Chapter 2 - THE VOICE IN THE VOID

Rayan opened his eyes, but the world around him had changed.

He was no longer in the cold alley. No rain. No garbage. No pain.

He stood in an endless white void. Empty. Silent. Waiting.

He looked down at his hands. They were clean. No cuts. No blood. He touched his chest—the wound from the fall was gone. He was... whole.

"Am I dead?" he whispered.

His voice echoed strangely, as if the void itself was repeating his words.

Then, the voice returned.

"No, Rayan. You are not dead."

It came from everywhere and nowhere at once. Deep. Ancient. It vibrated in his bones.

Rayan turned around, searching for the source. Nothing. Only white.

"Where am I?" he asked, his voice shaking.

"You are in the space between. Between life and death. Between nothing and something."

A figure began to form in front of him. At first, it was just light—bright, blinding. Then it took shape. A man? A woman? A creature? He couldn't tell. The face kept shifting, changing, like smoke in the wind.

Rayan stepped back. "What are you?"

"I am what you have always needed, Rayan. I am the answer to the question you asked the night you ran away."

The night he ran away. The night he sat by the window and looked at the moon.

He remembered his whisper: "Why was I born?"

"You... you heard me?" Rayan's eyes widened.

"I always heard you, Rayan. Every tear you swallowed. Every cry you silenced. Every night you stared at the moon and asked why. I heard it all."

The figure moved closer. Rayan wanted to run, but his feet wouldn't move.

"You were born with nothing, Rayan. No family. No love. No value. The world threw you away like garbage."

Rayan's jaw tightened. The words cut deep because they were true.

"But I saw something in you. Something rare."

"What?" Rayan's voice was barely a whisper.

"You never stopped fighting. Even when you had nothing, you fought. Even when you knew the world didn't care, you got up every morning. That fire, Rayan... that fire is precious."

A glowing screen appeared in front of Rayan. Blue light. Strange symbols. Words he could read but didn't understand.

FATE SYSTEM INITIALIZING...

HOST: Rayan

STATUS: WORTHLESS (LEVEL 0)

POTENTIAL: INFINITE

Rayan stared at the screen. "What... what is this?"

"This is your second chance, Rayan. This is the Fate System. It will give you what the world never did: power. Purpose. A reason to live."

The figure raised a hand. Two options appeared on the screen:

[ ACCEPT YOUR FATE ]

[ REFUSE AND RETURN TO NOTHING ]

Rayan's heart pounded. "If I refuse... I die?"

"You return to the alley. You return to your pain. You return to nothing. And this time, no one will save you."

Rayan looked at the screen. His whole life flashed before his eyes. The orphanage. The cold. The hunger. The moment the rich woman called him "dangerous." The night he ran away. The alley where he collapsed.

He had nothing. He was nothing.

But this... this voice... this system... it was offering him something.

"What's the price?" Rayan asked, his voice hard. "Nothing is free."

The figure was silent for a moment. Then:

"The price, Rayan, is simple. You must live for something greater than yourself. You must become someone worth remembering. You must prove that a child born with a cry can die with a legacy."

Rayan stared at the screen.

[ ACCEPT YOUR FATE ]

[ REFUSE AND RETURN TO NOTHING ]

He thought about the moon. The only thing that ever looked back at him.

He thought about his cry. The first sound he ever made.

He thought about silence. The silence he would die in if he refused.

His hand reached out. Shaking. Uncertain.

But determined.

He touched the screen.

[ ACCEPT YOUR FATE ]

---

The world exploded into light.

Rayan screamed as information flooded his mind. Battles. Powers. Monsters. Worlds. A thousand lives flashed before his eyes. A thousand deaths. A thousand possibilities.

When it stopped, he was on his knees, gasping.

The figure stood over him.

"Welcome to your new life, Rayan. The Fate System is now yours."

Rayan looked up. "What... what do I do now?"

The figure smiled—a strange, sad smile.

"Now, you wake up. And your real journey begins."

The white void shattered like glass.

---

Rayan opened his eyes.

He was back in the alley. The rain had stopped. The sun was rising.

But something was different.

He looked at his hand. A faint blue glow pulsed under his skin. And in his mind, a voice—not the ancient one, but a new voice. Cold. Mechanical.

[ SYSTEM ONLINE ]

[ STATUS: HOST RAYAN ]

[ LEVEL: 0 ]

[ ABILITY: NONE ]

[ QUEST AVAILABLE: SURVIVE THE FIRST DAY ]

[ ACCEPT? ]

Rayan stared at the glowing text in front of his eyes.

He wasn't dreaming. He wasn't dead.

He was... reborn.

He stood up slowly, his body feeling stronger than before. The pain was gone. The hunger was gone. For the first time in his life, he felt... alive.

He looked at the rising sun.

"Whoever you are," he whispered, "thank you."

And for the first time since he was five years old, Rayan smiled.

It was small. Weak. Uncertain.

But it was real.

[ QUEST ACCEPTED: SURVIVE THE FIRST DAY ]

[ REWARD: 100 EXP + BASIC SKILL ]

[ FAILURE: DEATH ]

Rayan's smile faded.

Death? If he failed?

He took a deep breath and looked around the alley. The world hadn't changed. It was still cruel. Still cold. Still dangerous.

But he had changed.

And that made all the difference.
