the girl with glasses beckoned me to raise my head with a gesture. Once I tilted up straight she said "Come on Moss we'll show you your new home, keep up if you can." Just like that they ran away. With a joyful smile I got in a running stance and channeled stars radiance as I bolted after them.
